When the best-loved automotive classics start to float in mid-air, Renaud Marion is usually there behind the camera. His retro-futuristic creations are now on view in the MB&F M.A.D. Gallery in Geneva…
“As a child, I dreamed of flying cars, spaceships, parallel worlds, extra-terrestrials living with us on earth and time travel,” says Renaud Marion. Growing up in the 1980s, he was influenced by Star Wars – but also by the futuristic machines of the French artist, Moebius. “In my mind, we would have all been dressed up in space outfits and equipped with laser pistols. These are the dreams of a normal child, I think… I hope.”
And so the classics learned to fly...
In 2012, the French photographer started to create his Air Drive series of images, bringing to life the ‘hovercars’ of his childhood dreams. The images featured borrowed cars, placed against backdrops of 1970s architecture.
The ‘Air Drive’ exhibition by Renaud Marion can currently be seen at the MB&F M.A.D. Gallery in Geneva.
