    Rally dos Sertões: Gonçalves wins SS2 in Bikes but Coma still overall leader./Mitsubishi´s Spinelli / Haddad the new leader in the cars.

    The second day of the 22nd edition of the "Rally dos Sertões" in Brazil, between Caldas Novas and Catalão, began with changes in the special test course. For security reasons, the special had to be reduced and had only 78 km, against 202.23 kilometers planned. Even so, there were many emotions and an exciting dispute.

    In bikes, the current world champion and current winner of the Rally do Sertões, the Portuguese Paulo Gonçalves (Honda HRC Team) was the best in the stage and closed the special with the time of 00:45:37 minutes, little more than a minute faster than the Brazilian Jean Azevedo (Honda Mobil de Rally), who was the first runner-up.

    The Spaniard Marc Coma (KTM Red Bull Factory Team) finished third, but he is the overall leader, with the time of 02:42:27 hours, with 39 seconds of advantage to Gonçalves. Thirty-six of the 37 bikes disputed the second stage Today.

    "Today the special test was very short. I started in the third position and I would like that it was a longer special to try to recover. I think I managed to recover more or less 1:40 minutes the difference for Marc Coma. Now we have five days ahead to try to get a good final position," said Paulo Gonçalves after the stage.

    In the quads, thirteen competitors completed the second stage. The current champion, the Brazilian Robert Nahas (RNN Sports), was the winner with a time of 00:51:33 minutes. Tom Rosa (ATV Yamaha) was the first runner-up and Gabriel Varela (Divino Fogão Rally Team) finished third.

    The Polish Rafal Sonik (Sonik Team), winner of the first stage, and Marcelo Medeiros (Taguatur Racing), who won the prologue, missed the route and lost time. Medeiros was the fifth in the day and Sonik the seventh. Nahas also took the lead in the overall (03:04:45 hours), with more than five minutes ahead to Medeiros and Sonik.

    In the UTV/SSV, the duo Jose Helio Rodrigues and Edmilson de Camargo (Polaris Racing) got the victory in the second stage in UTVs with the time of 00:53:26 mins. Denisio Casarini and Eduardo Shiga (Casarini Can-Am) were second on the day and are leading overall with 03:14:25 hours, just 10 seconds ahead for the duo Rodrigo Varela and John Arena (Divino Fogão Rally Team). 


    With the special test reduced for safety reasons, competitors of the "Rally dos Sertões" in Brazil forced the pace in the race of the 2nd stage on Monday (25th), between the cities of Caldas Novas and Catalão. The special had the dispute of 78 km, against 202.23 kilometers planned. 43 of 45 cars disputed the second stage.

    In category T1 FIA (cars), the four-time champion Guilherme Spinelli and the co-driver Youssef Haddad accelerated their Mitsubishi ASX Racing and got the victory with a time of 00:48:30 minutes. Cristian Baumgart and Beco Andreotti (NWM Ford Ranger) were first runners up, just ahead of teammates Marcos Baumgart and Kleber Cincea (Ford Ranger).

    Reinaldo Varela and Gustavo Gugelmin (Overdrive Toyota Hilux), who were leading, got a penalty (they over speeded in a radar zone), and dropped to fourth place overall.

    Spinelli and Haddad took the overall lead from Varela, with the time of 02:40:45 hours, followed by Marcos Baumgart and Cincea. "It was a more enjoyable special test than yesterday, although three quarters of it have been canceled, which is a shame, but it was fast, with nice mounds. Anyway, we forced the pace a little more," said Spinelli.

    In T1 Prototypes, the duo João Franciosi / Rafael Capoani (Mitsubishi Petrobras) won and got the overall lead (02:56:50). In Pro Brasil, Mauro Guedes and Neurivan Calado (MS Rally) also won and remained in the overall lead (02:54:44).

    In Super Production, Glauber Fontoura and Minae Miyauti (Mitsubishi Ralliart Brazil) still unbeatable after winning the prologue and the first two stages. In Production T2, Vilson Thomas / William Thomas is another duo that won the day's special and is on overall leadership with 03:15:57 hours.

    In the trucks, six-time champion of the Rally dos Sertões, Edu Piano and co-drivers Solon Mendes and Antonio Carlos de Sales (Ford F4000) won also the second stage and they are in the trucks leadership, with 00:02:52 minutes of advantage for the trio Kenner Garcia / Rafael dal Bello / Raphael Bettoni (Ford F4000), who was the first runner up Today.

    On Tuesday the competitors depart towards Paracatu (Minas Gerais State) in the dispute of the 3rd stage of the Rally dos Sertões 2014. There will be 360.45 km in total on the third day (22.20 km of initial liaison, 209.86 km of special and 128.39 km of final liaison).

    Between Goiânia and Belo Horizonte, Sertões will go through five more cities. Three will host the rally for the first time: Catalão, Paracatu and São Francisco. Caldas Novas and Diamantina complete the route.

    PRODUCT REVIEW BY THE BIKE SHED’S VERY OWN ALI LATIMER – DRAGGIN TWISTA JEANS
    Now I’m a firm believer in testing something before writing about it, but we all know that Draggin are one of the leaders in motorcycle jeans that are designed to properly protect you in a crash with their Kevlar lining… well I’m not going to force that side of the test, if it ever happens, I’ll be sure to let you know how they did!

    I have however tested them for casual purposes and riding in without crashing; and I have to say, these are the comfiest pair of jeans I have ever worn; now I’m not just saying that, they really feel great both on and off the bike, the moment I first slid my sparrow like legs into these skinny fit jeans, I knew I had a bit of kit that I will live in. Unlike conventional Kevlar lined riding jeans, these have a seamless exterior, making them look just like a regular pair of jeans. Without the additional knee armour no one would know they are quite so purposeful, yet with the Knox knee armour inserted they still look good, only close inspection allows anyone to realise they are armoured, but best of all, they lose none of their comfort.

    I have ridden the Bonneville and the Ducati Café Racer in these, two very different riding positions and they felt great in any position, they have a high enough back rise to stop unwanted drafts but not so high that they remind you of your granddads army issue slacks. They don’t gather behind the knee nor in the crotch, they’re airy for a warm summers day and yet are thick enough for Spring and Autumn riding too, I doubt they’ll be warm enough in the winter, but I have over trousers for the coldest of days which I can peel off when I get to my destination and have these on underneath.
    On the Café I wore my work books under them and they hugged the boots at my ankle well with no rising, on the Bonnie I wore my MX style boots over them and they were close enough not to need folding within the boot, something I’ve always found annoying with other pairs of jeans.

    They are made from 98% Cotton and 2% Elastane, but the level of flex they have makes it feel like more, they really move well without any restriction, the lining is 100% Kevlar and they are machine washable on a cold cycle.
    So to summarise, if you like a skinny jean; which clearly I do… I don’t see another option for your next pair of jeans, I can’t praise them enough… and I have to admit, I was never a huge fan of Draggin Jeans in the past… consider me well and truly converted!

    So the Bike Shed crew have just got back from Belgium having attended the Cosmic Nozem custom bike show put on by Steven and the MotoKouture team. There was a fine display of cycles, but also some pretty cool gear too.
    MotoKouture have a reputation for producing very high quality and innovative builds, examples of which were on display at the Bike Shed III in May. Not only do they build bikes, but they build leathers too. They offer a completely bespoke service for leather jackets, trousers and one-pieces.

    Husband and wife team Steven and Sophie will build you your garments from scratch, taking detailed measurements and talking through designs with you. The jackets and suits can be made in single or multicoloured versions, striped horizontally or vertically in many contrasting colours, pockets where you want them, back protection, shoulder, elbow, hip, and knee armour if requested, and inner lining in purple or orange satin.

    The hide they use are high-grade Mastrotto NKP leather with high technical standards. Tough and flexible, abrasive and highly water repellant. Forcefield Body Armour is incorporated where needed.

    The Roland Sands Hesher II Jacket is an updated version of the original Hesher jacket. The Hesher II is a short workwear inspired jacket in heavy duty duck canvas. Made from water repellent material (not waterproof) with pre-curved and rotated sleeves for a comfortable riding position. The interior lining is in a luxurious (very) red satin. It has pockets on the chest and features front zip pockets, with the ability to insert shoulder and elbow armour.

    It’s not leather and it’s not one of those new-fangled textile materials that’s stronger than steel but softer than a butterfly’s wing – it’s canvas. Good old fashioned duck canvas cotton. The canvas weighs in at 14.75oz and has a water resistant finish; good for those damp autumn mornings.

    It’s not a hard-core motorcycle jacket that offers tons of protection while sacrificing off-the-bike looks and comfort. Instead it offers off-the-bike looks and comfort (once it breaks-in) while, at the same time, providing more protection than a denim jacket or a sweat shirt and it looks pretty damn good too.

    The Stylmartin Legend R motorcycle boots are part of the Stylmartin touring series. These full grain leather boots have a classic style and high quality finish. The Legend R boots have internal ankle protection on both sides of the boots for increased protection in this vulnerable area. These boots look great on a classic or a retro styled custom.

    The Italian company mainly makes racing boots for road and off-road use, but they have now branched into touring boots and sneakers. Because of their racing background, there is more protection than the average retro styled boot.

    The upper is constructed with a full grain writer leather, and the lining is water proof and breathable. They contain internal polyurethane malleolus protection. They feature a zip fastening for easy removal and an adjustable strap on the instep and leg. The sole is an anti-slip, oil proof and hard wearing rubber.

    They are available in black, brown and a new sand colour. The full grain writer leather used for this boot tends to lighten in an irregular way with use, creating a light and shade effect on its surface. In a short time this creates an intentional vintage look.

    These are a hard wearing, protective boot in a classic cafe racer style, that come at a reasonable price. Who can complain?

    So you’ve waited what seems like an eternity for your Bell Bullitt, and it’s finally arrived.  You’ve had it five minutes, and it gets knocked by some idiot as you walk to the lock-up to get the bike out to show it off. You wish you’d carried the damn thing in a bag and not had it dangling as a moron magnet from your arm. Now it’s scratched, and you won’t be able to stop thinking about it for at least a week.

    This can be so easily avoided by investing the princely sum of thirty five quid on a helmet bag from Bell. Made from soft faux leather and plush red interior it keeps your lid protected, and looks pretty cool in a 70s retro way. A simple and effective way of keeping any lid safe from careless pedestrians and vindictive lamp posts.

    WRC ; Quand l’histoire radote…/ History repeating itself!


    Comme en 2013, Volkswagen Motorsport est reparti de Trèves avec un zéro pointé. Comme en 2002 et en 2013, le Rallye Deutschland a couronné un nouveau pilote en WRC. Comme en 2005, un Belge a remporté un rallye mondial. Comme en 2003, une World Rally Car classée épave s’est imposée trois jours plus tard !
    Pour Volkswagen Motorsport, qui n’avait plus perdu depuis un an et 12 rallyes consécutifs, le Rallye Deutschland 2014 ressemble étrangement à celui de l’édition 2013 : un Seb Ogier leader qui part à la faute une première fois, puis une seconde. Un Jari-Matti Latvala en tête qui sort à son tour, privant VW d’un succès à domicile, et cette année du titre Constructeurs sur ses terres.
    Du coup, quand Kris Meeke s’est retrouvé en tête à trois spéciales du but, on a cru que l’histoire allait se répéter pour Citroën, invaincu sur cette épreuve depuis 2001 (12 victoires consécutives).
    Et puis non... Les dieux du rallye ont finalement choisi de récompenser Hyundai pour son retour en WRC cette saison, et le vice-champion du monde 2013 Thierry Neuville. Comme Sébastien Loeb en 2002 et Dani Sordo l’an passé, l’ADAC Rallye Deutschland ouvre le palmarès mondial d’un nouveau pilote, le 73e depuis 1973 ! Près de dix ans après François Duval (Australie 2005), Thierry Neuville (26 ans) est le second pilote belge à gagner un rallye WRC. N’oublions pas Nicolas Gilsoul, 89e copilote vainqueur d’un rallye mondial et troisième Belge (Delferrier, Smeets).
    Hyundai est le 21e constructeur à remporter un rallye WRC, et le premier coréen. Et quelle victoire ! C’est même avec un doublé que Hyundai est entré dans l’histoire du WRC, huit mois seulement après son retour officiel en Mondial. C’est le 134e doublé d’un constructeur en WRC depuis 1973. Même Volkswagen n’a pas (encore) fait mieux !
    Cette victoire de Thierry Neuville et de Hyundai restera forcément dans les annales du WRC, comme celle de Petter Solberg au Tour de Corse 2003. Jeudi 16 octobre au matin, la Subaru Impreza WRC du Norvégien avait plongé dans le maquis du côté de Capo di Feno, lors du Shakedown. C’est à pied que Petter Solberg était monté sur le podium de départ, pendant que les mécaniciens réparaient la Subaru dans un atelier près d’Ajaccio…
    Trois jours plus tard, à l’issue d’un rallye disputé dans des conditions météo difficiles et marqué par de nombreux rebondissements, Petter Solberg et Phil Mills étaient de retour sur le podium d’Ajaccio, avec leur monture cette fois, en grands vainqueurs…
    L’histoire s’est donc répétée ce week-end en Allemagne pour Thierry Neuville et Hyundai Motorsport : détruite au Shakedown jeudi matin, l’i20 WRC N°7 a été réparée dans la nuit. Trois jours plus tard, elle était sur la plus haute marche du podium devant la Porta Nigra… Pour l’anecdote, l’équipe Hyundai avait déclaré forfait à la dernière minute pour ce Tour de Corse 2003 et quitté le WRC en catimini…
    As in 2013, Volkswagen Motorsport left Germany with zero points. As in 2002 and 2013, Rallye Deutschland produced a new WRC winner. As in 2005, a Belgian driver won a world class rally. As in 2003, a wrecked car went on to win outright!
    For Volkswagen Motorsport, which was on a run of 12 straight victories, the 2014 Rallye Deutschland proved uncannily similar to the 2013 event. Ogier led but then crashed twice, leaving top spot to Latvala who also went off to deprive the German make of success on home soil and, this year, postpone its Manufacturers’ title celebrations.
    When Kris Meeke found himself in front with three stages remaining, it looked as though Citroën would continue its unbeaten record in Germany since 2001. But no. Rallying’s gods chose instead to reward Hyundai for its return to the WRC and also last season’s vice-champion Thierry Neuville.
    Like Sébastien Loeb in 2002 and Dani Sordo in 2013, Rallye Deutschland added a new name to the list of WRC winners, the 73rd since 1973. Almost 10 years after François Duval (Australia, 2005), Neuville, 26, is the second Belgian driver to join the list, while Nicolas Gilsoul is the 89th co-driver to win a world championship event, and the third Belgian after Delferrier and Smeets.
    Hyundai is the 21st carmaker – and the first from Korea – to strike gold. And what a triumph it was since Rallye Deutschland brought it a one-two finish (the 134th in WRC history), just eight months after its return to the sport’s premier series.
    Neuville’s win with Hyundai will also be remembered for its similarity to Petter Solberg’s victory in Corsica in 2003 when his Subaru crashed on shakedown. The Norwegian and his co-driver Phil Mills attended the start ceremony without a car while their mechanics rebuilt the Impreza WRC in a workshop near Ajaccio.
    Three days later, the crew survived the drama and terrible weather to finish on the top step of the podium.
    There was a sense of déjà vu last week in Germany, therefore, when Neuville destroyed the N°7 i20 WRC on shakedown but was able to restart thanks to the dedication of Hyundai Motorsport’s mechanics who worked through the night. Three days later, the Belgian youngster was spraying champagne in front of Trier’s Porta Nigra… Interestingly, the former Hyundai team withdrew from the 2003 Tour de Corse at the last minute and didn’t return to the WRC until last January with a completely new operation.

    BMW MONOLEVER BY FLAT RACER

    Flat Racer is a boutique London-based company that produces some eye-catching accessories for vintage BMW motorcycles, the bike you see above started life as a stock 1990 BMW Monolever before being kitted out in a new full-fairing – giving it an entirely new lease on life.
    When the team at Flat Racer set out to design the fairing they made a point of ensuring that it could be fitted without irreversibly altering the frame – this may not sound like much but the process took 5 years to complete.
    Shakedown testing on the prototype (pictured here) revealed that it had a higher top speed than the stock bike, with slightly better fuel consumption and an improved riding position – not to mention the fact that it looks an order of magnitude better than the original OEM BMW fairing that hasn’t aged particularly well.

    Nous partions à vélo nous n'avions ni casque ni protection pour les coudes et les genoux !
    On buvait de l'eau du robinet, du jardin ou là ou on en trouvait jusqu’à ce qu'on n'ait plus soif ! On n'avait pas de bouteille minérale .
    On mettait des heures à construire des voitures avec des caisses et des tuyaux qui ne respectaient pas mes normes AFNOR ou CEE
    Après quelques chocs on avait appris à résoudre le problème !
    On se laissait tomber contre un arbre ou par terre !
    Le SAMU n'intervenait pas à chaque chute !
    On sortait jouer à la seule condition de rentrer pour l'heure du repas.
    On allait à l'école pour travailler et apprendre et non pour développer notre potentiel de créativité ou notre popularité !
    Lorsqu'on ne travaillait pas, l'instituteur nous donnait des punitions ou des coups de règles sur les doigts ! Nos parents ne sont jamais aller porter plainte ni frapper l'instit', on savait qu'on l'avait mérité !
    On n'avait pas de portable, on écrivait des lettres et des cartes postales !
    On se coupait, on se cassait les os, on perdait des dents, mais il n'y avait jamais de plainte déposée pour ces accidents . Personne n'était coupable sauf nous mêmes !
    On jouait aux gendarmes et aux voleurs, on jouait avec des pétards, on n'a jamais fait brûler des voitures !
    On partageait un coca à 4 (quand on pouvait se l'acheter car c'était la bouteille en verre de 1 litre). On buvait tous à la même bouteille et personne n'est mort de le faire !
    On n'avait pas de Playstation, Mp3, Nintendo, 99 chaines de tv par le câble
    Par contre on avait de vrais amis, on sortait, on prenait nos vélos ou on marchait jusqu'à chez nos copains. On sonnait ou on entrait tout simplement et on allait jouer !
    On jouait avec des bâtons, avec des balles de tennis , à cache cache, aux football, au ballon prisonnier, à la poupée, aux petites voitures et non au SIM'S et SECOND LIFE .
    Certains n'étaient pas de très bons élèves ils devaient simplement redoubler l'année quand ils ne réussissaient pas. Personne n'allait chez les psychologues ou les pédopsychiatres !
    On a fait l'expérience de la liberté, du succès et des échecs des responsabilités !
    Et on a appris à se débrouiller !!!
