Michèle Morgan was 29 years old when photographer Walter Carone took her picture for Paris Match in May 1949. An international star, she had played opposite Humphrey Bogart, and yet she seems, in this photo, unusually thoughtful at the wheel of her convertible...
Michèle Morgan’s career began in the late 1930s in France, starring alongside Jean Gabin and Pierre Brasseur in the film ‘Port of Shadows’. In 1940, she moved to Los Angeles and became internationally famous, but after the War she turned her back on Hollywood and returned to her native France. In 1949, when this photo for Paris Match was taken, Morgan had just separated from her first husband, Bill Marshall. But the mourning didn’t last long: soon she married fellow actor Henri Vidal and become one of the most popular actresses in France.
