SuperMoto : Thomas Chareyre et Michelin, champions du monde / Thomas Chareyre and Michelin secure 2015 world titles
A l’issue du Grand Prix d’Autriche, dernière épreuve du championnat du monde FIM Supermoto, Thomas Chareyre (TM – Michelin) a enlevé une quatrième couronne mondiale, la deuxième consécutive avec TM et Michelin. A domicile, Lukas Hollbacher (Husqvarna - Michelin) a signé le doublé.
Auteur de la pole position, Thomas Chareyre a géré parfaitement les deux courses pour s’assurer du titre.
Le Français a mené les trois premiers tours de la première manche avant de se faire dépasser par « l’enfant du pays » Lukas Hollbacher, surmotivé par la présence de nombreux fans. L’Autrichien remporte sa deuxième victoire de la saison.
Thomas Chareyre termine à la deuxième place devant son premier rival pour le titre, Ivan Lazzarini (L30 Racing – Honda). Hannes Maier (KTM) et Teo Monticelli (Honda – Michelin) complètent le Top 5.
Thomas Chareyre a pris la tête de la deuxième course et a mené les sept des 12 tours avant de laisser les commandes à Lukas Hollbacher. Quatrième au bout du premier tour, le jeune pilote autrichien a cravaché pour doubler notamment ses compatriotes Hannes Maier et Rudolf Bauer (KTM) et s’offrir le doublé à domicile.
Ne voulant prendre aucun risque, Thomas Chareyre a rétrogradé à la quatrième puis à la cinquième place.
Auteur du doublé lors de la précédente épreuve en Colombie, Pavel Kejmar (Husqvarna) s’est classé deuxième devant Maier et Bauer.
Avec 291 points, Thomas Chareyre est sacré pour la deuxième fois consécutive avec Michelin. C’est le quatrième titre mondial pour le Français.
The last round of the 2015 FIM SuperMoto World Championship in Austria saw Thomas Chareyre (TM-Michelin) claim his fourth world title, and his second in a row with TM and Michelin. Lukas Hollbacher (Husqvarna-Michelin) won both his home races.
After topping qualifying, Thomas Chareyre paced himself perfectly during both Austrian races to clinch the 2015 crown.
The Frenchman led Race 1 for the first three laps before being passed by home star Lukas Hollbacher who was fired up by the local supporters. The Austrian went on to collect his second victory of the season.
Chareyre was second, ahead of his main title rival Ivan Lazzarini (L30 Racing-Honda), Hannes Maier (KTM) and Teo Monticelli (Honda-Michelin).
Chareyre then led the year’s last race for seven of the 12 laps before relinquishing control to Hollbacher once more. The Austrian had been fourth after Lap 1 but fought back to pass compatriots Maier and Rudolf Bauer (KTM) and make it a grand slam weekend.
Chareyre preferred not to take any risks and let himself slip back to fifth at the flag.
Pavel Kejmar (Husqvarna), winner of both Colombian races recently, was second behind Maier and Bauer.
A score of 291 points wrapped up Chareyre’s second straight world title with Michelin and his fourth in total.

Maserati Boomerang goes sky-high at Bonhams’ Chantilly Sale

Mixed messages
Neither of the star Bugattis (the 1938 Type 57 Drophead Coupé or 1954 Type 101C coupé Antem) managed to sell on the night, nor did the 1925 Lorraine-Dietrich B3-6 Le Mans Torpedo Sport, though the latter is arguably the most niche car in the catalogue, perhaps suited to another sale on the calendar.
Of the 29 lots in the sale, 18 were sold, mostly on estimate. As expected, the Maserati Mexico Coupé sold well, achieving €621,000, as did the beautiful 1961 Citroën DS 19 Cabriolet Pre-Series, realising €230,000. The Mercedes-Benz 450SEL in which Claude François was nearly assassinated made €92,000, while the 100th of 100 Morgan Aeromaxes fetched an impressive €172,500. Rémi Dargegen's stunning gallery demonstrates Bonhams’ fantastic presentation – the sale looked to be a show in itself.
UPDATE: Bonhams subsequently sold the 1938 Bugatti Type 57 Drophead Coupé for €1,232,000 (inc. premium), bringing the sale's total gross to €8,545,825.
