C’est un grand chelem pour Porsche Team en qualifications cette saison ! Brendon Hartley et Timo Bernhard ont qualifié la Porsche/Michelin N°17 en pole position des 6 Heures de Bahreïn devant la Porsche N°18. Les Audi partiront en deuxième ligne. En LM GTE Pro, la première ligne sera 100% Ferrari/Michelin. Pole position pour l’Alpine A450b en LM P2 et pour l’Aston Martin N°98 en GTE Am.
Les dernières qualifs de l’année étaient programmées en nocturne sur le circuit de Sakhir. La séance a pris 20 minutes de retard à cause d’un système d’éclairage défectueux.
Les prototypes sont entrés en scène à 17h50, les deux Porsche 919 Hybrid en tête de meute. Brendon Hartley (Porsche N°17, 1min39s802) et Romain Dumas (Porsche N°18, 1min40s362) ont immédiatement signé les deux meilleurs temps, devant Marcel Fässler (Audi N°7) en 1min40s648.
Le second run n’a rien changé en tête du classement, d’autant plus que Timo Bernhard a encore amélioré au volant de la N°17 en 1min39s670 (meilleur tour absolu), offrant une 8e pole position à Porsche Team en huit courses. Marc Lieb a lui aussi amélioré en 1min39s838 pour assurer une première ligne 100% Porsche pour la...8e fois de la saison !
Les Audi N°7 et N°8 s’élanceront depuis la deuxième ligne sur la grille de départ, devant les deux Toyota TS040 Hybrid N°1 et N°2, et les deux R-One Rebellion Racing N°13 et N°12.
En LM P2, Paul-Loup Chatin a fini l’œuvre de Tom Dillmann pour qualifier l’Alpine A450b N°36 en pole position. Nick Tandy (Oreca05-Nissan N°47) a essayé jusqu’aux dernières secondes mais n’a pu améliorer la moyenne de 1min49s993 de l’Alpine.
La deuxième ligne sera 100% G-Drive Racing avec la N°26 et la N°28, laissée en pole provisoire par Pipo Derani, en 1min49s718.
En LM GTE, une fois les projecteurs rallumés autour du circuit, Marco Sorensen (Aston Martin N°95, 1min57s984) et Pedro Lamy (Aston Martin N°98, 1min59s428) ont signé les meilleurs tours en GTE Pro et Am, des chronos qui resteront référence sur toute la session.
Puis, lors du run du second pilote, Gimmi Bruni a hissé la Ferrari/Michelin N°51 en pole position LM GTE Pro avec 1min58s508. Son équipier James Calado a dû s’y reprendre à deux fois pour signer 1min58s740 et placer la Ferrari N°71 en première ligne. Les Aston Martin N°95 et N°99 partiront depuis la deuxième ligne, devant la Porsche N°92.
En LM GTE Am, après le super chrono de Lamy, Paul Dalla Lana a maintenu l’Aston Martin N°98 en pole position devant la Corvette C7.R Larbre Competition placée en première ligne par Paolo Ruberti (2min00s219).
Grâce à Andrea Bertolini (2min00s575), la Ferrari N°72 SMP Racing partira en deuxième ligne, aux côté de la Ferrari N°83. Patrick Long (Porsche N°77) a effectué un tout-droit dans son premier tour lancé, avant de réaliser 2min00s776. Victime d’un problème moteur, la Porsche N°88 n’a pas pris part à la séance.
Porsche Team succeeded in qualifying on pole position at every round of the 2015 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) when Brendon Hartley and Timo Bernhard (N°17 Porsche/Michelin) claimed first place on the grid for Saturday’s 6 Hours of Bahrain. Second today was the N°18 sister car. The two Audis will start from Row 2. There will be an all-Ferrari/Michelin front row in LM GTE Pro. LM P2 and LM GTE Am pole winners were the Alpine A450b and the N°98 Aston Martin.
The season’s last qualifying session took place after nightfall at Sakhir but started 20 minutes late due to a floodlighting problem.
The prototypes began their run at 5:50pm local time and the two Porsche 919 Hybrids were first out, with Brendon Hartley (N°17 Porsche, 1m39.802s) and Romain Dumas (N°18 Porsche, 1m40.362s) immediately on the pace, chased by Marcel Fässler (N°7 Audi, 1m40.648s).
The second drivers didn’t alter the order but Timo Bernhard (N°17 Porsche) posted the evening’s fastest lap (1m39.670s) to guarantee Porsche Team’s eighth pole win from eight. Marc Lieb (N°18) also improved (1m39.838s) to make it an all-Porsche front row, also for the eighth time this season.
The N°7 and N°8 Audis will start from the second row, ahead of the N°1 and N°2 Toyota TS040 Hybrids and Rebellion Racing’s N°13 and N°12 R-Ones.
In LM P2, Paul-Loup Chatin finished off Tom Dillmann’s good work to put the N°36 Alpine A450b on top, despite Nick Tandy’s efforts in the N°47 Oreca05-Nissan to better the benchmark of 1m49.993s.
The class’s second row will be an all-G-Drive Racing affair with its N°26 and N°28 cars. Pipo Derani had appeared briefly in front in the latter with a 1m49.718s.
The fastest LM GTE laps were posted by Marco Sorensen (N°95 Aston Martin, 1m57.984s) and Pedro Lamy (N°98 Aston Martin, 1m59.428s) in Pro and Am respectively.
Even so, a lap of 1m58.508s by Gimmi Bruni put the N°51 Ferrari/Michelin on top in Pro, while James Calado’s second effort (1m58.740s) saw the similar N°71 car earn a front-row start. The N°95 and N°99 Aston Martin ended up third and fourth, ahead of the N°92 Porsche.
In LM GTE Am, Paul Dalla Lana rounded off Lamy’s performance to earn pole position in the N°98 Aston Martin, ahead of Larbre Compétition’s Corvette C7.R which was aided by Paolo Ruberti’s 2m0.s219s.
Thanks to Andrea Bertolini (2m0.575s), the N°72 Ferrari (SMP Racing) will start from Row 2, alongside the N°83 Ferrari. Patrick Long (N°77 Porsche) went straight on on his first flying lap but followed up with a 2m0.776s. The N°88 Porsche sat out the session due to an engine problem.
