This year’s Dakar was won by Spain’s Nani Roma and his French co-driver Michel Périn in their Mini ALL4 Racing. Stéphane Peterhansel and Nasser Al-Attiyah rounded off the podium which was monopolised by Mini/Michelin drivers.

Nani Roma overcame the drama of the penultimate day to collect his first Dakar victory on four wheels today, exactly a decade after his success on two wheels.
The event’s final competitive section was won by Giniel de Villiers who put his Toyota Hilux/Michelin at the top of the timesheet for the first time this year. The 157km test saw the South African beat Poland’s Holowczyc (Mini) and Russian driver Vasyliev (Mini). The three drivers were covered by less than a minute.
Roma first appeared in the lead briefly at the end of Leg 3 but recovered top spot two days later, 31 and 39 minutes clear of Terranova and Peterhansel respectively.
The latter managed to fight his way gradually closer to the standings’ sharp end before X-Raid’s management introduced team orders in Roma’s favour on Thursday. That, however, didn’t prevent Peterhansel from disobeying and going 26 seconds ahead on Friday evening’s leaderboard.
He then lifted today, though, to allow team-mate Nani Roma to collect a third straight win for the Mini ALL4 Racing, and the fourth in the career of his co-driver Michel Périn.
The Spaniard was joined on the all-Mini/Michelin podium by Stéphane Peterhansel (2nd) and Nasser Al-Attiyah (3rd), while Giniel de Villiers came fourth, ahead of Argentina’s Orlando Terranova (Mini). Fellow Mini drivers Holowczyc (Mini) and Dabrowski (Mini) followed in sixth and seventh places, and Christian Lavieille (8th) saved the honour of Haval which had led after Day 1 thanks to Carlos Sousa. Nine Michelin-equipped Minis figured in the final top 15 overall!
It initially seemed as though Gerard de Rooy (Iveco/Michelin) had triumphed in the Truck category, but Karginov was reportedly blocked on the stage, so the positions are currently provisional.
Après les rebondissements de l’avant-dernière étape, tout est rentré dans l’ordre établi avant-hier entre La Serena et Valparaiso : Nani Roma a bien remporté son 1er Dakar en catégorie Auto, après une victoire obtenue à moto il y a exactement dix ans.
La dernière spéciale du Dakar 2014 a été remportée par Giniel de Villiers qui a enfin réussi à imposer son Toyota Hilux/Michelin cette année. A l’issue des 157 km chronométrés, le Sud-Africain a devancé le Polonais Holowczyc (Mini) et le Russe Vasyliev (Mini), tous trois terminant dans la même minute.
Nani Roma avait pris la tête du rallye une 1ère fois à l’issue de la 3e étape. De nouveau leader après une belle performance dans la 5e étape, l’Espagnol comptait alors 31 minutes d’avance sur Terranova et 39 minutes sur Peterhansel.
Le Français est peu à peu revenu en haut des classements et avant l’antépénultième étape, le patron du team X-Raid a décidé de figer les positions en tête, en faveur de Roma. Mais hier, c’est Peterhansel qui a remporté l’étape et repris les rênes de la course pour 26 secondes.
Finalement, tout est rentré dans l’ordre au sein du team X-Raid dans cet ultime secteur chronométré. Nani Roma a remporté le Dakar 2014, offrant un 3e succès consécutif à la Mini ALL4 Racing sur cette épreuve et une 4e victoire à son copilote Michel Périn.
Derrière Stéphane Peterhansel (2e), Nasser Al-Attiyah complète un tiercé Mini/Michelin Giniel de Villiers échoue au pied du podium, devant l’Argentin Orlando Terranova (Mini). Holowczyc (Mini) et Dabrowski (Mini) terminent aux 6e et 7e places devant Christian Lavieille (8e) qui sauve l’honneur du team Haval, 1er leader du rallye avec Carlos Sousa. Neuf Mini ALL4 Racing/Michelin pointent dans le top-15 final !
En Camion, Gerard de Rooy (Iveco/Michelin) a franchi la ligne d’arrivée de la dernière spéciale en 1er, mais le leader du classement général, Karginov, a été bloqué. Le classement final de la catégorie Camion n’est donc pas définitif.
