FIA WEC / The Toyota TS050 Hybrid breaks cover

Toyota Gazoo Racing has taken the wraps off the TS050 Hybrid/Michelin, a car on which the Japanese make is counting to put it back in contention for FIA WEC success.
After Audi and Porsche, Toyota has revealed its latest LM P1 challenger – the TS050 Hybrid – at Le Castellet, France. The make’s engineers have been working on the newcomer for some time.
Unsurprisingly, the team has switched from the normally-aspirated technology it has campaigned for the past four years to a twin-turbo 2.4-litre petrol V6 with direct fuel injection. It has also dropped its super-capacitor in favour of a lithium-ion battery – like its rivals – to store recovered energy.
Like its predecessor, the Toyota TS050 Hybrid/Michelin features motor-generators on front (Aisin Aw) and rear (Denso) axles and joins the Porsche 919 Hybrid in the 8MJ category. The electric motors are said to produce 500hp which, added to the same figure delivered by the V6, makes a total of 1,000hp.
The chassis has been revised to accommodate all these changes and the sequential gearbox has seven speeds.
The two cars registered for the 2016 FIA WEC will be shared by Davidson/Buemi/Nakajima and Sarrazin/Conway/Kobayashi.
