F1 HISTORY ON THE BIG SCREEN: RON HOWARD’S RUSH

    Norton Based Bobber “DoMaCo” Pictures

    Norton Based Bobber DoMaCo Pictures
DoMaCo is gorgeous Bobber, based on the retro motor Norton. Such projects are rare, although two-cylinder unit of the British manufacturer is very good looks inside a rigid frame. Pictures of motorcycle did “Junk with Wheels” at Motor Show ” Spring Thaw” in Pennsylvania. Unfortunately, it is unknown who had a hand in this bike or what the story is behind this bike.
In any case, Bobber DoMaCo impressive balanced design, finish and overall awesome.

Continental Drift: A 'Grand Bentley' coupé 20 years on

The words ‘Bentley’ and ‘Continental’ have come to symbolise a certain way of life. In recent years, they have been applied to the super-successful, four-wheel-drive GT model. But from the early 1950s onwards, Bentley buyers ordering a ‘Continental’ knew they were getting the very top model in the range, extremely limited in production numbers and able to transport four people and their luggage from one end of Europe to the other.
    advertisement

In 1992, one year after the model’s introduction at the Geneva show, a new Bentley Continental R cost £168,294. That’s about 10 per cent more than Bentley’s current Continental GT, but a very sizeable investment 21 years ago.Fewer than 300 per year were built after the new car’s introduction, with production eventually settling down to around six a week until manufacture of the R/S/T/SC model range ceased in 2003.

The 140mph+ car was built on a version of the Mulsanne/Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit platform and its 360bhp turbocharged V8 was derived from that fitted to the Turbo R. Its elegant styling was by John Heffernan and Ken Greenley, and included a timeless, high-quality cabin swathed in leather and fine woods. The console-mounted gear lever was a first for a Bentley, signifying that this car really was for keen drivers.
Nowadays, the looks have dated little, particularly on the regular-wheelbase Continental R and S models (the ‘T’ being a high-performance 2+2, with four inches removed from its wheelbase). As ever, some of the colour combinations specified by Bentley customers can be a little on the ‘extravagant’ side, shall we say, but the Silica with Light Tan interior car you see here certainly errs on the side of caution.

What’s more, it’s priced at a pint of beer under £40,000. That’s the same sort of figure you might have to pay for an early, new-generation Conti GT, but this one is a genuine, hand-built 'Grand Bentley' with all the emotional history that goes with it – something that’s not always quantifiable in mere financial terms.

    Laverda V6 racing concept

In 1950 Francesco Laverda developed the first Laverda motorcycle, a four stroke 75cc single. It was with this small capacity design that the Laverda brand gained its popularity in the motorcycle world. At the 1952 Milan-Taranto endurance race which covered 1410km, Laverda entered 20 of their 75cc race bikes. Of the 20 that entered 16 finished in the top 20 places beating the likes of Ducati and Moto Guzzi. From there Laverda went on to develop their 650 parallel twins and their legendary 750cc triples renowned for their superior power and bulletproof build quality. It was in 1977 though that Laverda unveiled something truly astounding. This bike is the 1000cc V6 Laverda, a one of a kind testing platform that unfortunately never went into production.

The V6 was developed by Laverda during the directorship of Massimo Laverda in 1977. Designed by ex-Maserati engineer Giulio Alfieri, the Breganze's engine had many similarities to V6 engines he had built working for Citroen and Maserati. Initial testing of the 90 degree V6 produced a power figure of 160bhp but to make it more manageable in a motorcycle frame was detuned to around 140bhp. On the track the V6 clocked up a top speed of 283kph (176mph) which for its time was an incredible result.

Initially conceived as a development test bed the V6 has been dubbed the "world’s fastest laboratory"

The V6 engine was a DOHC, water cooled, 1000cc, 6 cylinder that formed a large part of the bikes frame. Brembo discs provided braking, the forks were 38mm Marzocchi, Six 30mm Dell'Orto FDR carbs fed fuel to each of the cylinders and an F1 style ignition system fired the beast to life. The twin headlights came from a Porsche 911 and the lightweight wheels were Campagnolo. Beneath the bikes fairing were a pair of side mounted radiators for cooling which added to the bikes unwieldy 250kg weight.

The V6 made a one time appearance at the 24 hour Bol d'Or race in France piloted by Paul Richard. Although it's top speed could not be matched by other manufacturers the bikes 200kg+ bulk worked against it and due to technical problems it failed to complete the race. A second attempt was planned for 1979 but due to changes in race rules the bike was exempt from entering and the V6 project ended. The bike is now part of Piero Laverda's personal collection is valued in excess of $500,000 and is still fully functional.

    Rush promo pictures 08.4.2013

    Opens in September

A new trailer for Ron Howard's Formula 1 biopic, Rush, has been released ahead of the movie's launch in September.
Set in the 1970's, the film attempts to capture the "sexy and glamorous golden age of Formula 1 racing" as it delves into the fierce rivalry between James Hunt and Niki Lauda.
    Rush promo pictures 08.4.2013
Staring Chris Hemsworth (as Hunt) and Daniel Brühl (as Lauda), the movie promises to highlight the "contrast between these two extraordinary characters" who "push themselves to the breaking point of physical and psychological endurance."
    Rush promo pictures 08.4.2013
Besides having an interesting back story, the film tries to be pretty authentic as it was made in Germany, Austria and the United Kingdom. While they're plenty of special effects, several real race cars were used during filming.

    BackOnTwo’s CB350 – The Huf

    BOT LSide Rocks 800
This lovely little CB350 is the work of Lior Baruch, AKA Back on Two, and was the well-deserved winner of April’s Bike of the Month on Do The Ton. The Honda Threefiddy CeeBee is a lovely platform, and is the donor for some of the sweetest builds on these pages, but we like them most of all because they all seem to all come out so different. A lot of these smaller CBs are also resurrection marvels, including this one – especially when you take a peek at the donor bike, and the state she was in.
    BOT LS Donor 800
Even more impressive is the fact that Lior’s build has been put together in Israel, which is not normally associated with the cafe racer scene, so getting parts was no easy task with everything being imported.
    BOT TankClocksRS MS 800
The bike was picked up in November 2011 with the intention of making a pure cafe racer out of it, a first for Lior. The bike was completely taken apart until no two pieces were connected, and then he started with the design and concept. Every component was restored, rebuilt our sourced from everywhere from ebay to Dime City and any online shop that had appropriate parts on offer and could ship out to Israel.
    BOT LSide Engine MS 800
In order to create a flowing design along the CB’s frame Lior added a Benelli tank and universal seat. He then designed the racing stripes to go down from top to the sides of each part, connecting them up and creating a harmony between them. The rear fender is taken from a Ducati 900SD, all the aluminum parts were polished.
    BOT Rside 800
All the work was undertaken by Lior himself except the the lustrous bright paint, which was done by Erez Dror. Lior says he spent days and nights just staring at it, imagining how each part would connect to the next.
    BOT LS Engine MS 800
“A year ago I thought that I should name the bikes in some way… so the first thing was to name my personal workshop – BOT, Back On Two, which for me represent giving life back to bikes and getting them back on the road, either as original, custom, cafe or anything. I’m usually working on 2-3 bikes in parallel every time, anything goes…”
    BOT FALS MS 800
We love the clean a simple top yoke with a single, central mini-speedo and ‘proper’ old school domed nuts. Timeless.
    BOT Clocks 800
Keeping the CB350′s narrow profile and skinny tyres creates a classic cafe racer silhouette.
    BOT FA 800 CB
Original drum brakes have been painstakingly cleaned and restored.
    BOT Wheel 800
The end result is practically the poster-boy/pinup for the definitive cafe custom. No wonder this bike has been so popular with our facebook followers and on DoTheTon.
