Historics at Brooklands to sell Talbot-Lago T26 Record Cabriolet

Historics at Brooklands versteigert Talbot Lago T26 Record Cabriolet
A 'Gallic pensioner full of brio' is how auction house Historics at Brooklands describes the rare and elegant Talbot-Lago in its 8 March sale. The 1949 two-door 'Record Cabriolet' was taken off the road in the 60s / 70s and only recently restored - exquisitely - to its full, former grandeur...
“Every aspect of the car, from its lusty 4.5-litre, six-cylinder engine, through the flowing bodywork and chassis beneath, to the sumptuous interior, has been meticulously restored by a host of specialists whose passion for perfection is a tribute to the original post-War design from Talbot-Lago,” says Historics at Brooklands.
When introduced in 1947, the model’s 170bhp gave an unstressed, long-legged feel to the driving experience, much appreciated at the time. This two-door soft-top is particularly rare, as most of the models were four-door saloons, but the original customer in the USA no doubt wanted a sportier, open-air experience. Despite being garaged (the result of a failed marriage) for some 40 or 50 years, the records confirm it is a matching-numbers car, now painstakingly restored from the chassis up. Full details and photographs of the restoration accompany the sale of the Talbot-Lago, which has completed only minimal mileage since the expert work was done. Little wonder, then, that Historics is expecting “significant collector interest” in the car, which carries an estimate of £120,000-£150,000.
Further information on the Talbot-Lago T26 can be found here.

Dirt Every Day 2014 GMC Sierra Camper Road Trip 01 In The Woods
    by  | ASSOCIATE ONLINE EDITOR
Hitting the open road in an off-road rig with a comfy cozy camper is probably a dream for many of us especially if you get to bring along a loyal friend for those long road trips between camp spots. Dogs have long been considered man’s best friend because through thick and thin, they’re always there for you and have your back. Heck if you’re not paying attention sometimes, they’ll have your lunch too. It’s no wonder you see people heading out on the road in their RV or campers with their four-legged friends in search of fun, peace and new sights.
On this episode of Dirt Every Day, Fred Williams of Petersen’s 4-Wheel & Off-Road heads out on a road trip with his dogs Batman, Baxter and Lulu in a 2014 GMC Sierra Crew Cab that he borrowed from Rancho Suspension and outfitted with their latest lift kit. The Rancho GMC Sierra sits taller than a standard Sierra, in fact tall enough to clear a set of 35-inch BFGoodrich Mud Terrain KM2 tires which as you’ll see will give this truck way better capability in the dirt and since Fred’s plan was to mount a slide in camper in the bed, getting to remote camp spots off the grid should be easy as pie.
You might be wondering why Fred would decide to go on a road trip to try to relive the essence of John Steinbeck’s ‘Travels with Charley: In Search of America’ and while we can try to explain to you why you would want to live out in the wilderness with your dogs and your four-wheel-drive camper, the simplest reason is, why not?!
Check out the video of what it’s like to travel the open road while living out of your truck and camper and hanging out with a couple of furry four-legged friend in the great outdoors!

Would you spend 235,000 euros on a Mercedes-Benz Pagoda?

    Mercedes-Benz 280 SL Pagode
A smart Pagoda rarely costs more than 100,000 euros – and yet, at Brabus Classic, there are several examples of the 50-year-old SL for around 235,000 euros. What justifies the steep price? We asked…

    From pistons to seats

Brabus press spokesman Sven Gramm knows the business inside-out and was rapidly able to answer our question: “If you buy a Pagoda for 235,000 euros, you can be sure that the car is exactly as it was when it left the factory – from the pistons to the upholstered seats. We put around 1,500 hours of work into a car like this,” explains Gramm, adding, “We restore the car as faithfully as possible, using many original parts. We make an exception, of course, if the customer wants a specific colour, which is a request we are happy to fulfil.”
It’s not possible to grade these immaculately restored specimens as they’re beyond the usual scale of perfection; and the quality is backed up by a two-year Brabus Classic warranty, with no mileage limit.

    Long-term investment

“We get customers who want to drive a perfect car, just as they would have done when picking up a new Mercedes from the factory. Perhaps the prevailing market prices are currently at a lower level than ours, but the value of Pagodas is rising steadily. A flawlessly restored example is a long-term investment that will, I’m sure, more than pay for itself in the end.”
