Les pilotes du team Movistar Yamaha MotoGP ont souffert d'un certain manque d'adhérence dans la chaleur de vendredi après-midi à Montmeló, où ils ont terminé la première journée aux cinquième et septième positions.
Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) a terminé la première journée du Grand Prix Monster Energy de Catalogne en septième position, à six dixièmes du leader de la journée, Aleix Espargaró, mais était quatrième, à 0.159s du meilleur temps de Bradley Smith, dans la seconde séance d'essais, lorsque les pilotes devaient chausser les gommes dures pour évoluer sur une piste dont la température dépassait les 50°C.
« Ça s'était bien passé ce matin et je ne m'attendais donc pas à avoir de problème cet après-midi mais la piste était beaucoup plus chaude et nous avons eu du mal avec l'adhérence et la régularité du pneu, » a commenté Lorenzo. « Demain nous devrons faire notre choix de pneus et essayer de rendre la moto un peu plus stable à l'accélération. »
Septième sur le classement combiné, Valentino Rossi a déclaré : « C'est dommage parce que c'est une piste fantastique mais qu'il était très difficile de piloter dans ces hautes températures. Les pneus souffraient beaucoup trop. Le revêtement a beaucoup de bosses et n'offre que peu de grip. La moto était difficile à contrôler et je ne suis pas vraiment content de mon rythme ou de ma position. Nous avons suivi une direction pour les réglages et ce n'était pas la bonne. »
« Il faisait très chaud cet après-midi et j'ai souffert en entrée de virage. Nous allons analyser les données et nous devons choisir nos pneus parce que toutes les options sont viables. Nous devons aussi établir une stratégie pour les qualifications. »
Movistar Yamaha MotoGP riders Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi were back on track on Friday for the first free practice sessions of the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya.
Both were quick to re-familiarise themselves with the Montmelo circuit in the first session, Lorenzo leading most of the outing before finishing in second with Rossi fourth, just 0.022 seconds behind his teammate.
The afternoon practice saw scorching hot weather and track temperatures of 52 degrees, changing the track conditions. Both riders switched to the harder compound tyres for the latter half of the session.
Lorenzo wrapped up the second session in fourth, just 0.159s from P1 whilst Rossi finished in sixth, 0.506s from Bradley Smith (Monster Energy Tech 3) at the front.
The results put Lorenzo in fifth in combined times for the day on 1’42.282 and Rossi in seventh on 1’42.423.
“In the morning it was good so I didn't expect to have so many problems in the afternoon, but the track was much hotter and we had problems with grip and tyre consistency. Tomorrow we have to decide which tyre to use in the front and rear and try to make the bike more stable in acceleration,” commented Lorenzo.
Rossi added, “It's a shame because the track is fantastic but it’s very difficult to ride, especially with the high temperatures, the tyres suffer very much because the load on them is very hard. The surface has a lot of bumps and not much grip. I think we have to work for the future because the surface is quite finished. It’s difficult to control the bike and I’m not very happy about my speed and position. We followed one way with the setting but it was not the right way.”
“This afternoon when it was very hot I suffered in the entry of the corner. We will check the data and decide on the tyres as all options are possible. We also have to decide on the strategy for qualifying.”
