    Rallyraid: The new Schlesser customer racer - 4x4 Mercedes instead of buggy.

    We proudly present: This is the Schlesser SP01 rallyraid car. Contrary to popular belief it is not a car wich will propel "Le Patron" Jean-Louis Schlesser to new carrier heights, it is the first prototype of more to be built for sale or rent.

    The rallycar is intended for those who seek a relatively low cost solution yet capable of winning races on an international level benefitting from the technical know-how of several decades. Surprise: A Mercedes-powered 4x4 instead of a 2-wheel buggy.

    The car was designed by Frank Papp and Jean Louis Schlesser, keeping in foreground the concept of simplicity coupled with reliability and speed. "We didnt want to reinvent the wheel... Thanks to the efforts of my great team, we just built a reliable fast car matched by an excellent quality in workmanship," Frank Papp reported.

    To ensure on time availability and affordability, many components were developed in house like differentials, steering gear, hydraulic jack system etc. Power is provided by the latest version of the 3.0 liter Mercedes turbo diesel, however a petrol variant will also be available in future models. This is coupled to a 6-speed sequential Sadev gearbox and the whole driveline unit is situated low to the center of the vehicle.

    On both sides of the gearbox sit the two sparewheels beneath the driver and navigator seats. 400 liters of fuel fit in a fuel safe tank, equally enough for diesel and petrol engines. Cooling of all the systems is provided by a rear mounted radiator, while the comfort of the racing duo is aided by an off road air conditioning unit.

    On the suspension side: Equal length A-arms front/rear and identical uprights make parts logistics simple. The car has completed several tests in France, Italy and Hungary and ran flawlessly, now is eager to win some races. For more informations contact Albert Horn via Email [ahorn@xsport.us ].
