WRC rallye de France;Etape 1 : Loeb leader, Latvala s’accroche

Au volant de sa Citroën DS3 WRC/Michelin, Sébastien Loeb a bouclé la première étape du Rallye de France-Alsace avec 13s1 d’avance sur Jari-Matti Latvala. Mikko Hirvonen (3e) et Petter Solberg (4e) se tiennent en moins d’une seconde.

Après six spéciales dans les forêts alsaciennes et vosgiennes, les concurrents ont conclu cette étape par une Superspéciale à Mulhouse, tout au Sud de la région. Ils avaient ensuite une centaine de kilomètres à parcourir sur autoroute pour rallier le parc d’assistance au Zénith de Strasbourg, largement de quoi débriefer cette journée.

Pneus Michelin Pilot Sport hard ou soft ? Les choix de pneumatiques étaient une fois de plus au cœur des discussions ce matin : l’ES2 était sèche, l’ES3 très humide, l’ES4 partiellement humide. Les pilotes WRC ont fait des choix différents, voire opposés : du hard pour Loeb, Hirvonen, Sordo, du soft pour Latvala, Solberg et Neuville…

Finalement, c’était kif-kif : Sébastien Loeb a terminé cette première boucle de trois spéciales avec 7s5 d’avance sur Latvala. Mikko Hirvonen était un peu décroché (+19s1) et talonné par Neuville, Sordo et Solberg.

Cet après-midi, les choix de pneus furent beaucoup plus évidents : hard pour tous. Sébastien Loeb a quasiment doublé son avance sur Latvala. Il dispose ce soir de 13s1 d’avance sur le Finlandais. Son unique challenger au championnat Pilotes, Mikko Hirvonen, est 3^e à 32s6. Mécontent de son choix de pneus matinal, Petter Solberg (Ford/Michelin) a effectué une belle seconde boucle. Il pointe ce soir à seulement 7/10^e du podium et compte 15s5 d’avance sur l’Espagnol Dani Sordo (Mini WRC).

Leader jeudi soir sur sa Citroën DS3 WRC, Thierry Neuville est désormais 6^e avec 4s9 d’avance sur le Norvégien Mads Ostberg (Ford), alors que Tanak (8^e) et Novikov (9^e) se tiennent en 13s5. Mention bien pour Sébastien Chardonnet, 10^e pour ses débuts mondiaux sur une DS3 WRC. Les pilotes de circuit, Romain Dumas et Yvan Muller, ferment le top-20.

En SWRC, Hayden Paddon n’a que 2s2 d’avance sur Craig Breen, alors que le leader du championnat PG Andersson est 3^e à près d’une minute. En WRC Academy, Evans file vers le titre : il compte 1min14s1 d’avance sur Suarez.

Tom Sykes on provisional pole at Magny Cours

Tom Sykes was the fastest rider in this afternoon’s first qualifying practice the French circuit of Magny-Cours. The British rider who is wearing a new helmet design based on Joan Lascorz’s sticker with #17 and Power for Lascorz on it put his Kawasaki on the top of the charts with a best lap of 1.38.200 and also broke the 2009 race lap record that was held by Noriyuki Haga.

Carlos Checa was second fastest but he was already more than four tenths of a second adrift from Sykes, while the gap with rest of the field was much tighter. Marco Melandri was third followed by Althea’s Davide Giugliano and Jonathan Rea who jumped up the charts in the final minutes.

Michel Fabrizio made a vast improvement with his satellite BMW machine to edge out Max Biaggi for sixth place by just 0.005s. Leon Haslam, none the worse after his morning highside followed both Italians in eighth. Sylvain Guintoli put his Ducati in 9th making it three Ducatis in the top ten and the Frenchman was the last rider to be within a second from Sykes, while Leon Camier (who should be reconfirmed for the 2013 season with FIXI Suzuki) rounded out the top ten.…
