Bentley & Breitling – Top Gun meets the Magnificent Seven

To present seven bespoke Bentleys and seven matching Breitling chronographs to their new owners, the entire fleet of aircraft from the Breitling Jet Team was rolled out at the Seattle Boeing Seafair Airshow…
The Breitling Jet Team is the world’s largest professional civilian flight team performing in jets, with a fleet comprising seven L-39 C Albatros jets that can reach speeds of up to 565mph while flying in close formation. Inspired by this daring squadron, Bentley and Breitling have created a limited run of Continental GT Speeds and matching Chronomat 44 watches. The seven cars – each given bespoke liveries and details by the Mulliner personalisation programme – were handed over with their matching timepieces by the corresponding jet’s pilots, who then took the lucky seven on a scenic flight across the Seattle skyline.
You can find Bentleys and Breitlings for sale in the Classic Driver Market.

Nashville, Tennesse is known as the home of American country music and it’s rare for Italian divas to appear here. However, an exhibition at the First Center will bring the great beauties of the Italian automobile and motorcycle industry to the city.

    Italian beauties

The exhibition, titled ‘Bellissima! The Italian Automotive Renaissance 1945-1975’ at the Frist Center for the Visual Arts in Nashville, Tennessee, will be dedicated to the tailor-made automobiles, design studies and motorcycles that were designed and manufactured in Italy from 1945 to 1975. Back in 2013, guest curator Ken Gross held a special exhibition – ‘Sensuous Steel: Art Deco Automobiles’ – that set the scene for similar events and, in summer 2016, he will return to Nashville with 18 cars and 3 motorcycles. Among the classics from Alfa Romeo, Bizzarrini, Ducati, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Lancia and Maserati that come from private collections and museums, you will discover some of the most elegant designs of the post-War era, designs that one would otherwise only see at major concours events such as Pebble Beach or Villa d’Este. Examples include three of the legendary BAT design studies from Bertone and a Ferrari 250 GTO – although our personal favourite is the turbine-powered Chrysler Ghia ‘Gilda’ of 1955.
‘Bellissima! The Italian Automotive Renaissance 1945-1975’ will run from 27 May until 9 October 2016 at the Frist Center for the Visual Arts in Nashville, Tennessee. An accompanying collection catalogue is being published by Rizzoli.

Bonhams consigns Chris Evans’ collection for Goodwood Revival sale

Bonhams has added another set of interesting cars to its Goodwood Revival auction roster, including not only 13 cars from new Top Gear host Chris Evans’ well-known collection – but also a Porsche 908/03 Turbo sports-prototype…

    The Top Gear thirteen...

We’re not too sure why Evans is relinquishing ownership of the baker’s dozen after signing a lucrative new contract with the BBC to take over Jeremy Clarkson’s role as Top Gear front man, but the interest of high-end Ferrari enthusiasts will certainly have been piqued by the announcement. Among the 13 cars he’s consigned to Bonhams’ 2015 Goodwood Revival sale are an ultra-rare, right-hand-drive 1966 Ferrari 275 GTB/6C Alloy (estimate £2.6m–£2.9m), a 1971 Ferrari 365 GTS/4 ‘Daytona’ Spider (£2.3m–£2.6m) and a 1964 Ferrari 250 GT/L ‘Lusso’ (£1.4m–£1.8m). Also offered will be several Jaguars, a Daimler Dart police car, and a Chitty Chitty Bang Bang replica.

...plus a tantalising, terrifying Porsche 908 Turbo

Recently added to the same auction is a 1970 Porsche 908/03, which had twin-turbochargers added by the factory in 1974 for the Martini-Racing programme, after its participation in the 1970 Targa Florio and Nürburgring 1,000km races with different bodywork. Driven by the likes of Jürgen Barth in this later, 660bhp blown configuration, it will carry an estimate of £2.2–£2.5m when it’s auctioned on 12 September.
