Husqvarna motorcycles owned by Steve McQueen and Dennis Hopper to be auctioned

Steve McQueen and Dennis Hopper Husvarnas auction
    from Twowheelsblog
Two Husqvarna motorcycles previously owned by late actors Steve McQueen and Dennis Hopper, are going to be auction at the Mecum Auction that will take place at the Barker Hangar, Santa Monica, California on the 26th and 27th of July 2013.
McQueen’s motorcycle is a 1971 Husqvarna 400 Cross, that the King of Cool used in racing competitions and for off-road riding, and is the same model that appeared in the movie ‘On Any Sunday’, and that McQueen was pictured riding shirtless on the iconic cover of Sports Illustrated.
The two-stroke bike underwent a year long restoration process in 2012 to restore it to its original beauty.
Dennis Hopper’s 1968 Husqvarna 250T Commando is a true collectors item, as it is one of the only 300 Commandos that were ever produced by Husqvarna, and this is the first time that one of Hopper’s motorcycles (the actor passed away in 2010) has been offered at auction, and this machine has also undergone restoration.

    JB’s CM400 Racer

    JB ALu 4
When Junior Burrel’s CM400 cafe racer first hit the cafe/custom niche it went down a storm, and since then JB has continued to make a name for himself with not just his builds and his brand – RetroMoto – but with his overall contribution to the scene.
    JB ALu 3
The bike is back under the spotlight because JB build this stunning hand-beaten aluminium fairing for the bike, in just six days, as he was getting the bike ready for the One Show. Leaving the fairing in it’s raw aluminiun finish really showcased the work that went into it, as does the lack of a separate transparent screen or headlamp cutout. The bike just screams look at me, with it’s brutish front end. JB: “I built the copper headlight since I couldn’t bring myself to cut a hole in the fairing”. We don’t blame you, dude.
    JB ALu 1
Since the last time the bike was showcased on The Bike Shed JB has also built and added a 3″ extended swing arm, and hefty XR1200 rear shocks, which have made a considerable change in the bike’s the geometry.
    JB ALu 2
JB is currently in the process of going full time with his shop and has begun taking on full builds along side all the parts he’s making.
    JB ALu 5
“I also have the 3RM build going on with Logan Miller from Rust Revival and a couple of guys from Do The Ton for the Barber Vintage Festival.” JB also won the recent ‘Bike of the month’ there.

    LORD SELSDON’S MARVELLOUS LAGONDA

1939 Lagonda V12 ex Lords Selsdon and Waleran Le Mans entry 1 Lord Selsdons Marvellous Lagonda
The story behind this car is a captivating tale of a young Lord Selsdon, his best friend Lord Waren, their V12 Lagonda and a jaunt across Europe in the summer of 1939 on the eve of all out war across the continent. They were driving across Europe to take part in the Le Mans due to take place on the 17th and 18th June, they weren’t all that well prepared, in fact they weren’t really prepared at all.
The two men used the drive from Britain to France to test out the brand new car, they took turns driving and made it to Circuit de la Sarthe in time to enter the notorious endurance race.
They would be competing against some of the greatest racers of the era driving Bugattis, Aston Martins, BMWs, Delahayes, Delages and Morgans. They would also be competing directly against the German Nazis, the 3 German teams were all driving BMW 328s running straight-6 OHV engines.
1939 Lagonda V12 ex Lords Selsdon and Waleran Le Mans entry PLAQUE Lord Selsdons Marvellous Lagonda
The 24 hour race was long and hard but the weather held out and so did the British racing green Lagonda, Lords Selsdon and Waren successfully held off the Nazi team of Max zu Schaumburg-Lippe and Frtiz Hans Wenscher to take 4th place, am astonishing feat considering it was their first ever motor race.
Lord Selsdon had been bitten by the racing bug and he would return at the wheel of a Ferrari 166MM to the first Le Mans held after the war in 1949 where he went on to win the race by well over a lap with Luigi Chinetti as his co-driver.
If you’re a fan of vintage motor racing and you have a million or so stirling sitting around in need of a new home you might be interested to know that Selsdon’s original Le Mans Lagonda is heading to the auction block on the 15th of September this year. Chris Childs Welcome to Sunday

We are proud to announce that all-terrain shredder, Chris Childs has joined the Sunday team. Here are some words about how it came about from Team Manager Walter Pieringer… I could not be more proud to welcome Chris Childs to the Sunday team. Long story short, I’ve been working on a Ride UK magazine interview with Chris for the past few months, and he impressed me so much that I decided to put him on Sunday. Chris is an absolutely ridiculous bike rider and without a doubt one of my favorite people to both shoot and travel with, so I’m beyond excited to have the chance to do more of that with him now that he’s a part of the team. We shot video of everything Chris did for his magazine interview, so it only made sense to put that footage out as his welcome to Sunday edit. By the way, Chris fired all this out in one week in New England and one week in Austin. I hope you enjoy. -Walter Pieringer Video filmed and edited by Walter Pieringer - See more at: http://blog.derestricted.com/downhill-mountain-biking-dirt-jumping-bmx-fixed-gear/chris-childs-welcome-to-sunday/#sthash.RJoyCyOq.dpuf

SPORTSTER 48 BY RAMPANT X ELLASPEDE

    Sportster 48
When Warwick Lyon started work on this Sportster 48, he wanted to build a modern interpretation of a café racer with elements of a streetfighter. Lyon runs an Australian workshop called Rampant Motorcycles, and his forte is mechanics. So he called upEllaspede—another Brisbane-based builder, but with a background in industrial design.
Lyon had already boosted the power of the Sportster 48 with Stage 1 engine modifications. The stock 1200cc V-twin Evolution engine is a reasonably good performer, producing around 67hp and 107Nm of torque. But by fitting a Screaming Eagle air intake, a Vance & Hines exhaust system, and remapping the ECU, Lyon raised output to 75hp and 115Nm of torque—and improved tractability too.
    Sportster 48
Ellaspede got to work on the bodywork, removing the cruiser-style rear fender and replacing it with a custom fabricated tail section. They also suggested that Lyon raise the rear end 2.5” using new Progressive Suspension shocks, and lower the front slightly. The stock peanut tank was replaced with a more practical Harley-Davidson 3.3 gallon tank, and the forward foot controls were ditched in favor of rearsets and clip-on bars.
The tail section is especially neat. The lockable storage compartment was the most time-consuming element of the build, requiring a Styrofoam mockup, computer modeling and CNC cutting. A custom seat pan was fabricated and then (along with the storage compartment door) covered in tuck-and-roll kangaroo leather. The LED taillight fits flush into the rear cowl and the whole structure is mounted to the frame using custom mounts.
    Sportster 48
Another CNC item was the number plate mount, cut from aluminum and finished in matte black. (The custom mounting point also allows for a fender to be run if desired.) The top tree and gauge mount were reinterpretations of the original items; the tree was machined to allow the stock Sportster 48 gauge mount to be inverted and fitted underneath—which also allowed the use of the original pilot/dash light strip.
The custom muffler shrouds were fabricated from stainless steel and have been ceramic coated. Custom CNC-milled engine covers were powder coated, then etched to feature the emblems of both builders.
Sportster 48Some of the cleverest work is invisible. The electrics were heavily re-worked for a minimalist result, with much of the loom re-routed and concentrated at the back of the bike. And wisely, the paint uses subdued tones. Many standard items were repainted in the same black color but in different matte, satin or gloss finishes to compliment the overall theme.
It’s a build that dramatically changes the look, stance, and riding position of the Sportster 48. And with a useful boost in power, this is one Harley-Davidson with the go to match the show.

Cal Crutchlow takes second at Sachsenring with never give up attitude

    Cal Crutchlow 2013 Sachsenring race
With all the attention concentrated on Jorge Lorenzo and Dani Pedrosa injuries, many forgot that Cal Crutchlow had suffered two huge crashes on Friday that left him nursing numerous cuts, bruises and friction burns and what he described on Saturday as his “worst day of the season.”
Crutchlow wasn’t even sure he would able to ride, but ride he did, to stunning second place - even if he admitted at the parc ferme that he felt like ’shit’.
The Briton is made of stern stuff - as he has demonstrated over and over again - and he bounced back from his injuries to take his fourth podium finish of the season and consolidate his 4th position in the standings, but just 31 points from new standings leader Marc Marquez.
“I am really happy to be on the podium again because it was a hard race in my physical condition,” said Crtuchlow. “The two crashes in practice took a lot out of me but I dug deep and it is great to get another podium for the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 Team. I actually made a really good start but I had to roll off the throttle when Marc came towards me and that cost me a few places. The bike worked really well in the first few laps and I was able to fight my way through and I really enjoyed it.
Cal Crutchlow 2013 Sachsenring raceCal Crutchlow 2013 Sachsenring raceCal Crutchlow 2013 Sachsenring raceCal Crutchlow 2013 Sachsenring race
“In the second half of the race the bike felt great and I was fast. I came on strong and pulled away from Valentino and I did absolutely everything I could to close down Marc. I couldn’t have done anything more but credit to him because he didn’t make a mistake, he controlled the gap to me very well and he deserved to win. I just kept on pushing and at the end second is another fantastic result. It is my fourth podium and I am not so far back in the Championship, so I can’t really ask for anything more. Now we go to Laguna trying to fight for another podium and hopefully that first win.”
Actually Crutchlow in an interview with Bikesportnews.com said, “In the first laps, me and Valentino struggled so much, we were out of the seat so many times. I’m saying we couldn’t get any heat in the tyre but we had no rear grip in the first ten laps and really struggled opening the gas.
So go figure which is the truth, but we did see both Yamaha riders suffer a few moments, and Crutchlow was all over the track in the first half of the race, while in the second half he was much smoother.
