Replaces range-topping R500
Caterham has revealed the 620R which will serve as a replacement for the range-toppingR500 model.
Set to make its public debut this weekend at Goodwood Festival of Speed, the 620R is powered by a 2.0-liter Ford Duratec engine tweaked to output 311 bhp (232 kW) at 7,700 rpm and 219 lb-ft (296 Nm) of torque at 7,350 rpm. This setup will enable the 620R to complete the 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) run in 2.79 seconds.
It comes with a gunmetal chassis and a race-spec cooling system, together with a new nose cone modified to improve airflow. The Caterham 620R has a De Dion rear suspension and sits on 13-inch alloys shod in Avon ZZR tires. On the inside it has gained "performance-focused instrumentation and ergonomic switchgear", along with a Q/R race-spec steering wheel, race seats and carbon fiber interior panels.
It will go on sale later this year at a starting price of 49,995 GBP (58,000 EUR / 74,600 USD) which makes it 7,500 GBP (8,700 EUR / 11,200 USD) more expensive than the outgoing R500.
