World SSP ; Sofuoglu renoue avec la victoire et se rapproche du titre / Sofuoglu moves a step closer to WSS title after Jerez win

Vainqueur à Jerez, le Turc aborde l’avant-dernière manche à Magny-Cours avec 33 points d’avance.

Kenan Sofuoglu (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) a atteint son objectif de consolider sa position de leader du Championnat du Monde Supersport à Jerez de la Frontera, après avoir manqué le podium lors des deux courses précédentes. 

En l’absence de Jules Cluzel (MV Agusta Reparto Corse), forfait après s’être fracturé la jambe gauche et luxé l’épaule droite vendredi après-midi, le Turc avait décroché la pole position et a ensuite parfaitement dominé son sujet en course pour renouer avec la victoire et s’imposer pour la cinquième fois de la saison et la première fois depuis le moi de mai. 

Également parti de la première ligne, PJ Jacobsen (CORE Motorsport Thailand) n’a pas pu rivaliser avec le triple Champion du Monde mais s’est assuré une seconde place qui lui permet de passer à la seconde place du classement général, avec cinq points d’avance sur Cluzel et 33 de retard sur Sofuoglu, à deux courses de la fin de la saison.

Lorenzo Zanetti (MV Agusta Reparto Corse) complétait le podium en amenant un troisième constructeur dans le Top 3 derrière Kawasaki et Honda. 

Appelé à remplacer Cluzel au pied levé, l’ancien Champion du Monde 125cc Nico Terol a été protagoniste d’un beau duel pour la quatrième place avec Kyle Smith (Pata Honda World Supersport Team), qui a finalement réussi à prendre le dessus sur l’Espagnol en fin de course. 

Marco Faccani (San Carlo Puccetti Racing), Alex Baldolini (Race Department ATK#25), Christian Gamarino (Team Go Eleven), Kevin Wahr (SMS Honda) et Roberto Rolfo (Team Lorini) figuraient aussi dans le Top 10 à l’arrivée. 

Après un excellent départ qui lui avait permis de se hisser à la troisième place, Lucas Mahias (MG Competition) a très vite dû abandonner sa Yamaha en bord de piste en raison d’un problème technique. 

Gino Rea (CIA Landlords Insurance Honda) et Vladimir Leonov (DMC Racing) ont quant à eux chuté aux alentours de la mi-course.

L’avant-dernière manche du Championnat du Monde Supersport 2015 aura lieu le 4 octobre à Magny-Cours.

Kawasaki, Honda and MV Agusta fill Spanish WSS podium.

Kenan Sofuoglu (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) moved one step closer to his 4^th World Supersport title after controlling today’s 19 lap race at Jerez.

Startiing from Pole Position, the Turkish rider made a perfect start to lead from the start where he was never headed, eventually winning the 32^nd WSS race of his career by 1.037s.

The final places on the podium were taken by PJ Jacobsen (CORE Motorsport Thailand) and Lorenzo Zanetti (MV Agusta Reparto Corse) the pair lapping consistently but unable to challenge Sofuoglu today.

After a steady start Kyle Smith (Pata Honda World Supersport Team) finished 4^th ahead of WSS debutant Nico Terol (MV Agusta Reparto Corse). Terol was drafted after the unfortunate crash on Friday that curtailed Jules Cluzel’s title ambitions. The rider who began the season in WorldSBK looked strong on his supersport debut, moving into the top 8 from the start, eventually finishing a very credible 5^thafter some elbow to elbow moves with Smith saw him lapping almost as fast as the leaders.

Marco Faccani (San Carlo Puccetti Racing) completed the top 6.

7^th to 10^th positions were taken by Alex Baldolini (Race Department ATK#25), Christian Gamarino (Team Go Eleven), Kevin Wahr (SMS Honda), and Roberto Rolfo (Team Lorini), while the final point scoring positions were taken by Dominic Schmitter (Team Go Eleven), Marcos Ramirez (Team Lorini), Aiden Wagner (CIA Landlords Insurance Honda) and Martin Cardenas (CIA Landlords Insurance Honda) and Janos Chrobak (Schmidt Racing).

Lucas Mahias (MG Competition) was back in action but the Frenchman’s race lasted a lap before he retired with a technical problem, he had been in the leading group.

Gino Rea (CIA Landlords Insurance Honda) crashed out of the top ten as the race approached half distance as did Vladimir Leonov (DMC Racing). Both were unhurt.

The next round of the championship takes place at the Magny-Cours circuit in France in a fortnight.
