Nick Veasey’s ghostly X-ray cutaway of a Ferrari Daytona

You might have seen Nick Veasey’s work before; it’s not exactly indistinctive, as he uses not a pen, brush or computer mouse, but an X-ray machine. Here we take a look at his behind-the-scenes process – one that you might like your own classic to go through in the name of art…

Veasey has honed his unique procedure for many years now, his subjects ranging from underwear to jumbo jets. Unsurprisingly, our new favourite is the Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona you see above, whose journey to artistic immortality through electromagnetic radiation was visually documented, allowing a rare glimpse into the logistical (im)practicalities behind his work.

M/Y ‘Tiky’ is a classic cruiser with style

Let’s be honest: the majority of superyachts currently crossing between St Tropez and Portofino are not only incredibly expensive, but also equally distasteful. This 1960s motoryacht, then, is a breath of fresh sea air…

The charmingly christened ‘Tiky’ was built in 1961 at the Dutch shipyard of Feadship. Equipped with three sleeping cabins, two 127HP diesel engines and an abundance of teak decking and surfacing, she’s more about comfort and elegance than rapid dynamic progress. After an extensive restoration last year, the 1960s motoryacht has now been added to the Classic Driver Market in search of a new owner.

Portugal (WRC), after Day 2: Latvala faces Ogier threat / Latvala va-t-il résister à Ogier ?

Jari-Matti Latvala est leader du Rallye du Portugal avec 9.5 secondes d’avance sur son équipier Sébastien Ogier. A 1.1 seconde de Kris Meeke (3e, Citroën), Andreas Mikkelsen n’a pas fait une croix sur un podium, et Volkswagen sur un triplé. Ce Rallye du Portugal est fabuleux !

La deuxième étape du Rallye du Portugal 2015 a été dominée par Sébastien Ogier, passé de la 6^e à la 2^e place. Après trois meilleurs temps consécutifs cet après-midi, le Français est revenu à 9s5 de son équipier Jari-Matti Latvala alors qu’il en comptait 25s9 de retard ce matin.

« J’ai attaqué très fort toute la journée », confiait Ogier à l’entrée du parc d’assistance. « Ce matin, je pensais avoir trois voitures devant moi pour balayer la piste, mais il n’en restait qu’une après deux ES. C’était donc très glissant et on a connu une belle frayeur dans l’ES10 sur un freinage en descente. Cet après-midi, on a attaqué comme des fous. Désormais, tout est possible. »

« J’ai abimé mes pneus sur les sections asphalte », reconnaissait Latvala à l’arrivée de l’ES13. « Mais bon, on est encore en tête. » Le Finlandais est leader depuis l’ES4, mais va-t-il résister au retour de son équipier ?

Avec un top-4 groupé en 21.1 secondes, les milliers de fans attendus dans la spéciale de Fafe (ES14/ES16, 11,15 km), demain, vont avoir du beau spectacle. Et c’est peut-être dans la longue Vieira do Minho (ES15, 32,35 km) que cette 5^e manche de la saison va se jouer.

Ott Tanak (Ford) a perdu le contact avec le top-4 ce matin, mais l’Estonien a creusé l’écart sur ses poursuivants Dani Sordo (5^e, Hyundai), Hayden Paddon (6^e, Hyundai) et Mads Ostberg (7^e, Citroën) retardé par des ennuis de turbo cet après-midi. Ces trois pilotes se tiennent en 9.6 secondes.

Cette étape n’a pas souri à Elfyn Evans (touchette et début incendie ES8), Thierry Neuville (sortie ES8) et à Lorenzo Bertelli (sortie ES10). Robert Kubica (Ford) et Martin Prokop (Ford) complètent le top-ten.

En WRC-2, les nouvelles Skoda Fabia R5/Michelin ont dominé la matinée avec Pontus Tidemand et Esapekka Lappi qui pointent sur le podium provisoire depuis le retrait d’Al-Rajhi (touchette). Mais le leader et champion en titre Nasser Al-Attiyah (Ford) a réagi dans l’après-midi et compte 49 secondes d’avance malgré 10 secondes de pénalité. Stéphane Lefebvre (Citroën) et Julien Maurin (Ford) sont en bagarre pour les accessits.

En Juniors, trois pilotes Français sont sur le podium provisoire. Quentin Gilbert possède une confortable avance sur Jean-René Perry et sur Pierre-Louis Loubet. En Fiesta Trophy, avant la dernière spéciale, le Finlandais Max Vatanen était en tête devant Marius Aasen et Gus Greensmith.

The second day of the 2015 Rally de Portugal was dominated by Ogier who has fought back from overnight sixth to second spot. Three fastest times this afternoon saw the Frenchman close the gap to Latvala from 25.9s this morning to just 9.5s.

“I pushed hard all day,” admitted Ogier this evening. “This morning, I thought there would be three cars sweeping the stages ahead of me but only one of them was still there after the first two tests. It was very slippery and we had a big scare under braking downhill on SS10. This afternoon, we went like crazy. Anything is possible now.”

“I damaged my tyres on the asphalt sections,” explained Latvala after SS13, “but we’re still in front.” The Finn has led since SS4, but will he succeed in staying clear of his charging team-mate?

With the top four covered by just 21.1s, the Portuguese fans are in for a treat tomorrow on Fafe (SS14/16, 11.15km), and the outcome could well be settled on the long ‘Vieira do Minho’ stage (SS15, 32.35km).

Ott Tanak (Ford) has fallen back from the leading quartet but enjoys a big gap to his pursuers Dani Sordo (5^th, Hyundai), Hayden Paddon (6^th, Hyundai) and Mads Ostberg (7^th, Citroën) who are covered by 9.6s. The Norwegian was delayed by a turbo issue this afternoon.

It was another day to forget for Elfyn Evans (who had an off and a small fire on SS8), Thierry Neuville (accident, SS8). Lorenzo Bertelli (accident, SS10). Robert Kubica (Ford) and Martin Prokop (Ford) round out tonight’s top 10.

In WRC2, the morning was dominated by the new Michelin-equipped Skoda Fabia R5s in the hands of Pontus Tidemand and Esapekka Lappi who are on the overnight podium following the retirement of Al-Rajhi (off). The championship leader Nasser Al-Attiyah (Ford) responded in the afternoon to stay 49s clear despite taking a 10-second penalty. Stéphane Lefebvre (Citroën) and Julien Maurin (Ford) are still fighting for fourth.

There are three French drivers on the Junior podium, led by Quentin Gilbert who is comfortably clear of Jean-René Perry and Pierre-Louis Loubet. In the Fiesta Trophy, Finland’s Max Vatanen led with one stage remaining, followed by Marius Aasen and Gus Greensmith...
