After the performance he produced in Finland, Kris Meeke has been named to replace Dani Sordo in the Citroën-Total Abu Dhabi WRT squad that will travel to Rally Australia (September 12-15).
Après une prestation remarquée en Finlande, Kris Meeke va remplacer Dani Sordo au sein du Citroën-Total Abu Dhabi WRT à l’occasion du Rallye d’Australie (12-15 septembre).
Although Neste Oil Rally Finland was his first WRC outing since 2011, Kris Meeke was heading for fifth place until a crash on the penultimate stage.
The Ulsterman’s speed did not fail to attract the attention of Citroën Racing team boss Yves Matton, however, and it was announced yesterday (Monday) that Kris will replace Spain’s Dani Sordo in Australia. He will share the N°3 DS3 WRC (Citroën-Total Abu Dhabi WRT) with co-driver Chris Patterson alongside Mikko Hirvonen/Jarmo Lehtinen.
It will be his first attempt at the Coffs Harbour-based Rally Australia, an event that saw Sordo come third in 2009. The Spaniard will still be part of the French make’s line-up for Rallye Deutschland where he is expected to be more in his element on the all asphalt stages.
Pour son retour en WRC depuis 2011, le Britannique Kris Meeke s’acheminait vers la 5e place finale du Neste Oil Rally Finland avant une sortie de route dans l’avant-dernière spéciale.
Malgré cette fin de course gâchée, sa prestation n’est pas passé inaperçue aux yeux d’Yves Matton. Citroën Racing a confirmé hier que Kris Meeke remplacera l’Espagnol Dani Sordo au sein du Citroën-Total Abu Dhabi WRT sur la DS3 WRC n°3. Meeke et son copilote Chris Patterson feront donc équipe avec Mikko Hirvonen et Jarmo Lehtinen.
Kris Meeke n’a jamais disputé le Rallye d’Australie qui se déroulera à Coffs Harbour du 12 au 15 septembre, alors que Sordo avait terminé 3e de cette épreuve en 2009. L’Espagnol va donc se concentrer sur le prochain Rallye d’Allemagne sur asphalte, sa surface de prédilection.
