Le nonuple Champion du Monde était l'une des stars du Monster Energy Monza Rally Show 2014 et s'est distingué devant de nombreux pilotes auto dont Lewis Hamilton, le Champion du Monde de Formule 1, ou encore l'Américain Ken Block.
Malgré une pluie omniprésente, un large public s'était rassemblé pour l'édition 2014 du Monza Rally Show, auquel participaient Valentino Rossi, Ken Block, le pilote NASCAR Kurt Busch, le Polonais Robert Kubica, ancien pilote de F1 et désormais pilote WRC, ainsi que plusieurs légendes du motocyclisme dont Tony Cairoli et Kiara Fontanesi.
Rossi visait une quatrième victoire au Monza Rally Show mais a terminé deuxième, juste derrière Kubica.
Rossi a commenté : « Je me suis tout d’abord vraiment fait plaisir. C’est dommage de ne pas avoir gagné parce que j’avais 17 secondes d’avance hier avant la dernière spéciale mais j’ai fait une erreur. Ça a ensuite été difficile de retrouver le rythme. Ça a été un bon rallye, je me suis fait plaisir, surtout dans le Masters Show. Nous nous sommes battus jusqu’au bout et c’était très serré. Il y a toujours beaucoup de fans à Monza, c’est toujours un beau week-end et j’ai aimé voir tous mes fans. C’était une belle manière de finir la saison. »
Présent dimanche pour lancer le Masters Show au volant d'une Mercedes AMG A45, Lewis Hamilton était lui aussi ravi d'être venu et a déclaré : « J'ai vraiment aimé et je remercie Monster de m'avoir fait venir. C'était très cool, j'étais allé voir le MotoGP à Catalunya cette année et voir Valentino et Ken Block aujourd'hui au Monza Rally, c'était tout simplement génial. Je vais essayer d'organiser quelque chose pour avoir une voiture et participer l'an prochain parce que ce serait génial de faire un peu de rallye. »
The Monster Energy Monza Rally Show 2014 saw nine-time World Champion Valentino Rossi joined by a host of big names from the world of four wheels, with the likes of F1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton and rally driver Ken Block also in attendance.
It was an event not to be missed and a huge Italian crowd turned out to watch their heroes throw down on the famous Monza circuit in the pouring rain.
The ground may have been dampened but spirits definitely were not and The Doctor wowed the crowds with his performance on four wheels, where he just missed out on getting his fourth Monza win to ex-F1 charger Robert Kubica.
Rossi commented, “First of all I enjoyed it a lot, it’s a shame because before the last stage I had a 17 second advantage but I did a mistake. From that moment it was difficult to get back on the pace. It was a good rally, I enjoyed it. It’s always a great weekend and I enjoy seeing all my fans. It’s a good way to close the season.”
On Sunday Mercedes AMG PETRONAS driver Hamilton took out a Mercedes AMG A45 to open the Masters Show, stating afterwards, “I’ve had a really good time, I’m grateful to Monster for bringing me out here. It’s another very cool event, I went out to the MotoGP Catalunya earlier in the year and today to get out and drive on the Monza Rally circuit and see Valentino and Ken Block too, it’s just cool to be part of this amazing event. I want to work with my guys to get a car together so I can come back and compete next year, to do some rallying would be great.”
