La Thaïlande, nouveau défi pour les pilotes World Supersport / Thailand new challenge for the World Supersport riders

Jules Cluzel, MV Agusta Reparto Corse, Phillip Island FP2

Several local riders to contest the second round of the season.

The World Supersport Championship heads to Thailand for the second round with Frenchman Jules Cluzel (MV Agusta Reparto Corse) heading the standings after his lights to flag win in Australia.
Cluzel's teammate Lorenzo Zanetti will be looking to maintain his strong start to the season aboard the second factory MV Agusta F3 675, while former Champion Kenan Sofuoglu (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) will be hoping to show his true pace after finishing 6thin Phillip Island following a run off track in the early stages of the first race of the year.
The fight for the podium could be even closer than the battle between Gino Rea (CIA Landlords Insurance Honda) and Kyle Smith (Pata Honda World Supersport) in the opening encounter, with several other riders looking capable of mounting a serious threat. And with the added unknown factor of a new circuit for everyone, Sunday's race could well spring some surprises.
Local rider Ratthapark Wilairot has already expressed his pride at being able to race on home turf for the very first time. His front-running potential could well have the local fans cheering come the chequered flag on Sunday. The 26-year-old from Chonburi will be joined by four fellow Thai riders: Moto2 full-timer Thitipong Warokorn and Ratthapark’s brother Ratthapong Wilairot (A.P.Honda Racing Thailand) and the Yamaha Thailand Racing Team’s duo of Decha Kraisart and Chalermpol Polamai.

    Fiat 500: Speed of Sunshine

The Fiat 500 has a long history spanning generations and spanning oceans. One particular Fiat, a Fiat 500D, has made its way over the last 49 years into the care of Annetta Calisi. After being attained in pieces, it was meticulously restored daily over a period of four months. Annetta and her Fiat, Luigi, could not be a better pair, and the lines between the past and the present fade as they both dress the part for every tiny journey they share.

    1983 KAWASAKI Z 550 F ITALIAN CAFE RACER PROJECT

1983 Kawasaki Z550 Cafe Racer by Manuele Spadoni 1

A publication schedule was delayed. Italian is a language that is slightly difficult for me to understand. And I have to say sorry for it. On this occasion, there were some colleagues who are trying to help “translate an artistic taste of the Italian”. Holidays are a great time to relax, but there are not many people here who stopped working at weekends. Let’s grab a cup of coffee and began to talk about motorcycles.

It is a ’83 Kawasaki Z 550 F comes from one of our Italian readers. Manuele Spadoni, He comes from Mordano, is a town and comune in Emilia Romagna. Situated in the province of Bologna, in Italy. Manuele says this is the second project after a special based on ’85 Honda XL 600 LM Dakar.

I am a guy who works as a laborer in a mechanical company for a few years. I used to work in a team of racing cars and still having that passion and not having the space to work on the machines. Now in my spare time, I like to work in the bike in my garage.
1983 Kawasaki Z550 Cafe Racer by Manuele Spadoni 3
After success in the first project for the ’85 Honda XL 600 Custom. Now I think to make a second project. This is a used bike that I bought from a neighbor near my house. After thinking for a concept, in my opinion Cafe Raceris a concept that is closest to this bike. But still think the shape and style, which is slightly different.

Several things that will distract you. The tank is made of carbon with the electric fuel pump of a fiat 500 and located under the engine block. The bodywork custom crafted monocoque, made of fiberglass with saddle leather hides all the electrical system. Redesigned and simplified.

Some of the hard work is in redesigning parts of the frame. The frame under the saddle was cut and reconstructed in collaboration with Totti Motori. He is the right person (my mentor), his expertise is restoring what other people say “It’s difficult”. Classic taste, is typical of what he has.

If you speak some aspects that should be considered when making this bike. The main ingredients and the most striking, to mix this bike Manuele Spadoni use a lot of fiberglass material. In addition to the bodywork parts, you can also find it on the front and rear fenders.

Concerns when building this bike is a mechanical device that engages and disengages the power transmission, especially from driving shaft to driven shaft. The clutch was previously mechanic now is using hydraulic drive. Hydraulically actuated clutches tend to be self-adjusting, as long as there is enough fluid in the reservoir.

On the handlebar, when talking about Cafe Racer maybe some people might think to directly buy a clip-on handlebar and install it without wasting time. For this Kawasaki, Manuele Spadoni has a very different idea. Want to look like a board track racing, Manuele Spadoni prefer to use the model of bicycle handlebar.

So much detail that you can see on this bike, the two sides of the front discs are handmade, decorated with Brembo caliper and holder are all made of aluminum. For the rear brake lever, made longer and of course this is a handmade. You have to say “Priceless!”

The special 4-2-2 exhaust system was developed and has been realized by Andrea Foschini specialized in the production of mufflers and exhausts, Fuské an artisanal from Faenza. The exhaust system uses two tapered end that doesn’t promise a ‘sound’ too quiet.

Next we will discuss the parts of the engine. Kawasaki Z 550 F is a transverse-mounted air-cooled 4-cylinder DOHC (Double Over Head Cam) engine. Not much to do in this section, but the cleanliness and some functions have been normalized. The engine block was painted black and blasted.

Carries a minimalist design, the dashboard using a classic Motoscope of Motogadget. Also there are some interesting things! The ignition switch, the oil pump on-off switch, and a few additional instruments are placed at the bottom of the tank.

For the painting, done by a local painting company named Veper. The company is located in San Giovanni in Persiceto, Province of Bologna, northern Italy. What is the selection of colors and concepts? Mate black for the frame, while the bodywork with Kawasaki green color and pearly white.

Any ugly duckling has hidden somewhere genes of a beautiful swan. Sometimes hidden deeper, sometimes not very. You just know how and where to Mai Tai. Manuele Spadoni got a ’83 Kawasaki Z 550 F and turned it into a beautiful replica motorcycles racing in the late 70s.

The bike was in the bike show in the final of the Italian Motorcycle Championship biker fest in Lignano Sabbiadoro and winning the first place of the category “Metric”, also won the bike show in Cesena in 2015 in the same category. In closing, Manuele said “I hope to continue to make fun of motorcycles in my spare time!”.

Snapshot, 1976: A rare bird touches down in Rio

The Cariocas (or natives of Rio de Janeiro, in case you're unfamiliar with the term), are an unflappable bunch, as a rule. But in 1976, a rare bird spread its wings above the famous Christ the Redeemer statue, stirring the inhabitants below into a frenzy of awe…
On 21 January 1976, two Concordes simultaneously completed their maiden journeys out of Europe: the British Airways machine flew from London to Bahrain, while its Air France sister streaked from Paris to Rio, via Dakar. Twice a week, the supersonic bird left Paris’s Charles de Gaulle airport en route to Brazil, a journey that took just over 11 hours. One of the flight’s most prominent passengers was James Bond, who completed the cross-continental ‘hop’ over to Rio in the 1979 film Moonraker. However, the glamorous connection wasn’t as popular as Air France predicted, and was discontinued in 1982.
