BMW’s new R nineT scrambles to attract youthful McQueen-ites
At the 2015 EICMA motorcycle show in Milan, BMW Motorrad revealed a new version of its R nineT. While the original took inspiration from café racers, the latest iteration incorporates cues from another type of cult classic: the scrambler…
Based on the boxer-engined R nineT, the Scrambler boasts a feature set that harks back to the dirt bikes that became a status symbol of youthful rebellion in the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s. This includes circular headlamps, a high-mounted ‘two-in-one’ exhaust, long-travel suspension and a reconfigured seating position for a more relaxed posture – although further customisation is positively encouraged, hence the modular rear frame, slew of official accessories, and sole colour option of matte silver with a brown leather saddle.
