Rockerbox Motofest
Milwaukee’s Rockerbox was forged a decade ago for one simple reason: to come together and marvel in all things motorcycle. We may be the home of the HOG, but this one-day festival is open to all. From choppers to racers, scooters to sidecars, Rockerbox continues to attract bikes of all breeds to Riverwest. Artcurial’s Monaco sale… 3m euros but don’t forget the Ami 6
Hidden among the assorted cars from Les Grandes Marques in Monaco on 22 July was a humble Citroën. Less humble than you’d think, though, as the Ami 6 was eventually sold for 33,700 euros. This was against a pre-sale estimate of 6,000 - 10,000 euros.
“Mon dieu!” one might exclaim – although the quirky ‘upmarket 2CV’ styled by Flaminio Bertoni has its fans. Back to more traditional fare, top-selling car was the 1965 AC Cobra 427 Roadster, which sold for 439,200 euros. This was followed by that sharply designed wonder of the 1970s, the 1976 Lancia Stratos that generated a winning bid of 312,900 euros.
Ami 6 apart, another quirky, futuristic entry that sold for good old-fashioned big bucks was the 45,700 euros, 1958 BMW Isetta 600 Moretti.

Leg 1 - 2013 WRC Rally Finland : Neuville (Ford/Michelin) leader
Belgian rally fans will be delighted to see one of their own sitting at the top of the leaderboard in Finland this evening. Ford-Michelin’s Thierry Neuville has emerged from the difficult first day in front, chased by Sébastien Ogier (Volkswagen) and his team-mate Mads Ostberg. Early leader Hirvonen has fallen back to fourth for Citroën, while Jari-Matti Latvala (VW) only completed three of today’s six stages.

Il est talonné par Sébastien Ogier (VW/Michelin) et son équipier chez Ford Mads Ostberg . Hirvonen est quatrième alors que Jari-Matti Latvala s’est retiré après trois spéciales.
Despite spending 10 hours away from Rally Finland’s Jyväskylä base, crews only covered 45.51 competitive kilometres in the course of Day 1 of the WRC’s eighth round.
The menu included a long drive south for a 13.68km test (SS3) near Lahti before an equally long journey back to the day’s sole service park in Jyväskylä after six stages. There was no rhythm to the programme, yet there was still some good action and plenty of drama to keep spectators entertained.
Jari-Matti Latvala was the opening leg’s first victim when he crashed on SS2. He managed to limp through SS3 with severe suspension damage but then retired after falling to 90th overall (+8m19.6s).
The Finn’s misfortunes allowed a charging trio comprising Neuville, Ogier and Hirvonen to pull slightly clear at the top of the order, and the surprising Belgian was rewarded for his consistent speed by tonight’s provisional lead. “It’s been a good day for me,” he commented at the end of SS6 which brought him the second of his two fastest times. “No big risks. I preferred to slow on the rainy stage [SS5, ‘Himos 2’]. In all, I think we played it quite smart and I’m happy.”
The rain on SS5 caused Hirvonen to drop 16 seconds because of his late running order. The stage was contested with cars competing in groups of four, starting at 30-second intervals. Following Latvala’s retirement, the Citroën driver was 13th on the road which meant he was slightly isolated from his main rivals. As luck would have it, the rain suddenly became much heavier when Mikko got his turn and he was visibly less at ease in the water-filled ruts. Needless to say, he wasn’t pleased with his fate and he trails Neuville this evening by 13.8s.
Ogier (2nd, +5.2s) was relieved to finish with what he described as a “really boring day” (despite two fastest times!) and he is looking forward to the ‘real’ rally beginning tomorrow morning (Friday). Meanwhile, Hirvonen’s unfortunate time-loss has promoted Ostberg back into the top three and there have been six different podium configurations since this morning’s start!
Tonight’s top six is rounded off by Juho Hänninen (+17.0s, Ford) and Kris Meeke (+17.5s) who has shown good speed, despite not contesting a WRC event since the 2011 Wales Rally GB.
The overnight podium in the WRC-2 class is topped by local specialist Jari Ketomaa (Ford), 24 seconds clear of Poland’s Robert Kubica (Citroën) who is only 2.0s ahead of another surprising Brit, Elfyn Evans (Ford). Finn Esapekka Lappi is fourth in his Skoda.
The dominant force in the WRC-3 battle so far has been Alistair Fisher who has a nine-second advantage over another British Citroën driver, Keith Cronin.

Cette spéciale s’est disputée par groupes de quatre voitures lâchées toutes les 30 secondes. Après le retrait de Latvala, le pilote Citroën/Michelin était en 13e position sur la route et donc relativement « isolé » des autres concurrents WRC. Et lorsqu’il a pu enfin s’élancer dans cette ES5, la pluie avait redoublé et la visibilité était très faible. Pas de chance pour Mikko qui pointe ce soir 4e à 13s8 du leader.
Ogier (2e à 5s2) était heureux d’en finir avec cette journée qu’il a qualifée « d’ennuyeuse » (malgré deux meilleurs temps !) et attend avec impatience l’étape de demain. Ostberg complète le podium provisoire qui a changé six fois au cours de cette journée !
