Le Rallye Dakar 2017 s’élancera le 2 janvier d’Asunción, capitale du Paraguay, en direction de La Paz en Bolivie et retour à Buenos Aires, en Argentine, pour une arrivée le 14 janvier quelque 9000 kilomètres plus tard. Qui va succéder à Price (KTM/Michelin) et Peterhansel/Cottret (Peugeot/Michelin).
Le Paraguay sera donc le 29e pays différent visité par le Rallye Dakar. Asunción, sa capitale, accueillera le départ et un prologue. Le rallye fera ensuite un crochet par l’Argentine, San Miguel de Tucuman et San Salvador de Jujuy, avant de passer en Bolivie et de mettre le cap sur la plus haute capitale du monde, La Paz, à 4000 mètres où se tiendra la journée de repos le 8 janvier.
Les concurrents descendront ensuite le long de la Cordillère des Andes jusqu’à San Juan, en passant par Uyuni, Salta et Chilecito. Ils bifurqueront à gauche pour traverser l’Argentine jusqu’à Buenos Aires qui organisera l’arrivée du Dakar pour la 5e fois.
Les organisateurs annoncent plus de 50% du parcours renouvelé et des paysages à couper le souffle, notamment le Lac Titicaca en Bolivie et magnifiques sommets andins
D’ici-là, les teams vont peaufiner leur préparation. Certains motards vont disputer le Merzouga Rally (21-27 mai), première manche des Dakar Series 2016. Peugeot Sport a annoncé l’engagement de trois 2008 DKR/Michelin au Silk Way Rally (9-24 juillet) pour Peterhansel, Loeb et Despres.

Paraguay is to become the 29th different country to be visited by the Dakar, since its capital Asunción has been chosen to host the start and prologue of the 2017 event. The route will then head into Argentina (San Miguel de Tucuman and San Salvador de Jujuy) before crossing into Bolivia where competitors will get to discover the world’s highest capital, La Paz (altitude: 4,000 metres), on the rest day (January 8).
Survivors will then follow the Andes Mountains south to San Juan, Argentina, via Uyuni, Salta and Chilecito, before crossing the country to Buenos Aires where the finish will be held for the fifth time.
The organisers say that more than half the route is new and that the scenery will be breath-taking, especially Lake Titicaca in Bolivia and the Andean peaks.
In the meantime, the teams are getting on with their preparations. A number of bikers will take part in the Merzouga Rally, round one of the 2016 Dakar Series, on May 21-27, while Peugeot Sport is sending three Michelin-equipped 2008 DKRs to the Silk Way Rally (July 9-24) for Peterhansel, Loeb and Despres.
