Loeb/Elena au Dakar 2016 / Loeb/Elena head for the 2016 Dakar

 Sébastien Loeb et Daniel Elena seront au départ du Rallye Dakar 2016 sur une Peugeot 2008 DKR/Michelin. 

Depuis sa visite sur le Dakar 2014, les rumeurs allaient bon train sur l’éventuelle participation de Loeb au Rallye Tout-Terrain le plus connu du monde. Cet été, il avait testé la Peugeot 2008 DKR au Maroc avant de se mettre en quête d’un copilote expérimenté dans la discipline.

L’annonce a donc été officialisée aujourd’hui par Peugeot Sport : Sébastien Loeb sera au départ du Rallye Dakar 2016, avec Daniel Elena à ses côtés. L’équipage nonuple champion du monde disputera le Rallye du Maroc (3-9 octobre) la semaine prochaine en guise d’entraînement, sur une Peugeot 2008 DKR version 2015.

Sébastien Loeb et Daniel Elena complèteront donc un team Peugeot-Total composé de quatre équipages avec Stéphane Peterhansel/Jean-Paul Cottret, Carlos Sainz/Lucas Cruz et Cyril Despres/David Castera.

Après un retour au Dakar difficile en janvier dernier, Peugeot et la 2008 DKR/Michelin ont remporté le Silk Way Rally en Chine le mois dernier avec Peterhansel.

Après le rallye WRC (neuf titres, 78 victoires), la course-de-côte de Pikes Peak (record), et le WTCC, Sébastien Loeb va donc relever un nouveau défi à près de 42 ans.

Since his appearance as a visitor during the 2014 Dakar, it has long been rumoured that Sébastien Loeb could be tempted by the world’s most famous cross-country rally. During the summer, he tested the Peugeot 2008 DKR in Morocco and then started looking for an experienced co-driver.

This morning, Peugeot Sport announced that Sébastien Loeb will tackle the 2016 Dakar with Daniel Elena sitting alongside. The nine-time world rally championship-winning pairing will contest next week’s Rallye du Maroc (October 3-9) in order to get some practice in a 2015-spec Peugeot 2008 DKR.

Loeb and Elena will join new Peugeot-Total team-mates Stéphane Peterhansel/Jean-Paul Cottret, Carlos Sainz/Lucas Cruz and Cyril Despres/David Castera in Morocco.

After a troubled return to the Dakar last January, Peugeot won the recent Silk Way Rally in China with Peterhansel (2008 DKR/Michelin).

For Loeb, 42, the Dakar will be a brand new challenge after claiming nine titles and 78 wins in the WRC. The Frenchman also holds the record for the Pikes Peak hill climb (Colorado, USA) and is an experienced WTCC racer.
