Citroën a annoncé son retour officiel en Championnat du monde des Rallyes FIA à partir de 2017, mais ne disputera pas la saison WRC 2016 pour se concentrer sur le développement de sa future World Rally Car.
Vice-champion du monde des Rallyes FIA 2015, Citroën Racing a dévoilé aujourd’hui ses orientations sportives pour 2016 et 2017.
Entre le WTCC et le WRC, Citroën a tranché pour un retour officiel en Championnat du monde des Rallyes FIA à partir de 2017.
« Avec huit titres et 94 victoires, Citroën a connu tant de succès en WRC », a rappelé Linda Jackson, Directrice de la marque Citroën. « Le rallye est une discipline fantastique, en plein essor comme l’indique la couverture télé, l’arrivée de la Chine au calendrier et l’apparition de nouvelles voitures en 2017. »
En contrepartie, la marque fera l’impasse sur le WRC 2016, une année qu’elle consacrera exclusivement au développement de la future World Rally Car. Citroën sera tout de même présent en rallye avec le championnat Junior et le programme WRC-2 de Quentin Gilbert.
Par ailleurs, Citroën poursuivra son engagement en WTCC en 2016, mais avec deux C-Elysée officielles pour Jose-Maria Lopez et Yvan Muller.
Sébastien Loeb reste dans le Groupe PSA Peugeot-Citroën. Le nonuple champion du monde a signé un contrat en Rallye-Tout-Terrain avec Peugeot Sport et ne disputera pas que le Rallye Dakar sur une Peugeot 2008 DKR/Michelin. Sébastien pourrait participer au développement de la future World Rally Car.
Citroën has announced its return to the FIA World Rally Championship as a factory team in 2017. However, it will sit out the 2016 season in order to focus on the development of its next-generation World Rally Car.
Just days after clinching the 2015 FIA WRC’s runner-up honours in Wales, Citroën Racing has announced its motorsport programme for 2016 and, more significantly, 2017 when it will return to rallying’s premier series as a factory team.
“Citroën has enjoyed so much success in the WRC over the years, with a score of eight world titles and 94 victories,” says Linda Jackson, director of the Citroën brand. “Rallying is a fantastic sport which is growing fast at the moment thanks to strong TV coverage, the addition of a round in China and the introduction of new cars in 2017.”
That said, the make has decided to sit out the 2016 championship in order to concentrate on the development of a new 2017-spec World Rally Car. In 2016, it will continue its involvement in the Junior world championship and in Quentin Gilbert’s WRC2 programme.
At the same time, Citroën will continue to be active in the World Touring Car Championship in 2016, but with just two factory C-Elysées for Jose-Maria Lopez and Yvan Muller.
Sébastien Loeb will remain in the Groupe PSA Peugeot-Citroën camp, since the nine-time world rally champion has signed up for Peugeot Sport’s cross-country rally programme. As a result, January’s Dakar won’t be his only outing in the Peugeot 2008 DKR/Michelin. Sébastien might also contribute to the development of Citroën’s next World Rally Car.
