Le Shakedown du Tour de Corse 2015 a été remporté par Robert Kubica (Ford) devant Kris Meeke (Citroën, +0s8) et Jari-Matti Latvala (VW, +1s3) sur des routes détrempées. Des conditions pluvieuses qui devraient accompagner les concurrents sur tout le début de rallye.
A 7h15, il faisait à peine jour sur Corte quand les premières WRC ont quitté le parc d’assistance pour le Shakedown tracé à quelques kilomètres de l’aérodrome. La spéciale (3,88 km), toute en montée jusqu’à Poggio di Venaco, avait un profil plutôt rapide une fois passées les deux premières épingles.
Comme prévu, il a plu toute la nuit sur la Corse. Les routes sont détrempées et les motor-homes sont d’ores et déjà enlisés au parc d’assistance ! A 7h30, quand Sébastien Ogier s’est élancé dans le Shakedown, les sommets du Cortenais étaient encore enveloppés dans une brume épaisse, mais la pluie avait cessé.
Le premier run a été remporté par Robert Kubica (Ford), parti en 2e position. Le Polonais a signé un 2min24s3 et laissé ses poursuivants immédiats, Thierry Neuville et Dani Sordo (Hyundai) à près d’une seconde. Le triple champion du monde a conclu à 4s4 (10e temps). Réveil brutal pour Ott Tanak (Ford) avec un tête-à-queue.
Robert Kubica a gardé la main dans le second run avec 2min20s5 (1s/kil plus vite !). Sébastien Ogier a terminé à une seconde, ex-aequo avec Kris Meeke (Citroën). Puis le Polonais a encore amélioré à son troisième passage pour remporter ce Shakedown pluvieux en 2min19s0. Les chronos ont ensuite commence à augmenter, sur des routes souillées.
Kris Meeke (Citroën) est parvenu à s’approcher à moins d’une seconde de Kubica (+0s8). Sébastien Ogier (VW) a signé le 4e meilleur chrono devant Dani Sordo (Hyundai), Mads Ostberg (Citroën), Kevin Abbring (Hyundai), Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) et Andreas Mikkelsen (VW) tous groupés en 8/10e de seconde.
Jari-Matti Latvala (VW), Elfyn Evans (Ford), Hayden Paddon (Hyundai) ont terminé en 2min22s, devant Stéphane Lefebvre (Citroën, 2min23s7). Ott Tanak (Ford), Martin Prokop (Ford), Stéphane Sarrazin (Ford) et Bryan Bouffier (Ford) n’ont pu passer en-dessous des 2min24s.
En WRC-2, Craig Breen (Peugeot) et Eric Camilli (Ford) ont signé les deux meilleurs chronos après deux runs.
Les conditions devraient rester très humides demain pour la première étape. La pluie pourrait cesser dans l’après-midi, mais les routes des ES2 et 3 devraient être encore très humides.
Les concurrents vont désormais prendre la direction d’Ajaccio pour la cérémonie de départ Place du Général De Gaulle en fin d’après-midi.
The fastest driver on the 2015 Tour de Corse shakedown was Robert Kubica (Ford) who revelled in the rain to finish clear of Kris Meeke (Citroën, +0.8s) and Jari-Matti Latvala (VW, +1s3). Competitors are likely to face the same wet conditions during the early part of the rally.
Daylight was just breaking at 7:15am as the first WRC crews pulled out of the service park in Corte for the short drive to the shakedown stage. The sample test took the form of 3.88km climb from Poggio di Venaco which was quite fast once past the first two hairpins.
As predicted, there was heavy rain overnight in Corsica, so the conditions are consequently very wet this morning and several trucks and motorhomes have sunk into the soft ground! When Sébastien Ogier started the shakedown stage at 7:30am, the surrounding mountains were covered in thick fog, but the rain had stopped.
Fastest after the first runs was Robert Kubica (Ford, 2m24.3s) who was second off the line to beat early chasers Thierry Neuville and Dani Sordo (Hyundai) by almost a second. Ogier was 10that this point (+4.4s), while Ott Tanak (Ford) reported a spin.
Kubica improved by a second per kilometre on his next run (2m20.5s), this time tailed by Ogier and Kris Meeke (Citroën) who posted identical efforts. The Pole’s third attempt saw him lower the benchmark to 2m19.0s before times started to rise again as the conditions became muddier.
Meeke (Citroën) managed to close the gap to Kubica to 0.8s, while Ogier (VW) ended up fourth, ahead of Sordo (Hyundai), Mads Ostberg (Citroën), Kevin Abbring (Hyundai), Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) and Andreas Mikkelsen (VW) who were covered by eight-tenths.
Elfyn Evans (Ford), and Hayden Paddon (Hyundai) finished in the 2m22s bracket, followed by Stéphane Lefebvre (Citroën, 2m23.7s). Ott Tanak (Ford), Martin Prokop (Ford), Stéphane Sarrazin (Ford) and Bryan Bouffier (Ford) all failed to get beneath the 2m24s mark.
In WRC2, the best times were posted by Craig Breen (Peugeot) and Eric Camilli (Ford) after two runs.
The conditions are expected to remain wet for Friday’s action, even if the rain eases up this afternoon.
Crews will now drive south to Ajaccio for this afternoon’s ceremonial start.
