    Icon 1000 Slow Burn

Built for a life outside the perimeter, Slow Burn was well versed in a hit & run lifestyle. She had been stripped of every extraneous component, every luxury deemed unnecessary in these turbulent times. Her reinforced frame, high-clearance exhaust, and firm suspension allowed operation deep into the bush. The oversized Hella rally light provided just a touch of hope in their darkest hour.

    Dakar 2016 : La Peugeot 2008 DKR16

    Stories of Bike | Sister

Both originally from Sweden, Maria and her best friend, Nina, love to ride.
They ride to work, to catch up, to head out for coffee on weekends.
For the first time, they spontaneously decide to pack swags onto their bikes, head out of Sydney and camp on the first secluded beach they find.

    Blingstar Desert Free Ride

Team Blingstars Clint Roberts and Nick Nelson, come across a ghost town called Randsburg while free riding in the vast California Desert.

The stories behind the styles at the Goodwood Revival

There’s style in spades on display at the Goodwood Revival – but just as impressive are the stories behind them. As an RAF Senior NCO, Joe Breeze was on reconnaissance duties (when he wasn’t fooling around ‘riding’ Vespas on the Credit Suisse movie set, that is)…

Sergeant Aircrew for a day (or two)

As Sergeant Aircrew (or more realistically, Classic Driver’s UK Editor), my task over the weekend was to find a new intake of stylish Revival-goers and report my findings. With help from my assistant Natalie, I was also researching possible future outfits from the vintage retail village – although I understand there’s an unspoken rule that you shouldn’t wear medals unless you’ve earned them, or at the very least can tell the stories behind them. More on those next year...

    The Goodwood Armada

Teresa, Marta and Paloma travelled all the way from Barcelona for the Revival. “Our husbands are over at the track watching the racing, so we’ve come for a walk to see everyone else in their vintage outfits. We’ve never seen anything like it, and we’ll definitely be back next year – whether our husbands join us or not!”

    Dad’s Navy

Steve Clegg went to the Revival wearing his father’s Royal Navy sailor uniform. Thomas Clegg served during the Falklands War, escorting ships to Russia aboard HMS Sheffield – and his name could still be found scribbled into the lining of the hat.

    Bentley boyhood

Accompanied by his parents Stacey and Daniel, Henry Walsh was enjoying his second outing to the Revival – although he didn’t see much the first time, as he was still with his mother as a ‘passenger’. Henry’s grandfather (who passed the tie down to Henry’s father) owned a 4½ Litre Bentley; Henry’s working his way up to one, learning the basics from the helm of his vintage pram.

    The engagement tour

“I wanted a uniform that was easily identifiable, so I went for an Air Raid Precautions warden,” said Steve, who went to the Revival with his new fiancée, Polly, as part of their engagement tour. “I’m quite enjoying this,” Polly told us. “Steve’s shoes are genuine ARP items, so the soles have metal studs – this is the first time that we’ve gone out and he’s been the one complaining about uncomfortable shoes...”

    Youthquaking on a Vespa

Stephanie Goward joined the ‘Youthquake movement’ that took the Revival by storm this year. “Working for a vintage fashion magazine, I’ve been to a lot of vintage shows,” she told us. “But I’m equally interested in the cars at the Revival – when I was growing up, my father owned an Audi Quattro and a Lotus Europa.”

    Pan Am ladies

Lynne and Patricia came from Edinburgh, wearing the iconic uniforms of 1960s Pan Am cabin crew. But putting them together was by no means straightforward: “The bags and badges are original, but we had to make the rest of our outfits from scratch – and the shop in which we found the material only had 10 yards left.” Even more commendable was the fact that they made the journey from Scotland to southern England not by plane, but driving their classic Minis.

    The Goodwood Hornets

The Hornets were assembled at the behest of Lord March, but they’re all genuine biker boys (and girls), and use their machines as ‘daily riders’ when they’re not showing them off at Goodwood. They’re also much more friendly than their stern poses suggest – in fact, the club president is named ‘Huggy’, and is a church caretaker on the other 362 days of the year.

    Last-minute wardrobe raiders

Adrian Blok and Clare Barrett only found they were going to the Revival the day before the event began, but still managed to put together some thoroughly impressive outfits. “Luckily, I wear vintage clothes all year round,” said Clare (who drives a Triumph Herald), “so I just had to do a bit of last-minute wardrobe raiding. Adrian has a few friends that work in Savile Row, so he made some frantic phone calls – and here we are!”

    Ladies of leisure

Gayle and Charlotte were clearly enjoying their ladies’ day out, and even cheekily commandeered an Alfa Romeo 8C 2600 that was about to go on track to ensure they looked the part. “Everywhere you look, it’s like a vintage photo. We couldn’t let the event down now, could we…?”

The long-awaited Bentley Bentayga is the fastest SUV in history

Ahead of the forthcoming Frankfurt Motor Show, Bentley has revealed the production version of its long-awaited SUV, the Bentayga. The 600bhp, W12-powered off-roader will carry its occupants up to 186mph in the serenity for which the marque is famous…

    Familiar face

Using the 6.0-litre engine (and overall styling themes) inherited from its Continental cousins, the Bentayga will eclipse the performance and exclusivity offered by its rivals – until Rolls-Royce andLamborghini join the high-rise party, at least. Twin-turbocharging the W12 will allow the Bentayga to reach speeds higher than any production-spec SUV before it, while also claiming to offer unparalleled levels of refinement, comfort and luxury. Event seating emerging from the tailgate is optional.

    Mode overload?

The car will offer no fewer than eight driving modes ranging between dynamic and off-road; we’ll have to wait patiently to see just how effective the latter is in comparison to the benchmark Range Rover, which costs half the price in its most basic form. Bentayga first-adopters will take delivery of their new 2.5-tonne leviathans next year.

10 Instagrammers to follow during the Goodwood Revival

Between these 10 Instagram accounts – comprising photographers, racing drivers and a Classic Driver dealer – you’ll not miss any of the action from this weekend’s Goodwood Revival, regardless of whether you’re going to be there...

    Amy Shore

You’d never believe that Amy Shore has only been shooting cars for two years, given how well her distinct style suits the subject. Her adaptability means she’s great at capturing the characters and the details, too – ideal for an event like the Goodwood Revival.

    Sam Hancock

Racing driver and automotive consultant Sam Hancock is almost always behind the wheel, driving an immense variety of historic machinery, be it single-seater '70s F1 cars or big Lister bangers (one of which, incidentally, he’ll be racing at the Revival). He’s also got an eye for the eclectic, and a real appreciation of motorsport history.

    Rémi Dargegen

Rémi’s sumptuous galleries on Classic Driver are immensely popular, and for good reason. He was also one of the few photographers at the Revival last year who was the subject of almost as many pictures as he took, his Best Dressed award-winning sailor get-up (and distinctive beard) proving particularly popular.

    Dan Rubin

Leica has enrolled photographer and creative director Dan Rubin to shoot the Revival from a new perspective, with one of its famous ‘M’ cameras. Cars don’t feature on Dan’s Instagram feed, so it will be interesting to see how he tackles the weekend…

    Jochen Mass

Always a crowd-pleaser at Goodwood, Jochen Mass will be racing a thunderous Ford Galaxie in the St Mary’s Trophy. Follow him for a driver’s-eye view of the Revival.

    Peter Aylward

Peter Aylward’s Goodwood Festival of Speed photos proved particularly popular, and we’re pleased to say he’ll be working with us again at the Revival. Variety is key with Peter’s shots, so if you can’t make it to Goodwood, fear not – simply visit Classic Driver on Monday morning.

    James Cottingham

Classic Driver dealer DK Engineering’s presence at this year’s Revival is significant – James Cottingham will race a Ferrari 500TR, Ford GT40 and a Tojeiro-Jaguar, while in the Ferrari-only Earls Court show, a number of DK’s cars (including a 250 LM) will take centre stage.

    Kim Leuenberger

Another of Leica’s recruits, photography student Kim Leuenberger will be documenting the event in her indulgent style. Let’s hope she’s as good at shooting real cars as she is at miniature models. Three words: depth of field.

    Max Girardo

RM Sotheby’s Managing Director and Auctioneer Max Girardo isn’t just a dab hand on the rostrum; he’s also a skilled historic racer. Driving a Ferrari 250 GT ‘Tour de France’ in the Lavant Cup this weekend, we’re hoping he’ll prove as entertaining to watch (and sideways) as he was at last year’s 72nd Members’ Meeting.

    Goodwood Revival

It may seem obvious, but Goodwood’s own Instagram feed is regularly updated with a variety of behind-the-scenes highlights. If you’re reading this on Friday and not at the Revival, prepare for envy to set in.

... and, of course, Classic Driver

Remember you can follow our Classic Driver Instagram account, which is regularly updated with superb original photography. And our very own Joe BreezeAlex Easthope, and J. Philip Rathgenwill all be present. We hope to see some of you there...
