Dakar 2016 étape 3 : Triplés Honda et doublé Peugeot / 1-2-3 glory for Honda and a 1-2 for Peugeot

Joan Barreda (Honda/Michelin) a remporté la 3e étape du Dakar 2016 et prend la tête de l’épreuve devant deux pilotes « privés », le Slovaque Stefan Svitko (KTM) et l’Argentin Kevin Benavides (Honda). Sébastien Loeb (Peugeot/Michelin) a remporté sa seconde victoire consécutive et conserve les rênes chez les Autos avec plus de cinq minutes d’avance sur ses adversaires. 

Comme la veille, et toujours à cause d’une météo maussade au nord de l’Argentine, les organisateurs ont dû raccourcir la 3e spéciale entre Termas de Rio Hondo et San Salvador de Jujuy. Le départ a été donné au CP1 pour seulement 190 km chronométrés à parcourir sur les pistes sinueuses des contreforts andins au lieu des 314 prévus.

 

En Motos, le pilote officiel HRC Joan Barreda a retrouvé la forme après sa relative contre-performance de la 2e étape. Sur cette spéciale technique, l’Espagnol a pointé en tête à tous les CP pour s’imposer et prendre les commandes du rallye.

 

Les Honda CRF 450 Rally/Michelin ont d’ailleurs réalisé un festival puisque l’Argentin Kevin Benavides (+26s) et le Portugais Paulo Gonçalves (+52s) complètent le podium du jour.

 

Le premier pilote officiel KTM est le quadruple champion du monde d’Enduro Antoine Meo, 4e à 53s du vainqueur. Il devance Stefan Svitko, 5e à 57s sur sa KTM « privée », qui s’installe à la 2e place du général provisoire, à 14s du leader Barreda.

 

Vainqueur hier, leader du général et premier sur la piste, Toby Price (KTM) a perdu plus de 8 minutes sur la 3e étape et se retrouve à la 10e place. Ruben Faria (Husqvarna) a concédé près de 6 minutes et pointe désormais au 8e rang.

En Autos, Sébastien Loeb (Peugeot/Michelin) a plutôt bien négocié le fait d’ouvrir la piste puisqu’il a remporté sa seconde victoire consécutive sur ce Dakar et conforte sa première place au classement général.

Le Français a creusé l’écart en fin de parcours, laissant les anciens vainqueurs du Dakar Carlos Sainz (Peugeot) à 1min23s, Nasser Al-Attiyah (Mini) à 1min25s, Giniel de Villiers (Toyota) à 2min02s et Stéphane Peterhansel (Peugeot) à 2min52s. L’ex-pilote WRC Mikko Hirvonen (Mini) a signé le 3e meilleur temps à 2min49s de Loeb.

 

Les pilotes officiels Toyota Gazoo Racing Leeroy Poulter et Yazeed Al-Rajhi ont terminé dans le top-ten du jour, alors que ceux du Team X-Raid, Vladimir Vasiliev, Nani Roma et Orlando Terranova, ont cédé plus de six minutes aujourd’hui.

 

La course Camions a été stoppée au CP2 après l’effondrement de la piste. Les Man/Michelin de Stacey et Versluis sont toujours en tête devant l’Iveco de Gerard de Rooy.

Stage 3 of the 2016 Dakar was won by Joan Barreda (Honda/Michelin) who has gone to the top of the provisional motorbike classification, ahead of privateers Stefan Svitko (KTM) from Slovakia and Argentina’s Kevin Benavides (Honda). On four wheels, Sébastien Loeb (Peugeot/Michelin) collected his second win in a row to emerge more than five minutes clear in the car class. 

Once again, poor weather forced the organisers to shorten Stage 3 between Termas de Rio Hondo and San Salvador de Jujuy. The start was finally given at PC1, which cut the planned competitive distance from 314km to 190km as the route approached the Andes Mountains.

 

The bike battle saw HRC factory rider Joan Barreda make up for his relative counter-performance on Monday. The Spaniard was fastest at all the twisty, technical stage’s passage controls, going on to claim the best time and ease ahead in the overall order.

 

Fellow Honda CRF 450 Rally/Michelin riders Kevin Benavides from Argentina (+26s) Paulo Gonçalves from Portugal (+52s) joined him on the podium.

 

The best-placed KTM representative was four-time Enduro world champion Antoine Meo (4th, +53s), chased by KTM privateer Svitko (5th, +57s) who is now second on the leaderboard, just 14s short of Barreda.

 

Yesterday’s winner Toby Price (KTM) dropped more than eight minutes and has fallen to 10th overall. Ruben Faria (Husqvarna) lost almost six minutes and is down to eighth.

 

On four wheels, Sébastien Loeb (Peugeot/Michelin) clearly coped well with running first on the road since he was fastest for the second day running and has pulled out a handsome cushion at the top of the leaderboard.

 

The Frenchman was notably faster towards the end of SS3 and he ended up beating former Dakar winners Carlos Sainz (Peugeot) and Nasser Al-Attiyah (Mini) by 1m23s and 1min25s respectively. Ex-WRC star Mikko Hirvonen (Mini, +2m49s), Giniel de Villiers (Toyota, +2m2s) and Stéphane Peterhansel (Peugeot, +2m52s) were third, fourth and fifth.

 

Toyota Gazoo Racing’s Leeroy Poulter and Yazeed Al-Rajhi both earned places in today’s top 10, but Team X-Raid drivers Vladimir Vasiliev, Nani Roma and Orlando Terranova all dropped more than six minutes.

 

The truck competitors were halted at PC2 following a landslide. The Michelin-equipped Mans of Stacey and Versluis are currently in front, followed by Gerard de Rooy’s Iveco.

Dakar 2016 Dakar, étape 2 : Loeb et Price en tête / Loeb and Price earn early leads

L’Australien Toby Price (KTM/Michelin) a remporté l’étape Motos et pris la tête du général pour deux secondes devant Ruben Faria (Husqvarna). Chez les Autos, Sébastien Loeb a créé la sensation en remportant la première « vraie » spéciale du Dakar 2016 au volant de la Peugeot 2008 DKR/Michelin. 

Entre Villa Carlos Paz et Termas de Rio Hondo, ce devait être une des plus longues spéciales du Dakar 2016 avec quelque 500 km à parcourir contre le chronomètre. Mais en raison des orages qui ont frappé la région de Cordoba, les organisateurs ont dû raccourcir le tracé du jour à 354 km pour les motards et 386 km pour les autos/camions.

 

En Motos, Toby Price (KTM/Michelin) fut pointé en tête aux CP1 et CP2. Comme l’an passé le pilote australien a brillé sur ces pistes roulantes des plaines argentines. Il a remporté la première « vraie » spéciale du Dakar 2016 avec 20s d’avance sur le Portugais Ruben Faria (Husqvarna) et 1min28s sur Stefan Svitko (KTM).

 

Au classement général, ces trois hommes composent également le podium provisoire devant Alain Duclos (Sherco) et Matthias Walkner (KTM), respectivement 4e et 5e du jour.

Joan Barreda (Honda), qui ouvrait la route, s’est embourbé et a perdu plus de trois minutes. Il se retrouve 7e du général derrière son équipier Paulo Gonçalves (Honda) qui avait déjà concédé une minute lors du prologue.

 

En Autos, Sébastien Loeb, vainqueur à Termas de Rio Hondo l’an passé en WTCC, est arrivé en tête du Dakar au bivouac installé sur le circuit argentin ! Le nonuple champion du monde WRC a remporté sa première spéciale en Rallye Tout-Terrain et offert la première victoire à la Peugeot 2008 DKR/Michelin sur le Rallye Dakar.

Sur une spéciale typée WRC, qui démarrait d’ailleurs tout près des pistes utilisées par le Rallye d’Argentine, le Français a pris les commandes à partir du WayPoint 2. Au CP1, il comptait 35s d’avance sur Stéphane Peterhansel (Peugeot), alors que son équipier Carlos Sainz (Peugeot) avait perdu plus de 13 minutes sur des problèmes mécaniques.

Sébastien Loeb a augmenté son avance au fil des kilomètres pour conclure l’étape avec 2min23s d’avance sur « Monsieur Dakar » Stéphane Peterhansel et 2min38s sur Vasiliev (Mini) Son ancien adversaire du WRC Mikko Hirvonen (Mini) a terminé à une excellente 5e place derrière Giniel de Villiers (Toyota).

Le vainqueur sortant Nasser Al-Attiyah (Mini) n’a pris que la 7e place à 4min18s. Autres favoris, Nani Roma (Mini) et son équipier Orlando Terranova (Mini) se sont embourbés au km 183.

Au général, Sébastien Loeb est leader avec 2min23s d’avance sur Peterhansel et Vladimir Vasiliev. De Villiers, Hirvonen et Despres complètent le top-six provisoire.

Victory in the bike category on today’s stage went to Toby Price (KTM/Michelin) who consequently tops the provisional order, two seconds clear of Ruben Faria (Husqvarna). Sébastien Loeb caused a sensation on four wheels by setting the fastest time on the first true stage of this year’s Dakar in his Michelin-equipped Peugeot 2008 DKR.

The run from Villa Carlos Paz to Termas de Rio Hondo was supposed to have included one of the longest stages of this year’s Dakar, with approximately 500 kilometres planned against the clock. However, further poor weather in the Cordoba region forced the organisers to shorten the distance to 354km for the bikers and to 386km for the car/truck competitors.

On two wheels, Toby Price (KTM/Michelin) led up to PC1 and PC2 to repeat the speed he showed on north central Argentina’s smooth tracks in 2015 and ultimately claim the first normal stage of the rally, 20 seconds and 1m28s clear of Portugal’s Ruben Faria (Husqvarna) and Stefan Svitko (KTM) respectively.

The same three riders occupy the provisional podium ahead of Alain Duclos (Sherco) and Matthias Walkner (KTM) who were fourth and fifth today.

Joan Barreda (Honda), who was first on the road, dropped more than three minutes when he got stuck in mud and is currently seventh overall, behind team-mate Paulo Gonçalves who conceded a minute on Saturday’s Prologue.

On four wheels, Sébastien Loeb, winner of the Termas de Rio Hondo round of last season’s World Touring Car Championship, reached tonight’s bivouac at the Argentine circuit with the day’s best time to his name. By collecting the first cross-country rally stage win of his career, the nine-time world rally champion secured the Peugeot 2008 DKR/Michelin’s first Dakar stage victory.

The WRC-style test kicked off not far from the area visited by the WRC’s Rally Argentina and the Frenchman was fastest up to Way Point 2. By PC1, he led team-mate Stéphane Peterhansel by 35s, while fellow Peugeot runner Carlos Sainz (Peugeot) dropped more than 13 minutes due to mechanical problems.

Loeb then extended his advantage to end the test with a cushion of 2m23s over multiple Dakar winner Peterhansel and 2m38s clear of Vasiliev (Mini). His former WRC rival Mikko Hirvonen (Mini) was a commendable fifth, behind Giniel de Villiers (Toyota).

Last year’s Dakar victor Nasser Al-Attiyah was seventh (+4m18s), but his Mini team-mates Nani Roma and Orlando Terranova both got stuck in mud at Km183.

Loeb tops this evening’s leaderboard, 2m23s clear of Peterhansel and Vasiliev. De Villiers, Hirvonen and Despres round out the provisional top six.
