Based on a Norton 750 Commando, this mint-coloured café racer, nicknamed 'Misty Green' by its owner, continues to look fantastic whatever the weather…

The property of Karl Frey from Texas, the stripped-back Norton 750 Commando shown here was built by Fuller Moto – an Atlanta, Georgia-based custom motorcycle workshop. The photos were taken by photographer Matthew Jones shortly before an appearance at the recent Handbuilt Motorcycle Show in Austin, Texas. Named after the weather conditions on the shoot, the bike features 'Norton Green'-coloured highlights on the wheels, tank, seat unit and hand-finished alloy fairing. The exhaust also displays a very clever design. The bike took around two years to complete and was originally inherited from Frey's uncle.

2015 WRC Rally de Portugal ; Mikkelsen remporte le Shakedown / Mikkelsen tops shakedown order

Le Rallye du Portugal 2015 s’est élancé ce matin avec la séance de mise au point remportée par Andreas Mikkelsen au volant de la VW Polo R WRC spec. 2015. Derrière les trois Volkswagen, Ott Tanak et Dani Sordo ont signé le même chrono.

Le Shakedown du Rallye du Portugal 2015 était situé à 40 km du parc de Matosinhos, près de Baltar. La spéciale, longue de 4,63 km, avait été tracée au bulldozer. La piste, large sur une terre compacte, traversait une pinède avant de déboucher sur une piste de karting. Le Rallye du Portugal avait déjà visité ces lieux, en d’autres temps…

Les concurrents WRC ont quitté le parc dès l’aube pour être à 7h30 au départ de ce Shakedown. L’idée était d’enchaîner trois ou quatre passages avant de rentrer sur Porto. Sauf Mads Ostberg, contraint de revenir à l’assistance après un tonneau à 500 mètres du départ ! De quoi occuper les mécanos de l’équipe Citroën-Total Abu Dhabi toute la matinée…

Sébastien Ogier (VW Polo R WRC) a signé le premier temps de référence en 3min16s6 devant Latvala (3min17s5), Meeke (3min18s5) et Tanak/Sordo ex-aequo (3min18s8). Jari-Matti Latvala a ensuite amélioré en 3min15s3, puis Seb Ogier a repris la « pole » en 3min12s6.

Dans sa quatrième tentative, Andreas Mikkelsen finalement a remporté le Shakedown du Rallye du Portugal 2015 en 3min11s3. Pour son retour en WRC, Robert Kubica a réalisé le 6^e meilleur temps à son 5^e tour, devant Kris Meeke et Hayden Paddon.

En WRC-2, après deux passages, le meilleur chrono avait été réalisé par Nasser Al-Attiyah (Ford) en 3min22s3 devant Pontus Tidemand sur la nouvelle Skoda Fabia R5 (3min23s9) et Stéphane Lefebvre (Citroën) en 3min25s8.

Après les traditionnelles conférences de presse, les concurrents vont prendre la direction de Guimaraes en début d’après-midi pour la cérémonie de départ, avant la Superspéciale de Lousada à partir de 19h00.

The 2015 Rally de Portugal got underway this morning with the shakedown session which was won by Andreas Mikkelsen in his 2015-spec Polo R WRC. Ott Tanak and Dani Sordo ended up with identical times behind VW’s trio.

4.63km shakedown stage was near Baltar, around 40km from the Matosinhos service park. The wide, hard-packed test had been formed by a bulldozer and traversed a pine forest before ending next to a karting track. It wasn’t the Portuguese WRC round’s first visit to the place.

The WRC crews pulled out of service at sunrise – 7:30am local time – with the intention of completing three or four passes before returning to Porto. All except Mads Ostberg who headed straight back after rolling 500 metres after the start line! That should keep Citroën-Total Abu Dhabi’s mechanics busy for a while!

Sébastien Ogier (VW Polo R WRC) posted the first benchmark time (3m16.6s), ahead of Latvala (+0.9s), Meeke (+1.9s) and Tanak/Sordo (+2.2s). Elfyn Evans then improved to 3min14s before Ogier recovered top spot with a 3m12.6s.

Mikkelsen produced the best effort of the morning at his fourth attempt, however, with a 3m11.3s. WRC returnee Robert Kubica was sixth fastest after his fifth pass, ahead of Kris Meeke and Hayden Paddon.

After two passes, the WRC2 order was led by Nasser Al-Attiyah (Ford, 3m22.3s), ahead of Pontus Tidemand in the new Skoda Fabia R5 (3m23.9s) and Citroën’s Stéphane Lefebvre (3m25.8s).

Next up is the pre-event press conference before crews head out to Guimaraes for this afternoon’s start ceremony, followed by the Lousada super-special which will start at 7pm.

WRC, Portugal : 18 Juniors pour un titre

Le Championnat du monde Junior 2015 compte désormais 18 engagés. Ce week-end, la deuxième manche s’annonce palpitante entre 15 concurrents représentants 9 nationalités différentes.

La saison mondiale des Juniors a débuté au dernier Rallye Monte-Carlo et cette première manche fut remportée par le Français Quentin Gilbert devant Christian Riedemann et Ole Christian Veiby. Au classement Nation Trophy, la France est leader devant l’Italie et l’Allemagne.

Après une pause de quatre mois, la saison redémarre au Portugal où 15 des 18 inscrits au championnat sont attendus au volant de Citroën DS3 R3T Max chaussées de pneumatiques Michelin. Tous rêvent de succéder à Stéphane Lefebvre et de suivre la même carrière que Sébastien Loeb et Sébastien Ogier, champions du monde Junior en 2001 et 2008.

Quentin Gilbert arrive donc au Portugal en leader de la série. Après une saison 2014 frustrante en WRC-2 et DMack Trophy, le Vosgien espère se relancer cette année. Depuis sa victoire au Monte-Carlo, Quentin a disputé une manche du Trophée Andros et le Rallye d’Epernay.

Cinq autres pilotes tricolores sont engagés au Portugal : Pierre-Louis Loubet (fils de l’ancien pilote officiel Yves Loubet), Jean-René Perry (vainqueur Opel Adam Cup 2014), Matthieu Margaillan (5^e RC2 au Monte-Carlo), Terry Folb (3^e Citroen Racing Junior Trophy 2014) et la seule féminine du championnat, Charlotte Dalmasso.

Le Norvégien Ole Christian Veiby, 3^e Junior au Monte-Carlo et vainqueur WRC-3 en Suède, est un sérieux candidat à la victoire. Le Finlandais Henri Haapamaki avait terminé 3^e WRC-3 au Wales Rally GB 2014 et débute chez les Juniors ce week-end, de même que l’Irlandais Dean Raftery (5^e Ford Fiesta Trophy UK 2014).

Parmi les plus expérimentés, l’Italien Simone Tempestini dispute ce week-end son 11^e rallye de la saison, le Suisse Federico de la Casa participe à sa 3^e saison en WRC-3, le Britannique Osian Pryce (double vice-champion Citroën Racing Trophy UK), l’Irlandais Daniel McKenna qui a disputé sa 10^e saison, ou encore Mohamed Al-Mutawaa, pilote MERC et WRC depuis 2013.

L’Allemand Christian Riedemann (2^e au Monte-Carlo), le Français Yohann Rossel (5^e) et l’Italien Alessandro Re (6^e) n’ont pas nominé le Rallye du Portugal dans leur programme, et seront sans doute de retour au Rally Poland début juillet.

The 2015 Junior World Rally Championship has attracted 18 registered drivers, 15 of whom – representing nine different nationalities – are in Portugal this weekend.

The 2015 JWRC kicked off with January’s Rallye Monte-Carlo which was won by Frenchman Quentin Gilbert, ahead of Christian Riedemann and Ole Christian Veiby. In the Nations Trophy, France leads Italy and Germany.

After a four-month break, competition resumes in Portugal where 15 of the registered drivers will compete in Michelin-equipped Citroën DS3 R3T Maxes. They all dream of following in the footsteps of 2014 winner Stéphane Lefebvre and of enjoying the careers of Sébastien Loeb and Sébastien Ogier who claimed Junior titles in 2001 and 2008.

Frenchman Gilbert tops the provisional standings and hopes to bounce back after frustrating 2014 campaigns in the WRC2 and DMack Trophy. Since his class win on the Monte Carlo, he has contested a Trophée Andros ice race and France’s Rallye d’Epernay.

There will be five other French drivers in Portugal, namely Pierre-Louis Loubet (son of ex-factory driver Yves Loubet), Jean-René Perry (2014 Opel Adam Cup winner), Matthieu Margaillan (5^thin RC2 on the Monte Carlo), Terry Folb (3^rd, 2014 Citroen Racing Junior Trophy) and the entry’s only lady driver Charlotte Dalmasso.

Norway’s Ole Christian Veiby (3^rd JWRC, Monte-Carlo / 1^st WRC3, Sweden) is a favourite, while Finn Henri Haapamaki (3^rd WRC3, 2014 Wales Rally GB) is making his Junior debut this weekend, as is Irishman Dean Raftery (5^th, 2014 Ford Fiesta Trophy UK).

The more experienced drivers are Italian Simone Tempestini (who will be starting his 11^th rally this season), Switzerland’s Federico de la Casa (who is taking part in his third WRC3 season), Briton Osian Pryce (two-time Citroën Racing Trophy UK winner), Irishman Daniel McKenna (in his 10^thseason) and Mohamed Al-Mutawaa (MERC and WRC driver since 2013).

Germany’s Christian Riedemann (2^nd, Rallye Monte-Carlo), Frenchman Yohan Rossel (5^th) and Italian Alessandro Re (6^th) didn’t list Portugal as one of their rounds. They will be back for Poland in July.

BLANCPAIN GT SERIES ; Silverstone : 61 GT3 sur les terres d’Aston Martin, Bentley et McLaren !

 Le plateau de la Blancpain Endurance Series se maintient pour le deuxième meeting de la saison où 61 GT3 sont attendues. Pour la première fois hors 24 Heures de Spa, le plateau est supérieur à 60 GT3. Après une nette domination des GT3 italiennes à Monza où Ferrari et Lamborghini ont fait la nique à la concurrence, les marques britanniques auront à coeur de prendre leur revanche sur leurs terres, à commencer par Bentley. Victorieuse en 2014 dans le Northamptonshire, la Continental GT3 a soif d’un nouveau succès. Il en sera de même pour les McLaren 650S GT3, transparentes à Monza le mois dernier.

Du côté des nouveaux arrivants, on note la présence du BMW Sports Trophy Team Schubert qui une semaine après les 24 Heures du Nürburgring, viendra défier la concurrence avec une BMW Z4 GT3 confiée à Dominik Baumann et Max Sandritter. Dans le camp Audi, les “anciennes” R8 LMS ultra seront mises à contribution. Phoenix Racing remanie totalement l’équipage de la #6 pour faire rouler Marchy Lee, Shaun Tong et Markus Winkelhock. Très en verve en Italie, la Ferrari 458 Italia GT3/Rinaldi Racing voit le renfort de Marco Seefried aux côtés de Norbert Siedler et Rinat Salikhov. A noter que les deux Ferrari du Rinaldi Racing étaient les seules équipées des évolutions 2015. Car Collection  Motorsport fait son arrivée en Pro-Cup avec l’équipage Toril/Heyer/Seyffarth. Chez Saintéloc Racing, Marc Basseng sera aux côtés d’Edward Sandström et Greg Guilvert.

En Pro-Am Cup, le Belgian Audi Club Team WRT modifie son équipage pour faire rouler David Hallyday, Philippe Gaillard et James Nash. Absent à Monza, Jann Mardenborough devrait retrouver le baquet de la Nissan GT-R GT3 NISMO Team RJN #22 en compagnie de Gaëtan Paletou et Ricardo Sanchez.

Pas de grand changement en Am Cup si ce n’est le remplacement de Christian Kelders par Thomas Nicolle chez Classic & Modern Racing pour cause de rallye historique. Claude-Yves Gosselin et Marc Rostan seront quant à eux présents chez Saintéloc Racing  avec Eric Trouillet. L’équipe de Sébastien Chétail aura donc deux Audi en Am-Cup.
