Le Rallye du Portugal 2015 s’est élancé ce matin avec la séance de mise au point remportée par Andreas Mikkelsen au volant de la VW Polo R WRC spec. 2015. Derrière les trois Volkswagen, Ott Tanak et Dani Sordo ont signé le même chrono.
Le Shakedown du Rallye du Portugal 2015 était situé à 40 km du parc de Matosinhos, près de Baltar. La spéciale, longue de 4,63 km, avait été tracée au bulldozer. La piste, large sur une terre compacte, traversait une pinède avant de déboucher sur une piste de karting. Le Rallye du Portugal avait déjà visité ces lieux, en d’autres temps…
Les concurrents WRC ont quitté le parc dès l’aube pour être à 7h30 au départ de ce Shakedown. L’idée était d’enchaîner trois ou quatre passages avant de rentrer sur Porto. Sauf Mads Ostberg, contraint de revenir à l’assistance après un tonneau à 500 mètres du départ ! De quoi occuper les mécanos de l’équipe Citroën-Total Abu Dhabi toute la matinée…
Sébastien Ogier (VW Polo R WRC) a signé le premier temps de référence en 3min16s6 devant Latvala (3min17s5), Meeke (3min18s5) et Tanak/Sordo ex-aequo (3min18s8). Jari-Matti Latvala a ensuite amélioré en 3min15s3, puis Seb Ogier a repris la « pole » en 3min12s6.
Dans sa quatrième tentative, Andreas Mikkelsen finalement a remporté le Shakedown du Rallye du Portugal 2015 en 3min11s3. Pour son retour en WRC, Robert Kubica a réalisé le 6e meilleur temps à son 5e tour, devant Kris Meeke et Hayden Paddon.
En WRC-2, après deux passages, le meilleur chrono avait été réalisé par Nasser Al-Attiyah (Ford) en 3min22s3 devant Pontus Tidemand sur la nouvelle Skoda Fabia R5 (3min23s9) et Stéphane Lefebvre (Citroën) en 3min25s8.
Après les traditionnelles conférences de presse, les concurrents vont prendre la direction de Guimaraes en début d’après-midi pour la cérémonie de départ, avant la Superspéciale de Lousada à partir de 19h00.
The 2015 Rally de Portugal got underway this morning with the shakedown session which was won by Andreas Mikkelsen in his 2015-spec Polo R WRC. Ott Tanak and Dani Sordo ended up with identical times behind VW’s trio.
4.63km shakedown stage was near Baltar, around 40km from the Matosinhos service park. The wide, hard-packed test had been formed by a bulldozer and traversed a pine forest before ending next to a karting track. It wasn’t the Portuguese WRC round’s first visit to the place.
The WRC crews pulled out of service at sunrise – 7:30am local time – with the intention of completing three or four passes before returning to Porto. All except Mads Ostberg who headed straight back after rolling 500 metres after the start line! That should keep Citroën-Total Abu Dhabi’s mechanics busy for a while!
Sébastien Ogier (VW Polo R WRC) posted the first benchmark time (3m16.6s), ahead of Latvala (+0.9s), Meeke (+1.9s) and Tanak/Sordo (+2.2s). Elfyn Evans then improved to 3min14s before Ogier recovered top spot with a 3m12.6s.
Mikkelsen produced the best effort of the morning at his fourth attempt, however, with a 3m11.3s. WRC returnee Robert Kubica was sixth fastest after his fifth pass, ahead of Kris Meeke and Hayden Paddon.
After two passes, the WRC2 order was led by Nasser Al-Attiyah (Ford, 3m22.3s), ahead of Pontus Tidemand in the new Skoda Fabia R5 (3m23.9s) and Citroën’s Stéphane Lefebvre (3m25.8s).
Next up is the pre-event press conference before crews head out to Guimaraes for this afternoon’s start ceremony, followed by the Lousada super-special which will start at 7pm.
