Ma Qing Hua réalisa un tour magnifique en 1:48.898 en Q3 sur son circuit à domicile. Mais ce ne fut pas suffisant pour priver son équipier et leader du championnat du Monde, José-Maria López, d’une nouvelle pole position.
L’Argentin en ajoute ainsi une cinquième à son impressionnante première saison en WTCC. Il a pour cela signé un chrono spectaculaire dans le premier secteur (41.868) et s’est ainsi assuré de disposer d’une marge de 3/10e d’avance sur Ma. Le second fut moins bon, mais le troisième fit définitivement pencher la balance en sa faveur avec un temps de 1:48.782. Le premier secteur fut également crucial pour Yvan Muller qui perdit dans cette portion toute chance d’inquiéter López et Ma à la fin du tour.
Citroën n’est donc désormais plus qu’à deux points de décrocher le titre mondial Constructeurs, et Norbert Michelisz fit ce qu’il put pour s’immiscer dans le carré d’as de Citroën et devança Sébastien Loeb en quatrième position sur la meilleure des Honda
Q1 – Malgré une légère averse apparue quelques minutes avant le départ, la poste est sèche lorsque les concurrents d’élancent.
Les Citroën dominent la première partie de la session en monopolisant les quatre premières places. Après un bref passage de Tom Chilton (1:50.749) et Norbert Michelisz (1:50.312) aux avant-postes, Ma Qing Hua met définitivement tout le monde d’accord en 1:49.313.
Ses équipiers améliorent également : Yvan Muller se hisse en 2eposition (1:49.514), devant José María López (1:49.546) et Sébastien Loeb (1:49.875).
Aucun autre pilote ne parvient à passer sous la barre de 1’50’’ au tour. Chilton est le meilleur représentant Chevrolet au 5e rang (1:50.229) et précède la Honda de Gabriele Tarquini (1:50.226).
Après le week-end victorieux à Pékin la semaine dernière, le team LADA Sport connaît un meeting plus difficile et aucun de ses trois pilotes ne parvient à accéder à la Q2.
Les pilotes qualifiés en Q2: Ma, Muller, López, Loeb, Chilton, Tarquini, Michelisz, Monteiro, Coronel, Bennani, Borković et Valente. Franz Engstler décroche pour sa part la pole en TC2T.
Q2 – Quelques ondées sont annoncées dans le premier secteur lorsque le segment est lancé. Le quatuor de Citroën réalisent alors leurs meilleurs temps dès leur premier tour : Muller (1:49.299), López (1:49.418), Ma (1:49.436) et Loeb (1:49.579). Seul Michelisz réussit à rester au contact
(1:49.848), qui le place au 5e rang.
Une dernière tentative des quatre pilotes Honda de profiter de l’aspiration ne donne rien et Monteiro et Tarquini échouent aux 6e et 7eplaces, aux portes de la Q3. Dixième, Mehdi Bennani s’élancera en pole position de la Course 2.
Q3 – Michelisz est le premier en piste et décroche un brillant 1:49.681. Loeb suit dans l’ordre de passage mais le nonuple champion du monde des Rallyes ruine ses chances en touchant une pile de pneus à la corde du dernier virage. Ma passe signe un superbe 1:48.898, mais López fait encore mieux (1:48.782) tandis que Muller doit se résoudre à se contenter de la 3e place avec un tour en 1:49.424.

And yet, this was not enough to prevent his team-mate and current championship leader José María López from adding another pole position (the fifth so far) to the impressive tally of his first complete season in WTCC.The Argentine staked a claim on the pole with a spectacular split time in the first sector (41.868) that gave him a three-tenth margin over Ma. And despite a disappointing second sector that cost him the whole advantage, López was able to sprint in the third sector, completing the lap in 1:48.782. The first sector was also crucial for Yvan Muller, who ruined his chances of challenging López and Ma for the pole.This result meant that Citroën is now only two points away from securing the Manufacturers’ title, although Norbert Michelisz did his best to spoil the French manufacturer’s party and qualified in fourth, ahead of Sébastien Loeb and best of the Honda cars.
Q1 – The track was dry in spite of a shower that fell a few minutes before the start.The Citroën cars dominated the first part of the session, filling the first four positions. After brief spells on top from Tom Chilton (1:50.749) and Norbert Michelisz (1:50.312), Ma Qing Hua posted the fastest time for good (1:49.313).His team-mates improved to rank immediately behind him: Yvan Muller in second (1:49.514), José María López in third (1:49.546) and Sébastien Loeb in fourth (1:49.875).None of the other drivers was able to break the 1:50 mark. Chilton was the best of the Chevrolet men in fifth (1:50.229) ahead of Gabriele Tarquini’s Honda (1:50.226).After the winning weekend in Beijing last week, the LADA Sport team was disappointed by seeing all his three drivers missing the cut for Q2.The following drivers advanced to Q2: Ma, Muller, López, Loeb, Chilton, Tarquini, Michelisz, Monteiro, Coronel, Bennani, Borković and Valente. Franz Engstler set the pole in the TC2T class.
Q2 – A light rain was reported on the first sector when the drivers returned to the track. The Citroën quartet settled the matter on their first lap: Muller (1:49.299), López (1:49.418), Ma (1:49.436) and Loeb (1:49.579). Only Michelisz was capable of setting a lap time close to theirs: a 1:49.848 that placed him in fifth position.A final attempt of the four Honda drivers to play the slipstreaming game came to nothing. Monteiro and Tarquini remained in sixth and seventh, out of Q3.Mehdi Bennani won pole position on the top-ten reverse grid for the second race.
Q3 – Michelisz was the first on the track and posted a brilliant 1:49.681. Loeb followed, but the nine-time WRC champion spoiled his chances by hitting the stack of tyres at the apex of the final turn. Then Ma broke the 1:49 barrier and posted an outstanding 1:48.898. López did even better and improved to 1:48.782, while Muller had to settle in third position with a lap of 1:49.424.
