Jorge Lorenzo broke the exsisting Silverstone record with his first lap in an amazing 2.01.497 more than one second faster than his FP4 time, only to have Marc Marquez blast out an even crazier lap in 2.01.287, which the Yamaha rider then lowered the time again with a 2.01.217.
A pit stop to change tires then saw Lorenzo drop the time to 2.00.81o only to have Marquez retouch the record once again in a stunning 2.00.691, a massive 1.3 seconds faster than the previous record and leaving Lorenzo 0.128 adrift.
The serious Lorenzo and the happy-go-lucky Marquez were completely in another galaxy compared to the rest of the field as Cal Crutchlow who grabbed third on the starting grid - shaking off his complicated weekend - was +0.734 from the two.
Stefan Bradl will take off on the second row in fourth with Dani Pedrosa and Valentino Rossi by his side. The two are no doubt scratching their heads on how their younger team mates can be so fast.
Andrea Dovizioso will start in seventh missing out on a second row start by a mere 0.014s and he’ll be in the company of Alvaro Bautista and his Ducati team mate Nicky Hayden.
Bradley Smith and Colin Edwards will start the British GP in 10th and 11th, while Aleix Espargaro after his FP4 highside was diagnosed with a fracture to his left little finger and pain in his neck was forced to skip Q2 as he was still undergoing treatment in the circuit medical center, and at the moment it is unknown whether he will be able to race on Sunday. If he does take part he’ll start in 12th.
