    Max Biaggi announces retirement



















    Two time World Superbike champion Max Biaggi has officially announced this morning in a press conference at the Vallelunga circuit that he will be retiring after 21 years of racing.
    The Roman Emperor who is 41, has 63 victories to his name, 29 in 250cc with four World titles, 13 in MotoGP/500cc, and 21 in World Superbikes.
    We’ve translated what Biaggi said:
    It’s been the longest night, but I’m happy to leave now. I don’t want to be like politicians attached to the chair. I thought about it a lot, I said to myself do I continue for 1 or 2 years or do I stop? And I decided to leave now. My family counted in my decision. The time has come to spend a little time with my family. But I don’t want it to be a sad day. Unlike Doohan, I stopped because I want to stop and not because I wasn’t competitive. I have written important pages in the history of motorcycle racing. I had a contract if I wanted it, but I’m leaving with no regrets. Infact I’d thank all those who have accompanied me in these 20 years. It was still a very hard choice, but not forced by anyone, today I’m leaving standing on my two legs, while others have had serious injuries. I’m thinking of a collaboration with the Aprilia off track, you will soon read some news about it.

    La FFMC appelle tous les usagers de deux ou trois roues motorisé à désobéir au decret stupide qui imposera le port obligatoire de 150 cm² de matière rétro-réfléchissante ou d’un brassard de surface équivalente. La FFMC dénonce cette surenchère réglementaire décidé par le précédent gouvernement à des fins de communication politicienne.
    A partir du 1er janvier 2013, les motocyclistes et leur passager circulant sur des deux-roues motorisé de plus de 125 cm3 devraient, selon un décret paru le 3 janvier dernier, porter obligatoirement en toutes circonstances un brassard rétro réfléchissant si leur équipement d’origine n’est pas équipé d’éléments de rétro-réflexion équivalents.
    La FFMC, engagée depuis trois décennies dans l’amélioration de la sécurité des usagers en deux-roues motorisés, dénonce cette ineptie :
    • Inadaptée : les motards roulent déjà avec leurs feux allumés en permanence. En outre les éléments rétro réfléchissants sont inopérants en plein jour.
    • Injuste : les automobilistes tenus de posséder à bord de leur véhicule un gilet de haute visibilité encourent une simple amende en cas d’infraction, alors que les motards risquent aussi un retrait de deux points s’ils ne répondent pas à cette obligation.
    • Incohérente : cette mesure ne vise que les utilisateurs de véhicules de plus de 125 cm3, catégorie de conducteurs déjà la mieux équipée. De plus, contraindre plutôt que convaincre est contraire à une adhésion aux enjeux de sécurité routière.


    Dans deux mois, s’il n’est pas abrogé d’ici là, le décret du 3 janvier 2012 obligera les motards à porter des éléments rétro réfléchissant supplémentaires sous peine être passibles de verbalisation et de perdre deux points sur leur permis de conduire. Pour alerter les motards sur cette mesure, la FFMC publie quatre affiches et lance une pétition en ligne.

    KTM RC 250 R PRODUCTION RACER




    In less than a year, KTM’s Moto3 program has developed into a world championship success story. KTM and Sandro Cortese on the Moto3 Grand Prix bike both secured the World Championship titles in Sepang, Malaysia with two rounds still in hand. Now for ambitious customer teams, KTM is sending the KTM RC 250 R, the company’s production racer on the starting line.
    There was only seven months between the presentation of Moto3 winning aggregate in Hangar 7 in Salzburg, Austria at the beginning of October 2011 and Sandro Cortese’s premiere win on the KTM RC 250 GP in Estoril, Portugal. But this success is no mere product of coincidence but of the systematic implementation of the project. As well as the rider world title through Cortese and the manufacturer’s world title for KTM in the first year of the Moto3 competition, the results of the other four KTM riders and of the four KALEX-KTM riders was an impressive display of this knowhow.
    It is on the basis of the consistent speed of the nine KTM riders that the KTM racer is being further developed for 2013. Both the production racer and the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup bike will be on the start next season so that customer teams and up-and-coming riders are able to profit from this development in the future. Both machines are direct offshoots of the KTM Grand Prix motorcycle and both are developed under the technical direction of Wolfgang Felber.


     Wolfgang Felber (Head of KTM Customer Racing Sport): “The basis of the Production Racer is not much different to our Grand Prix motorcycle. The GP bike is only adapted to suit the current Moto3 regulations, for example it runs with the regulation Dell’Orto electronics unit, has a maximum of 14,000 revolutions and has an Akrapovic exhaust system that allows 115 dB. OZ magnesium wheels, a factory braking system with dual brake disks from Brembo in the front and WP Suspension elements all save weight – but basically these are also components that can all be fitted to the RC 250 R Production Racer!”

    Riders Night GommaTì est la seconde édition de la  Riders Night, qui se fera cette année en collaboration avec Pirelli et se déroulera durant la semaine milanaise de la moto ,en même temps qu' Eicma 2012.

    Fernandes ne sera plus Team Principal de Caterham

    Tony Fernandes a annoncé sur Autosport et Autocar qu'il quitterait le poste de Team Principal de Caterham F1 Team pour se concentrer sur les affaires de la marque qui vient de signer un partenariat avec Renault pour la renaissance d'Alpine.
    Tony Fernandes a confirmé à nos confrères britanniques qu'il quitterait le poste de Team Principal de Caterham F1 Team avant la fin de la saison. « Nous sommes arrivés à la conclusion qu'il était préférable que quelqu'un d'autre prenne le poste de Team Principal. Nous sommes clairement meilleurs dans les affaires que pour trouver des dixièmes sur la piste », a reconnu l'homme d'affaires malaisien qui n'a pas voulu révéler le nom de son successeur, se contenant simplement d'assurer que cette personne travaillait déjà dans le milieu de la F1.

    Cette nouvelle survient au lendemain de l'annonce du partenariat avec Renault et Caterham pour la renaissance d'Alpine, dont la société malaisienne. Tony Fernandes semblait particulièrement enthousiasmé par cette nouvelle perspective d'avenir où le Groupe Caterham entrera à hauteur de 50% dans le capital de la société Alpine Renault. « Je n’ai pas été autant enthousiasmé par un nouveau projet depuis que j’ai créé AirAsia en 2001 », avait avoué hier l'actuel Team Principal de Caterham F1 Team.

    Presidential Style: The JFK Factor


    When the US elects a new President, the world awaits the result with bated breath. Nowadays, we are used to political spin, image management and blanket coverage on social networks, but in 1960 a fresh-faced JFK made full use of his good looks, photogenic family and East Coast classic style to win a dramatic race with Richard Nixon.

    Much has been made of the first televised US presidential debates in American history. Compared with Nixon (perspiring, unfit and sporting a rough five o’clock shadow), Kennedy looked the personification of modern vitality. Well-dressed and professionally made up for an appearance on TV, JFK was clearly ‘the man of the future’. Interestingly, radio listeners decided the event was a one-all draw, clearly demonstrating the power of the visual medium.
    With his military background and deportment, plus the ability to wear timeless clothing (whether in presidential meetings, playing with the family or sailing off Cape Cod), JFK often looks like an advert for Ralph Lauren or Tod’s. He frequently wore suits from the New York branch of Savile Row tailor H. Harris – classic Ivy League styling.

    We know California-based Icon for its high-quality reinterpretations of classic SUVs – almost clinically clean vehicles, durable but with modern technology hidden under their classic looks. But now Icon has a new, darker range of vehicles to unleash… 

    …one-offs that Icon calls the ‘Derelicts’. These are cars that you’d perhaps expect to see at the junkyard, or maybe as a ‘Cuba Cruiser’ spotted in Havana. They can even be seen as the perfect antidote to “restoring things too far”: appearing weatherbeaten and rotten – but technically vital and potent, completely rebuilt from the chassis up.

    Track Rivals: Ferrari and Maserati exhibition in Modena


    These days, Ferrari and Maserati are united as sister brands – but there were times in history when their respective racing stables were in fierce competition. The latest exhibition at the Museo Casa Enzo Ferrari in Modena – The Great Challenges, Ferrari – Maserati – brings that era of history back to life.


    Today we see the Italian racing cars, especially those of the pre- and immediately post-War period, as style icons and works of art. But in their day they had only one purpose: first place on the race track. “Cars are beautiful when they win,” as Enzo Ferrari once said. As long ago as 1929, Scuderia Ferrari was racing against the Maserati brothers of Bologna, but with Alfa Romeos, rather than Ferrari-badged cars. After the war, Ferrari began producing his own race car and achieved ever-greater successes on track. During the 1950s, Ferrari and Maserati drivers shared a great many podiums, with some of the top drivers, such as Juan Manuel Fangio, driving for both teams (as well as for the Italian marques’ great rivals from Germany, in the shape of Mercedes-Benz and the fearsome Silver Arrows).


    For the exhibition The Great Challenges, Ferrari – Maserati, 19 legendary Italian racing cars of both breeds have been brought together from that time, cars such as the Ferrari 340MM, Maserati 250F, Ferrari 330 P and the Maserati A6 GCS/53, to name but four. As well as the cars themselves, the exhibition will also tell the story of each car and its racing history, with interactive screens to help visitors understand the historical context and allow them to feel truly immersed in this golden era of racing.
