"Old cars and bikes roar along its beautifully aging bumpy roads, and decadent XX century architectural gems, exhibiting their patina and their usual lack of lacquer in a way you can’t see elsewhere. Its the battle of certain individuals & machines against consumerism and programmed obsolescence… and they seem to be winning!"

Carlos Checa fastest in final session at Moscow Raceway

    from http://www.twowheelsblog.com

In the final test session at Moscow Raceway ahead of this weekend’s first ever World Superbike Russian round, Carlos Checa once again headed the top of the timesheets after leading this morning session.
Lap times were considerably lower with the riders now knowing the new track and the teams beginning to refine their set-ups and the gaps between riders remained well contained.
This morning Checa posted a best lap of 1.37.189, while this afternoon he topped the charts with a 1.35.891 and like this morning he was followed by BMW’s Leon Haslam who was still a little less than two tenths adrift.
Tom Sykes moved up to third and Marco Melandri also jumped up to take fourth, while Hiroshi Aoyama who suprised everyone with his third this morning, dropped back 15 positions and finished in a lowly 18th.
Standings leader Max Biaggi also improved to take 5th and he was half a second off pace and Chaz Davies also made a big improvement to finish 6th after this morning’s 11th spot.
Following Davies was Althea Ducati’s Davide Giugliano in 7th who recovered from his crash this morning as did Aprilia’s Eugene Laverty, who jumped into the top ten to take 8th, Niccolò Canepa was another rider that crashed this morning moved into 9th. Sylvain Guintoli who was suspended from this morning’s test after getting a red card warning (the don’t give them in races and they give them tests?) closed out the top ten.

Ducati officially confirms Andrea Dovizioso for two seasons

    from http://www.twowheelsblog.com/

As highly anticipated and ahead of this weekend’s MotoGP round at Brno, Ducati has officially confirmed thatAndrea Dovizioso will be wearing red for the 2013 and 2014 seasons.
The Italian admitted at the start of the season -after being dropped by Repsol Honda who cut back to only two machines- that he switched to Yamaha’s satellite team because because he wanted a factory ride in 2013, and Dovizioso has admirably shone with the M1, and has been on the podium five times so and giving the French based team their best results ever, but with his more popular fellow countryman deciding to quit Ducati and return to Yamaha, it stopped his plans cold, and he decided to accept Ducati’s two-year deal despite being initially having made noises to the contrary (but Audi’s future involvement also helped change his mind). Dovizioso is currently fourth in the standings.

Borgo Panigale (Bologna) 22 August 2012 – Ducati and Andrea Dovizioso have reached an agreement that will see the Italian wearing the colours of the Ducati Team in 2013 and 2014.
Andrea Dovizioso, who currently sits in fourth place overall in the MotoGP championship standings, will join Nicky Hayden on the team. The pair will face next season together, working on development of the Desmosedici and the MotoGP project for the championship in which Ducati has played an important role since 2003.
“The agreement reached with Andrea Dovizioso confirms the company’s primary interest in racing, which is an active and strategic part of Ducati’s DNA and heritage,” said President Gabriele Del Torchio. “It is with great pleasure that I welcome Andrea, as we marshal our best efforts in confronting the MotoGP World Championship. Along with Nicky Hayden, with whom we have renewed a working agreement, we are confident that we will be able to proceed with our development program, to compete, and to obtain the results and rewards that will repay our efforts and the faith that our partners, sponsors and fans have never failed to demonstrate.”“Andrea’s technical sensibility and test-riding abilities are of great value, as are his talent and determination,” added Filippo Preziosi, General Manager of Ducati Corse. “The knowledge that we will have him on our team and be able to count on his collaboration serves as an additional incentive to continue with the growth and development of our MotoGP project. I’m pleased that he has chosen to be a part of our team. He is aware of the work to be done, and he approaches it with enthusiasm and confidence, which are fundamental requirements for achieving success and for competing in this challenging championship.”
