BMW has been operating in Italy for 50 years, and to mark the occasion, the Bavarian marque has teamed up with Garage Italia Customs to create this special i8 Futurism Edition, honouring the great Italian artwork of Giacomo Balla…
Chasing an ancient ancestor
The specific work of Giacomo Balla replicated on the i8’s futuristic bodywork is ‘Lampada ad Arco’, which currently hangs in the New York Museum of Modern Art. It’s said to represent a street lamp at the advent of electricity – a fitting contrast to the ultra-modern electronic technology in the i8, which BMW is calling the ‘future of mobility’. The i8 Futurism Edition will be driven in this week’s Mille Miglia behind the BMW 328 of Sergio Solero, the President and CEO of BMW Italy. Now that’s chalk and cheese... or should we say marble and mozzarella?
