WSBK ; Rea domine la seconde séance d’essais à Imola / Rea moves to the top after Imola FP2

Le Britannique a établi le meilleur temps de la journée à la fin de la seconde séance.

Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team), le leader du Championnat du Monde eni FIM Superbike, a profité de la seconde séance d’essais de vendredi à Imola pour s’adjuger le meilleur temps en bouclant son dernier tour en 1’47.344. Le Britannique passait ainsi en tête du classement combiné, devant son coéquipier Tom Sykes, qui semblait en mesure de rivaliser sur son dernier tour mais a fini à 0.173s de Rea suite à une petite erreur dans la dernière chicane.

En tête à l’issue de la première séance, l’Aruba.it Racing - Ducati SBK Team était de nouveau aux avant-postes. De retour en piste après avoir manqué les quatre premières manches pour cause de blessure, Davide Giugliano s’est montré très compétitif et a fini la journée à 0.238s du temps de référence tandis que son coéquipier Chaz Davies est passé de la première à la quatrième position (+0.342s).

Leon Haslam (Aprilia Racing Team – Red Devils) conserve la cinquième place, à sept dixièmes de seconde de Rea, tandis que Alex Lowes (Voltcom Crescent Suzuki) était en progrès est monté à la sixième place, en étant toutefois à 1.3s du leader. 

Ayrton Badovini (BMW Motorrad Italia), David Salom (Team Pedercini), Leandro Mercado (Barni Racing) et le Champion en titre Sylvain Guintoli (Pata Honda World Superbike Team) complètent le Top 10 de la journée.

Michel Fabrizio (Althea Racing) a fini douzième, derrière son coéquipier Matteo Baiocco et devant Michael van der Mark (Pata Honda World Superbike Team), Leon Camier (MV Agusta Reparto Corse), seul pilote à ne pas avoir amélioré son chrono, et Jordi Torres (Aprilia Racing Team – Red Devils).

Randy de Puniet (Voltcom Crescent Suzuki) et Christophe Ponsson (Team Pedercini) étaient tous les deux tombé dans la première séance d’essais et sont respectivement 18e et 20e sur le classement combiné avant la dernière séance d’essais de samedi matin.

FP2 overall standings decided in final moments of an exciting session.

This afternoon’s FP2 saw Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team), the current leader of the eni FIM Superbike World championship leap to the top of the standings with his final lap in a close and exciting session that saw the combined classification change throughout. Rea ended the session ahead thanks to a 1.47.344s lap, despite strong opposition from team mate Tom Sykes who looked on course to move into first position until a small mistake at the final chicane on his final lap saw the former champion finish 2^nd overall (+0.173s).

The Aruba.it Racing - Ducati SBK Team were close to the top once more, as Davide Giugliano made a dream return to the WorldSBK paddock by posting the 3^rd fastest time of the weekend so far (+0.238s), fraction ahead of his team mate Chaz Davies who was 4^th(+0.342s) after being fastest in this morning’s FP1.

Leon Haslam (Aprilia Racing Team – Red Devils ) remained 5^th, as he had been in the earlier morning session (+0.710s), the rider currently second in the overall points classification finished the first day more than half a second faster than Alex Lowes who powered his Voltcom Crescent Suzuki into 6^th  (+1.316s).

Ayrton Badovini (BMW Motorrad Italia) improved his time but remained 7^th ahead of David Salom (Team Pedercini), the much faster Leandro Mercado (Barni Racing) and reigning World Champion Sylvain Guintoli (Pata Honda World Superbike Team) who was 10^th.

Michel Fabrizio (Althea Racing) finished 12^th just behind team mate Matteo Baiocco but just ahead of Michael van der Mark (Pata Honda World Superbike Team), Leon Camier (MV Agusta Reparto Corse) who was the only rider to not improve their time this afternoon, and Jordi Torres (Aprilia Racing Team – Red Devils) who completed the top 15.

All riders have one final chance to make it through into the Tissot-Superpole sessions, with the final FP3 session scheduled to run for a further 45 minutes tomorrow morning.
