The Ducati SportClassic – the café racer ahead of its time

The first off-the-shelf café racer, the Ducati SportClassic was ahead of its time in 2006, but as with many things ahead of their time, the public reception was not great and just 10,000 were built. Now, with the revitalisation of the café racer, everyone wants one — hindsight is 20/20…

    Reawakening

The Ducati SportClassic 1000 ‘Elaborazione’ featured here was built in the first year of construction, and after three years in its stock configuration, it’s been upgraded by its current owner — a former aircraft engineer — to be more reminiscent of a 1973 Ducati 750 Sport. Its new features include a fully adjustable Showa fork, one-inch raised clip-on handle bars, twin alloy Termignoni exhausts, a period fibreglass tail unit adapted to the subframe, hidden LED indicators, and brake cylinders with integrated cast reservoirs. With just 12,500 miles on its odometer, the bike also comes with new Pirelli Angel GT tyres and all its original parts, which have been carefully stored since the upgrades. While hindsight couldn’t help you in 2006, you can use it now to ensure you won’t miss out again on this rare opportunity to acquire a SportClassic.
