Rallye des PHARAONS , day4 : Balooshi looses his leadership, Al Attiyah is already looking at the Pyramids

TIBNIYA – The second to the last stage of Pharaons Rally has run over the same track of the second stage, due to the discovery of an archeological site few days before the start of the race. Over a track almost all traced by the passage of the second day, navigation was not playing a dominant role, but in spite of this, surprises were not missing. Mainly among the bikes, with the classification leader Mohammed Al Balooshi (KTM: he has made the same mistake of two days ago, so he’s lost much time before getting back on the right track.
The leg has gone to the Bolivian Chavo Salvatierra (KTM) leaving few attention to the navigation and - even if he opened the track as in the previous days - he has made the difference compared to his competitors.
Salvatierra has preceded by 3’55’’ the Polish Jakub Piatek that has gained - with his second place today - the leadership of the general classification with an advantage of 2’38’’ over Salvatierra. Balooshi is third at 3'04'' Fourth place to Diocleziano Toia, in spite of a fall that has injured his shoulder. Compelled to withdraw is Paolo Sabbatucci, taken back at the bivouac by helicopter with a fracture at his left radius.
Among the quads also today Mohammed Abu Issa has managed to be faster than Rafal Sonik, preceding the Polish by almost eight minutes. In general they have now almost twelve minutes gap, that the Qatarian pilots will try to manage tomorrow in the last stage.
Also among the cars the race has found its feature that seems almost definitive: with the victory of today, the first at 2105 Pharaons Rally, Nasser Al Attiyah has increased his advantage in the general ranking, taking advantage also of a no day of the Saudi Yazeed Al Rajhi. Only fourth today, Yazeed has been overtaken in the classification also by the Russian Vladimir Vasilyev, third at the stage, who is ten minutes behind Al Attiyah. Great stage instead for the Brazilian Reinaldo Varela, second at 1’40’’ from the winner and fourth in the general classification.
Accident for the Mini of Adam Malysz, that has overturned at kilometre 80 after having bumped into a rock. They couldn’t start again due to an engine problem.
    khneisser-kuzmich
The class T2 has been won today by Emil Khneisser (Nissan), while the Peruvian Raul “Mono” Orlandini has excelled in T3.
Tomorrow the last stage of the Pharaons will take the “survivors” in front of the Giza Pyramids, for the deserved and thrilling end of the 2015 edition: a scheduled special of 339 kilometres and the final transfer of 81 to reach the tombs of the Pharaons.
    dabrowski-czachor
Juan Carlos Salvatierra (BOL – KTM): “Today I have finally done my race, considered that the stage was the same of the day before yesterday. I have pushed hard since the beginning, after thirty kilometers I have overtaken Abu Issa and I’ve driven solo up to the end.”
Mohammed Al Balooshi: (ARE – KTM): “Unbelievable, I have done today the same mistake of two days ago, taking a wrong cap. I’ve taken long to find again the route and I’ve lost the leadership in the classification. Anyway let’s try to finish well the Pharaons Rally, that has been a fantastic experience.”
    stefano chiussi
Stefano Chiussi (ITA – Husqvarna): “I’ve started calm, having 34 minutes of advantage on the second of my class. At kilometer 25 I have had a breakdown to my rear tank and I had to stop to repair it. So Lecis has retaken me and we then drove together up to CP2 with beautiful passages among the cathedral dunes. The last 80 kilometres have risen the rythm and I really had good fun gapping the Latvian by 7 minutes. I’ve pushed my Husqvarna to the limit, a bike in progress.”
Dario de Lorenzo (ITA – Toyota): “Today I had really good fun. To do twice the same stage has given me more confidence among the dunes and it has been a real vision. All has gone in the right way, the car has responded well and it took me one hour less compared to the timing of the second day.”
Nasser Al Attiyah (QAT - Mini) : “The plan was to catch Yazeed and win more than two minutes on him, but at km 25 we had a puncture and we lost less than two minutes. After we pushed to get back the time and we overtook him at CP1. It was a very fast stage because we already knew the track. Today’s time was 16 minutes faster than two days ago. Tomorrow we just try to do our job!”
Reinaldo Varela (BTA – Toyota): “It was much easier from the navigation point of view. We pushed as much as we could. It’s our first time with this car and we know it better and better every kilometer.”
Vladimir Vasilyev (RUS – Mini): “It was a good stage without mistakes. The bumpy road was hard for the body but we had a good fight with Varela. We just let him pass and then we followed him. This race is really special because the battle is quite hard and the differences are small, compared to other rallies. It’s very interesting and exciting.”
Sven Quandt (Mini Team Manager): “ About Malysz accident I can only say that they rolled, but driver and co-driver are ok. They are on their way back to the bivouac.”
Yazeed Al Rajhi (SAU – Toyota): “At the CP1 we pushed like hell but after we couldn’t find a waypoint and it took 1.5 minutes to get it. Then we pushed again but it seems it was not our stage.”

    Changes in the bikes results

After the mistake in the coordinates of the waypoint at km 261,60, the International Jury took the decision to neutralize the time between the previous and the following waypoints, corresponding with km 244.310 and 268.950. According to the new results, Mohammed Al Balooshi wins the stage with 1’24’’ lead over Jakub Piatek. Diocleziano Toia loses the leadership of the stage and is now third with 2’36’’ behind Balooshi. Quad rider Mohammed Abu Issa wins the stage ahead of Rafael Sonik. The change in the results leads to a new overall ranking with Balooshi leading over Piatek (2) and Salvatierra (3). Abu Issa has secured his lead over Sonik with 4 minutes difference.

GP de France : Le meilleur temps et une chute pour Bradley Smith / Smith sets surprising pace on the first day of #FrenchGP

The British rider puts in the best time of the day during MotoGP™ Free Practice.
The surprise of the day at the Monster Energy Grand Prix de France came from Bradley Smith (Monster Yamaha Tech 3), who in FP2 was the fastest of the day with a 1'34.179 lap.
While all the riders improved on their morning times in FP2, Smith seemed to be inspired - either by the fact that it was the home race for his French team, or by the equally impressive performance of his compatriot Danny Kent in Moto3™.
British fans have dreamed of a day dominated by Brit riders and this was the closest we have come in a while, only missing Sam Lowes at the top of the time sheets in Moto2™.
After a great weekend in Jerez, Jorge Lorenzo achieved the second best time after a consistently fast session, with Andrea Dovizioso third. The Italian had been first in FP1, perhaps trying to set the stage for Ducati victory at Le Mans - something that has never happened before.
Cal Crutchlow (CWM-LCR Honda) was fourth in both sessions of the day, while in fifth position on the combined times list was MotoGP World Champion Marc Márquez, who spent the morning trying different solutions such as the swingarm which premiered at the recent test at Jerez. At the beginning of the session he suffered an electrical problem that forced him to walk back to the pits.
The current championship leader Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP), ended in sixth place, only one place above the newly-returned Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda Team), who makes a comeback this weekend after his arm pump problems forced a temporary withdrawal since the first race of the year in Qatar.
Pol Espargaró (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) and his brother Aleix (Team Suzuki Ecstar) ended the day together, in eighth and ninth positions respectively. Pol had a great weekend at Le Mans last year as a rookie, finishing the race in fourth. That combined with the fact that his team mate Smith was fastest today and that this is the local race for his team, means it would not be shocking to see Pol put on a good show on Sunday.
Pol’s brother Aleix was experimenting with different tyre compounds on his GSX-RR during Free Practice. He ended the day ninth and continues the difficult task of racing an all-new machine, testing and setting up his bike for the first time for almost every circuit in the 2015 season.
The second official Ducati Team rider, Andrea Iannone, finished in a creditable eleventh. The rider returned to action this week after dislocating his left shoulder on a scheduled test at Mugello.

Valentino Rossi worked hard on his bike settings and finished the day in sixth place.
The nine-time World Champion found his rhythm at the end of the session, where he was riding laps under the 1‘34 mark and climbed to sixth place in the order.
Rossi: "We worked with the tyres and got some good information. The morning session was more difficult but in the afternoon we improved. At the end, I rode a good lap time and also my pace is quite good. We have to work on section one and three, I‘m not fast enough, but the feeling with the bike is not so bad and it looks like we can improve, if we work in a good way. I tried both tyres and I also liked the harder one. I think it can be a good option for the race, but it will depend on the temperature and conditions."

Movistar Yamaha MotoGP‘s Jorge Lorenzo was on the pace today, leading most of the second free practice session to ultimately finish 2nd.
The Spaniard only took a couple of minutes to top the timesheets with a hot lap of 1‘33.369 and led most of the session, only to get pushed to second place in the final stages.
Lorenzo: "The first day was good because we finished third in the morning and second in the afternoon, these are good positions. I think we don‘t have the best set-up yet for this track, but we‘ve still been competitive. I believe we have some margin for tomorrow, especially to improve the pace. We are still trying different settings to see which one is better. It will be very important to put the bike together correctly and not drop the pace too much during the race."

Andrea Dovizioso’s Le Mans weekend got off to a good start, with the Italian ending the first day of free practice in third place.
The Ducati Team rider was very quick in the morning session, when he topped the timesheets, and then in FP2 he went on to set the third quickest time overall.
Dovizioso: “I am very happy with the feeling I have established with my Desmosedici GP15 here at Le Mans. The test at Mugello proved to be really useful: now I can be quick with ease and this allows us to work well, to do the required testing and to be able to improve on the small details that are so important when it comes to the race. I am satisfied with today’s performance, but for sure we still have to work on improving the stability of the bike”.

    Crutchlow: “It’s always tricky here

    with the tyre situation"

Cal Crutchlow posts the fourth quickest time during Friday’s free practice sessions ahead of the French Grand Prix.
With the track having dried out following a damp morning, Crutchlow went over a half a second quicker in the afternoon and ended up 0.473 seconds behind compatriot Bradley Smith who topped the timesheets.
Crutchlow: "Today was not a bad day. I was getting familiarised with the circuit as it’s not one of my better circuits. I quite enjoy the circuit, but I’ve just not particularly ridden too well here. We have to look to improve, we’ll go through the data tonight with the CWM LCR Honda guys and work out a plan to do better in tomorrow’s morning and afternoon sessions.
“It’s always tricky here with the tyre situation as we use a used rear tyre in the second free practice and I think we’re on a different plan to the other guys. But it worked quite well as we had race distance on the tyres and I’m quite happy.”

    SuperMoto : Chareyre vs Hermunen

The European Grand Prix, round three of the FIM Supermoto World Championship, visits Busca, Italy, this week-end.
It promises to produce another close fight between the reigning champion Thomas Chareyre (TM -Michelin) and his challenger, Mauno Hermunen (SHR – TM).Following his assertive double win three weeks ago in Italy, Thomas Chareyre is three points clear of the Finn in the 2015 title chase.Hermunen had trouble at the last round after qualifying second behind the Frenchman. A poor start for Race 1 meant he had to settle for fifth at the flag. Then, in Race 2, an error cost him any chance of victory and he ended up second.Third in the championship is Ivan Lazzarini (L30 Racing - Honda) who will be on home soil again. He will face opposition from the young Lukas Hoellbacher (Husqvarna) who trails him by just three points. The Austrian has started the season well with three podium finishes from four starts.Pavel Kejmar (Husqvarna) is fifth after coming second and fourth at the last meeting and is another likely challenger for a top-three result

The Mini That’s Not Really A Mini

    b

    y

Nothing is as it seems at Gatebil. One thing you can be certain of however is that pretty much every car there might as well deserve its very own feature. I have never come across an event quite like it and I felt like a child in a candy store when it came to picking what cars to concentrate on. But one that was high on my list of priorities even before getting to Rudskogen was the Mini Quattro. It wasn’t until I checked the car over in the paddock and talked to its creator that I realized this was even less of a Mini that the name actually suggested, yet even more of an extreme car that I initially imagined.
You see, under the Mini-like cladding, is a completely bespoke spaceframe chassis that was built around the adapted AWD driveline from an Audi A3. Is this beginning to sound crazy enough? Not at all, it’s just your typical Gatebil find of course!
But before we get to the oily bits lets concentrate on the exterior, pretty much the only aspect of the build that bares any resemblance to the Mini it’s named after. Utilizing a fiberglass Monte Carlo wide body from UK Mini specialist Z-Cars, the Mini Quattro boasts massively flared arches, lightweight doors, easy to remove front and rear sections and lexan glass all round.
Due to some unexpected misfiring issues throughout the weekend the Mini Quattro was unable to spend much time on track but when it did it certainly looked like no other Mini I, or most people at the event had ever seen. To see a little car like this shoot out of corners with such fierce acceleration looked almost unnatural, sort of like seeing a remote control car defy physics!
While traction is phenomenal with all four wheels putting power down, you can never have too much stability and downforce at speed, which is where the large rear adjustable spoiler…
    …and diffuser come in.
The stubby front end may not be the most adapt shape for penetrating through the air efficiently, but when you have raw power, who cares about aerodynamics! To generate some front downforce, a little protruding lip was bolted in place and further secured by two DTM-style splitter holders.
This car doesn’t really try to hide the fact that it’s sporting some obvious links to Audi…
…something that became easily visible once the owner removed the tiny hood that barely fits over the motor!
Considering there is so little space within the custom tubular frame, it’s pretty incredible that everything managed to fit! The engine, along with the complete AWD driveline was lifted out of a 1999 Audi A3 1.8 Turbo, adapted and swapped over into the Mini. Needless to say a ton of work was required to make everything function properly…
…which started with a bit of tuning. The donor engine was taken apart and fitted with a billet crankshaft from a 1996 model Audi A3, deemed stronger and therefore more reliable to accept the higher boost levels the upgraded turbo would deliver. Joining it are a set of Verdi connecting rods and some custom made pistons. With the exhaust side of the engine towards the firewall, it meant there was very little space to play with when fabricating the exhaust manifold onto which both the turbocharger…
