Snapshot, 1999: Gisele Bündchen in monochrome

Gisele Caroline Bündchen might be more familiar to most as the blonde, bronzed Brazilian beauty from more than a decade’s worth of fashion magazines. But in 1999, photographer Patrick Demarchelier captured her in monochromatic glory…
A signed and numbered (3 of 3) print from the shoot will be auctioned off at the Artcurial Photography Department’s inaugural auction in Paris on 20 May 2014, carrying an estimate of €15,000 – €20,000.

Volkswagen Motorsport has broken Citroën’s record by winning its ninth WRC event in a row, but both brands were present on the final Rally Argentina 2014 podium today. Jari-Matti Latvala (VW/Michelin) triumphed ahead of team-mate Sébastien Ogier by 1m26.9s, with Britain’s Kris Meeke third for Citroën.
Having only debuted in the WRC last year, the Michelin-shod Volkswagen Polo R WRC has now celebrated its 15th world championship victory and ninth in swift succession since Rally Australia in 2013. The previous record of eight had been set by Citroën during the 2011 campaign.
Volkswagen dominated the fifth outing of the 2014 season. Jari-Matti Latvala, Sébastien Ogier and Andreas Mikkelsen recorded no fewer than six one-two-three fastest stage times and between them prevailed on 10 of the 14 speed tests during this 34th edition of Rally Argentina, characterised by punishing terrain that had been ravaged by the heavy rain of recent weeks.
The duel between Latvala and Ogier was gripping, with the pair exchanging the lead on no fewer than four occasions on the first leg alone. After a stunning performance over the 51.88km of Ascochinga-Agua de Oro (SS5), the Finn returned to the Villa Carlos Paz service park on Friday evening at the top of the timesheets.
Jari-Matti subsequently more than held his own against the defending world champion over the fast, rough and sodden roads of the Valle de Calamuchita on Saturday, before delivering the knockout blow on Sunday morning on the descent from Mina Clavero and through El Condor, in atrocious weather conditions.
The best performer of the rally with five stage wins to his name, Jari-Matti’s superb Argentine success marked the 10th WRC triumph of his career – lifting him level with Richard Burns and Ari Vatanen in the all-time honours list – and re-ignites his title challenge following his Portuguese disappointment last month.
Andreas Mikkelsen (VW) might also have joined the scrap for the top step of the podium had he not suffered a broken alternator belt that forced him to stop on SS5. Picking up a five-minute time penalty, the Norwegian re-started the next day under Rally2 regulations and went immediately on the attack, setting the quickest time on SS6 and going on to regain three spots in the overall classification.
Mikkelsen ultimately finished just 23.6 seconds shy of the rostrum behind British ace Kris Meeke (Citroën), who replicated the third place he had achieved on Rallye Monte-Carlo, despite this being his first competitive appearance in Argentina. Following a mistake on SS2, Mads Østberg in the sister DS3 WRC failed to extend Citroën’s ten-year unbroken run of finishes in the South American country. With an injured thumb, the Norwegian was eventually obliged to retire two stages from the end. Finland’s Mikko Hirvonen (Ford) similarly went off the road on SS2, but dominated the event’s final leg with three fastest stage times through the fog to recover to ninth overall.
Hyundai’s return to Argentina was no more straightforward, with both i20 WRCs coming to a halt on SS5 with engine issues. Dani Sordo was forced out of the rally for good the next day, whilst team-mate Thierry Neuville succeeded in bringing his car home in fifth place, with a notable victory on stage ten to the Belgian’s credit. Robert Kubica finished sixth in a Ford Fiesta RS WRC ahead of Elfyn Evans and Martin Prokop in similar cars.
In WRC-2, the experienced Nasser Al-Attiyah (Ford Fiesta RRC/Michelin) added to his Portuguese spoils with a second consecutive triumph. The Qatari saw off Diego Dominguez (third in a Ford) by more than six minutes, with the home hero nonetheless winning the second round of the Codasur South American Rally Championship. These two were the only drivers not to have to resort to Rally2, as Peru’s Nicolas Fuchs (second in a Ford), Italian Lorenzo Bertelli (fourth in a Ford) and Al-Attiyah’s countryman Abdulaziz Al-Kuwari (fifth in a Ford) all found themselves needing to re-start in order to reach the finish of what was a particularly demanding Rally Argentina.

Hellas Rally Raid 2014; le résultat final

CARS: Like all results also the leaders in the cars are provisonally, eventually some penalties could change some times... Winners of the stage were again the Israelians Heyman / Segal with their yellow Segal-Proto, they needed 01:38:49 (real) hours (21:27 pointed hours) for the 64,48 kilometers timed section.

Only 3:33 minutes later the Bulgarian Toyota-Chevrolet of Konstantin Cholakov finished second, third eventually was the Italian Range Rover of Moro / Comi (01:45:01 / 27:29) in front of the Greek Mitsubishi of Dimitriadis / Kalfas (01:47:30 / 30:08) and the Toyota Land Cruiser of Koutsoubos / Vasileiadou (01:48:00 / 30:38).

So it looks like that the big three overall winners are the French Jerome Pelichet and Eugenie Decré with their Overdrive Toyota (05:30:54 pointed hours), Dimitriadis / Kalfas (+5:53) and Heyman / Segal (+01:46:47). Fourth eventually are Israel´s Mitsubishi T2-drivers Shpira / Moldawsky (+04:45:20), fifth the Italian duo Roberto Musi / Eleonora Dal Pra in the long-station Land Rover Defender pickup (+07:04:50).

BIKES: First Bikers finished the Hellas Rally Raid Lepanto 2014! Provisonally today´s stagewin is going to... Matthias Walkner from Austria, he needed 01:28:40 hours for the 64 kms timed section. Eventually second is the Czech Ondrej Klymciw with his Husqvarna (+02:15 minutes), third Pedro Bianchi Prata from Portugal (+03:33). They were followed by Italian Massimo Prazzoli (KTM, +04:25) and UK´s Darren Perry (Husaberg, +05:15).

Provisionally WE HAVE SOME WINNERS IN THE BIKES (if there were no more penalties...): Sensationally MATTHIAS WALKNER from Austria - in his FIRST RALLY EVER! He needed 21:01:46 hours for the Rally... which means he was 22:08 minutes faster than the eventually second Ondrej Klymciw and 37:48 minutes faster than rally-expert Pedro Bianchi Prata... Congratulations!

BUGGIES / SSV: Double-stagewin for the Kinigadners! Heinz Kinigadner has made again a stagewin today - with 01:50:34 he was only 4:50 minutes faster than his son Hannes Kinigadner who became second in front of Cvetelin Canev from Bulgaria (+11:31). Fourth eventually is Martin Ivanov, also from Bulgaria (+32:34), fifth Dusan Randysek from the Czech Republic (+01:02:39).

So the provisionally winners in the Buggies category of the Hellas Rally 2014 are Cvetelin Canev with his Polaris RZR900 and 28:38:44 hours overall, Dusan Randysek (Arctic Cat, +01:50:13) and Pavel Vyoral (CZ, Arctic Cat, +03:42:54).

Heinz Kinigadner started a great catch-on race after his crash in the first stage, got some stagewins but finally got too much penalties and finished fourth with a gap of 19:36:29 hours. his paraplegic son provisionally finished fifth with a gap of 20:15:54 hours.

QUADS: Also the quads finished the last stage of the rally on Sunday. Provisionally first today was again the French Sebastién Souday with his Yamaha Raptor, he needed 01:35:13 hours for the stage. Second is Dutchman Jan Willem Goedhart (Can Am) with 01:47:19, third his compatriot Jan Poppen (Can Am, 01:55:13), fourth George Metaxas from Greece (Yamaha Raptor, 01:56:40) and fifth Dutch Frank Bos (02:05:17)...

In the overall rankings provisionally the Greek George Metaxas is the winner of the 2014 Hellas-edition with 27:23:16 hours, second is Jan Poppen (29:38:07), third Jan Willem Goedhart (30:44:42). The top 5 eventually were completed with Sebastién Souday (30:51:25 - which would mean he lost the podium by only 6:43 minutes) and Frank Bos (32:07:33).

Eddy Jerak from Slovenia, who lead the rally until Saturday when he crashed, started today but made "Start-Finish"...so after his bad day he will stay in the Quads Top 10 finally.

WTCC RACE 2 CANCELLED DUE TO HEAVY RAIN

The second WTCC race at the Slovakia Ring has been cancelled due to heavy rain.
The adverse weather conditions had already forced the race control to shorten the first race after eight laps out of eleven for safety reasons.
This was enough to reach 75% of the planned distance and award full points for the Drivers’ and Manufacturers’ Championships.
This is the first time a WTCC race is cancelled since the championship was revived in 2005.
