The Monster Energy Monza Rally Show 2014 saw nine-time World Champion Valentino Rossi joined by a host of big names from the world of four wheels, with the likes of F1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton and rally driver Ken Block also in attendance.

It was an event not to be missed and a huge Italian crowd turned out to watch their heroes throw down on the famous Monza circuit in the pouring rain.
The ground may have been dampened but spirits definitely were not and The Doctor wowed the crowds with his performance on four wheels, where he just missed out on getting his fourth Monza win to ex-F1 charger Robert Kubica.
Rossi commented, “First of all I enjoyed it a lot, it’s a shame because before the last stage I had a 17 second advantage but I did a mistake. From that moment it was difficult to get back on the pace. It was a good rally, I enjoyed it. It’s always a great weekend and I enjoy seeing all my fans. It’s a good way to close the season.”
On Sunday Mercedes AMG PETRONAS driver Hamilton took out a Mercedes AMG A45 to open the Masters Show, stating afterwards, “I’ve had a really good time, I’m grateful to Monster for bringing me out here. It’s another very cool event, I went out to the MotoGP Catalunya earlier in the year and today to get out and drive on the Monza Rally circuit and see Valentino and Ken Block too, it’s just cool to be part of this amazing event. I want to work with my guys to get a car together so I can come back and compete next year, to do some rallying would be great.”

‘77 BMW R100 ‘Night Cruise’ – A Max Daines Film

Here’s something we hope we see more of. A sweet bike, a bunch of sweet, sweet photos and a very sweet video. Max Daines is a cinematographer in Utah that has recently turned his hand to a bit of automotive film making. With the help of a damn nice BMW R100 bobber, Photographer Jun Song, and a whole bunch of empty city, Max has managed to produce something that raises the bar while avoiding some of the more typical clichés of the genre. So sit back and enjoy the sights and sounds of a star R100 BMW and her first big box office success, “Night Cruise’.
    30_11_2014_bmw_13
Here’s Max. “This beautiful custom 1977 BMW R100 completes the perfect trifecta of Porsche, Land Rover and BMW in the garage of a Utah-based designer. As a pedigreed petrol-head, he was brought home from the hospital in his father’s Jaguar E-Type and grew up around Porsche 930s/911s and Austin Healeys.”
    30_11_2014_bmw_07
“After owning three other BMW motorcycles, an F650, a K1200RS and a Concours-perfect 50/2, the discovery of this R100 was love at first sight for its owner. Originally customized in L.A. by a retired Ferrari mechanic, the bike was once displayed at the Deus Emporium of Post Modern Activities in Venice, California.”
    30_11_2014_bmw_03
“The fenders have been shortened, and the rear end has been cleaned up with a Model A-style tail light and custom bullet blinkers. To give more of a modern feel to the ride, air shocks have been used in place of coils.
The battery has been relocated under the seat, and the electrical system has been updated to allow for electric start and an electronic speedo. To wrap it up, the bike was fitted with custom mufflers and brat-style wheels and tires.”
    30_11_2014_bmw_12
    30_11_2014_bmw_14
    30_11_2014_bmw_15
“Whether you want to call it a cafe racer with bobber influences, or a bobber with brat influences, it’s perfect for a cruise around the city.”
No coincidence, then, that’s exactly what Max captured in this short film. If you’ve become a little tired of the usual video offerings in the custom bike scene, we think that you might find this production refreshingly different. Enjoy.

F1 meets contemporary art at Adrenalin exhibition in London

From the 19 November to 23 December, the Fine Art Society in London will be playing host to an F1-inspired exhibition by Angela Palmer, which presents this exciting and dangerous sport from a completely new perspective...
Working in close collaboration with Renault Sport F1, the artist deconstructed the highly successful Renault RS27 engine – that has powered both Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel to world titles - using CAD drawings.
Focusing on the individual component parts of the V8, Palmer has recreated them on a much larger scale using different materials in order to change their persona. For example, she doubled the size of the exhaust system and sculpted it in walnut to highlight the organic, almost tree-like qualities of this highly complex man-made design.

    A hand-blown engine

The most impressive piece has to be the life-size cross-section of the engine, hand-drawn on 25 sheets of glass and showing just how complex the modern F1 engine has grown to be.
But it’s not all about technology: Palmer’s casting of an F1 driver’s helmet in crystal glass is a reminder of the fragility of the human form in the pursuit of going faster, a concept made even more poignant by Jules Bianchi’s incident at Suzuka just a few weeks ago.

FIA World Endurance Championship : Samba brésilienne pour Porsche, KCMG gagne en LM P2, SMP Racing titré

MOTORSPORT : WORLD ENDURANCE CHAMPIONSHIP - WEC - 6 HOURS OF SAO PAULO - ROUND 8 - INTERLAGOS (BRA) 2014/11/29-30

MOTORSPORT : WORLD ENDURANCE CHAMPIONSHIP - WEC - 6 HOURS OF SAO PAULO - ROUND 8 - INTERLAGOS (BRA) 2014/11/29-30
MOTORSPORT : WORLD ENDURANCE CHAMPIONSHIP - WEC - 6 HOURS OF SAO PAULO - ROUND 8 - INTERLAGOS (BRA) 2014/11/29-30
SMP Racing sourit, G-Drive Racing pleure…
MOTORSPORT : WORLD ENDURANCE CHAMPIONSHIP - WEC - 6 HOURS OF SAO PAULO - ROUND 8 - INTERLAGOS (BRA) 2014/11/29-30
MOTORSPORT : WORLD ENDURANCE CHAMPIONSHIP - WEC - 6 HOURS OF SAO PAULO - ROUND 8 - INTERLAGOS (BRA) 2014/11/29-30
MOTORSPORT : WORLD ENDURANCE CHAMPIONSHIP - WEC - 6 HOURS OF SAO PAULO - ROUND 8 - INTERLAGOS (BRA) 2014/11/29-30

    CONDOR: THE OTHER BOXER MOTORCYCLE

The rare Swiss-made Condor motorcycle, influenced by BMW and designed for the military.
Unless you’re a military enthusiast or a Swiss army conscript, you probably haven’t heard of Condor-Werke AG.
It’s one of Europe’s sleeper marques, and started building motorcycles for the Swiss military in 1893. (Yes, that’s a year before Hildebrand & Wolfmüller launched the first true production motorcycle.)
The rare Swiss-made Condor motorcycle, influenced by BMW and designed for the military.
The machine captured here by photographer Marc Schneider is a Condor A580 that rolled off the production line in 1953 in Courfaivre, a small town in the watchmaking canton of Jura. It’s owned by a collector who wishes to remain anonymous, but is happy to share images and a little history.
The similarities between the Condor and contemporary BMWs are obvious. The Condor is not a direct copy, but it’s a bulletproof, well-engineered air-cooled boxer with shaft drive.
The rare Swiss-made Condor motorcycle, influenced by BMW and designed for the military.
The Schweizer Armee coveted the BMWs used by German troops during World War II, so Condor got the job of designing a Swiss equivalent. Blueprinted in 1944, the A580 has telescopic forks, plunger-style rear suspension, hydraulic self-adjusting valve lifters and aluminum cylinder heads. It’s clearly inspired by German flathead boxer models—such as the BMW R71, R6 or R12, and the Zündapp KS600.
The bike we’re looking at here spent a decade in service before being auctioned off. When the 1970s arrived it was locked away, and forgotten till the 21st century.
The rare Swiss-made Condor motorcycle, influenced by BMW and designed for the military.
It’s now been treated to a classy restoration job, but retains some of the battle scars it earned during military service—including a few broken cooling fins on the cylinder heads. The tires are a period-correct Metzeler Block C pattern—hard to come by nowadays, but a neat finishing touch for the restoration.
The subdued military paint is gone, replaced by a red color that Condor used for its civilian models, which sold for twice the price of contemporary BMWs. But the unusual gear ratio reduction lever (below) remains, mounted on the right side of the transmission.
This lever gives the Condor eight gears—four for the street and four for hard terrain, which reduces top speed from around 110 to 50 kph (31 mph).
The rare Swiss-made Condor motorcycle, influenced by BMW and designed for the military.
The Condor may not be the most exotic of classic motorcycles, but it’s virtually indestructible. And who doesn’t like the idea of an older bike that won’t break down every five minutes, and is simple to maintain?
Maybe it’s time to start trawling the classifieds in Zürich and Geneva.
    With thanks to Marc Schneider.

Tom’s Cats purred only on the podium

In an attempt to replicate the racing glory enjoyed with the D-type in the 1950s, the 1980s saw Jaguar enlist the services of Tom Walkinshaw Racing to control its sportscar programme – with much success. A trio of these TWR Jaguar racers is now for sale…

The XJR racing prototype programme began in 1983 with the XJR-5, built with Jaguar’s backing by American outfit Group 44 Racing for the IMSA Grand Touring Prototypes series. Once established here, Jaguar handed the factory-backed baton to Tom Walkinshaw Racing, a British team with which it had previously collaborated in several Touring Car Championships. The first fruit of their partnership, the XJR-6, arrived mid-way through the 1985 season in both the WSCC and IMSA Championships, and its successors were to cover Jaguar in glory that spanned far further afield than outright wins at Le Mans.

    1988 XJR-9

Using a similar production-based V12 engine to its predecessors, the XJR-9 to be sold by RM Auctions at its 2015 Amelia Island sale in March – chassis 388 – was built to IMSA specification for the 1988 season. Following super-successful results both this year and the next, it was converted to XJR-12 specification for the 1990 season, in which it famously won the 24 Hours of Daytona.

Further strengthening its appeal, chassis 388 is the sole remaining XJR-9 to be built by the factory in IMSA specification.

    1989 XJR-10

Having used the production-derived V12 since taking on the XJR project, 1989 saw TWR move to a lighter, more modern turbocharged V6 to better capitalise on the rule changes in the WSCC and IMSA Championships. Another car built specifically for the latter series’ requirements, the XJR-10 currently being offered by UK-based dealer Taylor & Crawley – chassis 389, proved this new set-up right from the off. After lining up on the front row at Lime Rock, it finished in second place, just eight seconds behind the winner. The car’s stellar performances subsequently contributed towards Jaguar’s second-placed manufacturer standings in both the 1989 and 1990 IMSA Championships.

    1990 XJR-12

A Group C Jaguar in Silk Cut livery is one of the most memorable images in motorsport history. After a brief spell with the turbocharged V6s, more rule changes dictated that TWR reverted to the old V12, which had in any case proved more robust across the long distances of Daytona and Le Mans. Chassis 12-C-190 – also currently for sale through Taylor and Crawley – was one of only two brand-new XJR-12s built for 1990; the remainder were updated XJR-9s. The fastest Jaguar on the grid at Le Mans that year, the car in question would ultimately retire a few hours before the finish, leaving its drivers to look on as its sister car took overall victory. It would compete in several more endurance races in subsequent years, before being consigned to the TWR museum.
Tom Walkinshaw’s outfit eventually folded in 2002, but its glorious ground-effect years will be forever etched into Jaguar’s rich racing history.

    SOULMOTO – EL CHUPACABRA

    SOULMOTO – EL CHUPACABRA 8
Even in today’s fully networked, surveillanced world, many countries and cultures have mythical creatures said to roam deep in forests or lakes. Only seen in brief glimpses, they always seem to be captured on something with the photographic capability of a Kodak Brownie dropped in treacle. The US has Bigfoot, Scotland, the Loch Ness Monster and England has the fearsome School-Run-Mums. Puerto-Rico spawned the reptilian Chupacabra, or “goat sucker” as it amusingly translates. Purportedly a heavy set creature the size of a bear, it has a penchant for drinking the blood of livestock and perhaps weary tourists. A row of spikes from nose to tail down it’s back and some big ‘ol googly eyes round out it’s apparent appearance. Yet this gruesome sounding creature lends it’s name to this stunning neo-classic Ducati cafe racer built by SoulMoto.
    SOULMOTO – EL CHUPACABRA 5
SoulMoto was founded by Jens Abel, a man with so much creativity running through his blood there are simply not enough outlets in this world. Not content with his work as video and lighting technician for a theatre company, his spare time is filled with photography, creating music and of course riding, building and living motorcycles. A quarter century spent riding every bike under the sun, Ducatis made a big mark on Jens’s mind. First a 900ss then a 916, 20 years later it was the air cooled bike that found it’s way back into the garage. After a thorough service it was soon put to work in it’s natural habitat, rumbling around the Alps, Dolomites and Tyrols; and barely anything fell off! Bliss. With a smile on his face, back in Stuttgart ideas were forming and Jens woke the next morning knowing what had to be done. The bike was soon in bits…
    SOULMOTO – EL CHUPACABRA 4

Chassis and engine were completely torn down. Knowing he had the support of his boss to use workshop facilities, this was going to be more than a quick spit and polish. With the engine in pieces and assessed, the top end received a thorough going over. New piston rings, rebuilt heads and polished ports smooth the air flow. The carbs were swapped out for a pair of Kehin FCRs transforming the bike’s fueling, says Jens. With the airbox removed and running open bellmouths, a battery box was fabricated in it’s place to hold the tiny 700g LiPo snugly. The flywheel was replaced with a superlight aluminium item for a snappier response on the twisties. It’s easy to understand why the bike wears a set of Michelin Pilot Race tyres; be sure that this Duc gets used as Miguel Galuzzi intended.
    SOULMOTO – EL CHUPACABRA 3

The electrical system was built from scratch to be as simple as possible but implement some great functionality. The cockpit is a tech-fest featuring both a Motoscope multifunction digital speedo and a Samsung Tablet for, well basically anything you need; Satnav, telemetry, maybe a movie. Handlebar switches have also been replaced with minimalist items. Lighting is taken care of by a hefty projector bulb at the front peeking asymmetrically through the fairing, and looking wonderfully endurance-bike-like. A tiny LED strip tucked under the seat hump at the rear provides lighting and braking duties, whilst still somehow conforming to TUV standards. An Ignitech Ignition system provides a solid reliable spark, taking away the uncertainty of those early 90’s electrics.
    SOULMOTO – EL CHUPACABRA 2
To match the go, now came some serious show. A classic 70’s Ducati style fairing was mounted to the front on custom bracketry. The melding of different decades of styling works extremely effectively and is tied together by the metallic flecked satin green paint and subtle pinstriping. The rear subframe was completely revised and a classic cafe-style seat unit hovers beautifully above the trellis frame, matching the shadow gap of the tank. Rear indicators were buried in the end of the frame tubes and are looked down upon by an illuminated ‘DESMO’ cutout in the seat base. The seat itself has been covered in brown tuck and roll suede, contrasting the paintwork beautifully. Whilst a short carbon fibre front mudguard sits slinkily above the powdercoated original 3-spoke wheels.
    SOULMOTO – EL CHUPACABRA 1
Stainless brake lines front and rear firm the brakes up, and have been linked up to matching Brembo Radial master brake and clutch cylinders. The calipers have been stripped and painted silver to take the gold quotient down a little. Suspension was rebuilt and given a freshen up but didn’t require major surgery, the bike carries itself well as is. Other little touches about the bike include the bar-end mirrors coupled with Motogadget Cone indicators. These final touches bring the whole bike together and give a smattering of everyday function. The engine looks fantastically mechanical in it’s raw finish sitting in the powdercoated trellis frame. The brushed rather than polished or painted finish is a great contrast.
    SOULMOTO – EL CHUPACABRA 7
With the finish line in sight, the 2014 Glemseck 101 was the target. After a frantic last night, finishing the electrics and setting up the carbs, the bike was wheeled out on the Saturday morning ready to go. Jens lives just 10km from the show and for 9km the bike behaved beautifully… Thanks to the Motoscope dash he could see the voltage dropping, bit by bit. The bike started to misfire and eventually coughed it’s last. So close! A quick backie on his friend Rene’s Vespa got him to the show where the Stuttgart Ducati Riders and Andy from Desmo Fellbach offered help and advice. A missing ground cable from the regulator turned out to be culprit and a glourious 13.4V was soon charging through the circuit. She’s been faultless since and according to Jens feels like a new bike.
    SOULMOTO – EL CHUPACABRA 9
With 85 Italian stallions on tap and weighing a lithe 170kg, the Chupacabra should be a riot on any road; Autobahn to Alpine pass. After 14 months of work and toil, the stunning results speak for themselves. So maybe keep an eye out for this mythical beast roaming the roads of Southern Germany, though thankfully for us it’s been captured in glorious HD. Remember to click on the pictures for a closer look, it’s truly worth your time.

    DTM : MERCEDES-BENZ AVEC HUIT VOITURES EN 2015 !

    _88Y5982
    via Thomas Criqui (http://www.dtmlive.com)
