It might be too late to secure an entry to the Silverstone Classic’s headline race, the twilight historic Group C affair, but this EMKA-Aston Martin, which briefly led Le Mans in 1985, could be your ticket to the grid for 2016…
Ready to race
Built for EMKA Racing, the well-known car nut and Pink Floyd manager Steve O’Rourke’s motorsport effort, this Aston Martin-powered Group C car was driven by O’Rourke himself, Tiff Needell and Nick Faure to 11th overall at the 1985 24 Hours of Le Mans. While the car struggled against the turbocharged Porsches, it was the fastest naturally aspirated car on the grid. Its brief four-lap spell in the top slot was to be the final time an Aston Martin-powered car would lead Le Mans outright. Well, to date, anyway.
The subject of a recent complete nut-and-bolt restoration, the car – which is currently offered for sale in the Classic Driver Market – is reportedly in ‘ready to race’ condition (see for yourself, in the beautifully shot video above), and eligible for a host of historic events, including the Le Mans Legend and the Silverstone Classic.
