Les pilotes du team Movistar Yamaha MotoGP retrouvent ce week-end un de leurs circuits de prédilection et profiteront en plus du travail réalisé lors de leurs essais post-GP à Barcelone puis au MotorLand Aragón.
Deuxième à Barcelone après s'être battu pour la victoire durant presque toute la course, Valentino Rossi retrouve ce week-end l'un des circuits où il a remporté le plus de victoires au long de sa carrière en Grand Prix. L'Italien compte un total de huit victoires à Assen, dont six en MotoGP™, en comptant celle de l'an dernier.
« Assen est un excellent circuit et une bonne piste pour Yamaha, » a commenté Rossi. « La météo peut jouer un rôle important là-bas. On ne sait jamais s'il va faire chaud ou froid, sec ou humide. La course de l'an dernier avait été inoubliable pour moi mais cette année je me sens fort presque partout et nous devrons donc essayer de battre nos concurrents. »
Lorenzo a lui aussi un bon palmarès à Assen, où il a gagné en 125cc, en 250cc et en MotoGP™. L'Espagnol cherchera une fois de plus à renouer avec la victoire ce week-end après avoir travaillé sur son YZR-M1 au test post-GP de Barcelone puis lors d'essais privés au MotorLand Aragón.
« Après un week-end décevant à Barcelone, où j'avais fait de mon mieux malgré des circonstances qui ne nous aidaient pas, nous nous rendons aux Pays-Bas avec beaucoup d'optimisme, » a déclaré Lorenzo. « Nous avons manqué d'accélération à Barcelone, notamment sur la seconde partie du circuit, sur laquelle nous avions été plus performants par le passé. »
« Nous avons ensuite eu deux journées d'essais, nous avons trouvé des solutions pour résoudre ce problème et nous avons testé de nouvelles choses pour essayer de réduire l'écart sur nos rivaux. Je suis impatient de courir à Assen, c'est probablement mon circuit préféré. C'est un bon tracé, avec des virages rapides et une ligne droite assez courte, ce qui va bien à la Yamaha. Je n'ai pas pu avoir de bons résultats ces dernières années mais j'ai toujours trouvé de bons réglages et bien roulé là-bas. L'an dernier j'avais fini cinquième juste après m'être fait opérer de la clavicule, ça avait été très douloureux mais j'avais finalement pu terminer une course très spéciale. »
After another thrilling race in Catalunya and subsequent tests at the same circuit, plus a test visit to Aragon, Movistar Yamaha MotoGP arrive in Assen primed for action.
The last round saw Valentino Rossi fight a hard battle for a well-deserved second place and Jorge Lorenzo come home fourth. Both riders are keen on another chance to show their fighting spirit at the TT Assen this Saturday.
Rossi looks forward to continuing his battles during the eighth round of the championship staged at one of his most successful circuits. The Italian, who currently holds second place in the championship standings, has won at Assen a total of eight times, six of these victories being in the MotoGP class.
“Assen is a great track and a good track for Yamaha,” comments Rossi. “The weather will be very important here. You never know if it will be hot or cold or dry or wet. Last year's race was unforgettable but honestly this year I feel I am strong almost everywhere so we have to try hard to beat the competition.”
Rossi’s teammate Lorenzo also has a good track record at the TT circuit. The Spaniard has won there four times in total across all World Championship classes (125cc, 250cc and MotoGP). Lorenzo will try to push this total up to five with some help of the small set up changes made during the post-Catalunya IRTA Test and subsequent private Aragon test to improve the acceleration and the stability of his bike.
“After a bit of a disappointing weekend in Barcelona where I gave my best even when some circumstances didn’t help us, we travel to Holland with plenty of optimism,” states Lorenzo. “In Barcelona we struggled a bit with the acceleration, especially in the last part of the track where we used to be so strong in the past. This year that issue didn’t allow me to fight in front for the victory.”
“Afterwards during two test days we found some solutions to solve that problem and we tested new things to try to cut off the distance with our main rivals. I look forward to racing in Assen, it’s maybe my favorite circuit. It’s a nice layout defined by some quick corners and a short straight that looks good for us, and especially for the Yamaha. In recent years I couldn’t got so many good results but instead I always could find a good set up and ride in my best way. Last season I finished fifth after a surgery on my collarbone and I suffered a lot but finally I could conclude a very special race.”
