    Rudy Banny’s '86 BMW R80RS - “Brafé Racer”

    FR
Rudy Banny's college career began with Petroleum Engineering. That's the art of getting crude oil out of the ground and in to pipes. But that was only for about ½ a semester, after which he found out that several calculus classes were involved, and promptly dropped out. Amen to that. Afterwards, you could say he did complete u-turn and got into a little Petroleum Deconstruction. “I've always been a huge fan of Brat Style. After landing a job in advertising, I fell in love with BMW's when a buddy of mine let me ride his 1965 r60/2 and 1972 r75/5 for a week when I was shooting in LA. That was it. I fell in love with airheads. I wanted one, but just couldn't get into the purist mentality that seems so prevalent with Bimmer owners. I’m more of a custom guy. So, I started looking for the cleanest, most pristine airhead I could find, so I could deconstruct it.”
“I was intrigued by Nicholas Damen's Bee Emm Brat posted on Pipeburn, so I used it as my inspiration for this build, except I went ‘Brafé’ Style...”
The bike started out as a fully dressed 1986 R80RS. After stripping it down to a motor and a frame, Rudy started by powder coating the wheels, forks and driveshaft flat black. He then installed an Acewell Speedo, a new headlight and fork ears and brake lines from Spiegler Performance Parts and left the RS cafe bars in place.
“Because I removed the fork brace so I could put a fatter tire on the front, I replaced the stock top fork plate with an aluminum triple clamp from Boxerworks to keep the forks from twisting."
"When I decided to keep the cafe bars, I felt the need to get a nice rear set, which I picked up from Flatracer. I kept the stock pipes, wrapped them and capped them off with some sweet stainless steel reverse-cone shorties that I picked up from Dime City Cycles.”
“I had the tank painted flat black to match the wheels and slapped some new badges on it as well as a Monza gas cap from Flatracer.com. I cut down and narrowed the rear sub-frame to take the Nitroheads Bratstyle Thin Seat that I purchased from Pipeburn. And finally, I cut down and powder coated a steel rear fender and topped it off with an old school tail light from Dime City Cycles.”

    - MOTO GRIGIO -

Woolie’s Workshop and the Deus Ex Machina-Emporium of Postmodern Activities present:
    -MOTO GRIGIO-
Moto Grigio is Michael Woolaway’s latest addition to the Deus Ex Machina arsenal. The bike’s namesake is a vintage Ferrari paint called Grigio Scuro. A simplified translation of the term from Italian into English—dark grey—does the name little justice. It’s a complex hue that shifts from dark grey to near black in different lights. Pairing this color with the aggressive silhouette of Moto Grigio, the bike cuts an imposing figure.
Hand built in Woolie’s Workshop at The Emporium of Postmodern Activities, the Kawasaki W650 engine was punched out to 800cc, features FCR flat slide carburetors and stainless steel headers that flow into a Supertrapp exhaust kitted out with hand made hangers. The custom-made tank and seat marry ideas of new and old. The tank shape is inspired by classic TT style road racers while the seat models itself after current Moto2 bikes. The competition-spec inspiration extends throughout the build with a laundry list of race-ready parts. The wheels sport Sun rims, Buchanan stainless steel spokes and nipples, and knock off hubs from Durelle Racing. The adjustable offset triple clamps are also from Durelle Racing and link up with black anodized Ohlins forks that have been re-valved, re-lengthened, and re-sprung. A Motion Pro Revolver throttle, Brembo brake and ASV clutch lever call the Woodcraft clip-on bars home. The enormous flat track rear brake set-up incorporates a Grimeca caliper and Brembo master cylinder, while up front the Beringer six piston brake meets a Brembo rotor and lever for huge stopping power. A custom chromoly swingarm links up to Works Performance shocks. Finishing touches include a digital dashboard from Motogadget and custom seating from C&C Motorcycle Seats.

    2016 Audi R20 to be a street-legal LeMans car

     2016 Audi R20 to be a street-legal LeMans car - report
    Audi R18 e-Tron hybrid quattro 29.02.2012

Quattro GmbH Managing Director Franciscus Van Meel has already said Audi's upcoming diesel-electric supercarwould topple the McLaren P1, but new details are starting to emerge about the mysterious model.

Automobile Magazine is reporting the car - which could be called the R20 - will be a street-legal LeMans car with a small single-frame grille, vertical LED
headlights and an adjustable rear wing which could function as an air brake. It could also have gullwing doors, active aerodynamics and a full-length tailfin that mimics the one used on the R18 race car.
Inside, we can expect a "black panel center display" and active sport seats with four-point harnesses.
Power could be provided by a twin-turbo V6 TDI engine and two electric motors that drive the front wheels. This setup could give the model a combined output of roughly 700 HP (515 kW). We can also expect torque vectoring technology, e-quattroall-wheel drive and a limited electric-only range.
The car could be unveiled at the 2015 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance and go into production in 2016. Production is expected to be limited to just 100 to 250 units.

Bentley Continental GTC V8: Into thin air

Winter holidays in the Swiss Alps: whether it’s for the skiing, riding the Cresta Run or partying, a trip to St Moritz is always memorable. We took Bentley’s latest convertible for a drive through the famous passes of the Engadin.

Albula, Julier, Maloja: many routes lead to St. Moritz. The Flüela Pass to Davos, at 2383 metres, is as dramatic a journey as you could wish for, connecting Davos and Susch in the lower Engadin. Providing it’s not closed for avalanches, of course. It’s also used by many manufacturers to test new models as its remoteness and challenging conditions are perfect for the final sign-off of their prototypes, far away from the lenses of the proving-ground paparazzi.
We are lucky today, as the pass is open, though the conditions are a little tricky – we soon come across a Passat firmly stuck in a rock wall, its occupants patiently waiting for rescue.
At least they have a nice view.

But there are no dangerous roads, only unsuitable cars. With its roof down, the all-wheel-drive Bentley, lighter now thanks to the 6-litre W16 making way for a V8, is the perfect car for the conditions: good visibility, compact dimensions and state-of-the-art traction. Despite having only four litres, the twin-turbo V8 produces 500bhp, with 487lb ft torque available at 1700rpm. On snow, with its weight (60kg lighter, much of that from the front of the car) more evenly balanced thanks to the smaller engine, it feels agile and ready for action.
The 8-speed gearbox adds to the sporting experience and, above 5000rpm, we worry that the roaring V8 might cause an avalanche.

Sunlight dapples snow-laden trees. Clouds of fresh, white snow billow behind the red car as it makes its way through the mountains. The roof is still open but we have the neck-level heating on ‘max’. Like the carriages that brought the early British pioneering sportsmen to the area in the 19th Century, it is stately and, at 2295kg, still quite heavy. That’s a lot and, even in the snow and ice, for Alpine driving we recommend specifying the optional carbon ceramic material brakes.
As it was, we just about stayed clear of the Swiss Mountain Rescue service... and the blades of the next snow plough coming round a blind bend.

While drifting in the manner of Walter Röhrl might impress spectators, it’s difficult in the GTC as the complex computer systems do the job all too well. We would suggest another car for this, probably from an older era. Perhaps it’s better for the Cresta rider travelling to St Moritz for the new season to save his sliding for Shuttlecock, one of the most famous corners on the Run.
And it’s at the familiar white building that is the Clubhouse of the St Moritz Tobogganing Club that we finish our journey. Driving through the town, with its Christmas decorations twinkling in the early evening lighting, we can’t help feeling that the Dragon Red Bentley fulfils every possible requirement of a perfect winter sports car: it gets you to the destination safely and in style. And that’s whether it’s the Cresta, the most convenient ski lift or the après-ski disco.

Not even Father Christmas driving his sleigh through the centre of St Moritz would have made a more sure-footed entrance.

Finally, no visit to St Moritz is complete without a stay at the Suvretta House Hotel. A big thank you to both the management of the Suvretta House and the members of the St Moritz Tobogganing Club (SMTC)
