WSBK ; Sykes wins Jerez Race 1 as Rea clinches WorldSBK crown

Rea a remporté le titre mondial en finissant quatrième d’une première course totalement dominée par son coéquipier à Jerez.

Qualifié en pole position, Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team) a réalisé une course parfaite pour s’imposer en solitaire, avec près de trois secondes d’avance, dans la première des deux épreuves de Jerez de la Frontera. Le Britannique remportait ainsi la 26e victoire de sa carrière, sa quatrième de l’année et son 60e podium dans la catégorie, lors d’une journée qui restera cependant marquée par le sacre de son coéquipier Jonathan Rea.

Installé en seconde position sur la grille comme en début de course, le Nord-Irlandais a fini par être devancé par Chaz Davies (Aruba.it Racing-Ducati SBK Team) puis Michael van der Mark (Pata Honda World Superbike Team), qui montaient donc sur le podium aux côtés de Sykes. Deuxième derrière Sykes, Davies ne compte plus que huit points d’avance sur le pilote Kawasaki dans la lutte pour le titre de vice-Champion. 

Van der Mark signait quant à lui son troisième podium en WorldSBK après ceux d'Assen, sur le circuit où il avait remporté le titre Supersport l'année précédente.

En finissant quatrième, Rea manquait le podium pour la toute première fois de la saison mais s’assurait un résultat amplement suffisant pour décrocher son premier titre WorldSBK à cinq courses de la fin de la saison, avec vingt podiums dont douze victoires en 21 courses. 

Leon Haslam (Aprilia Racing Team-Red Devils) a tenté à plusieurs reprises de doubler Rea mais a dû se contenter de la cinquième place devant Michele Pirro, qui remplace Davide Giugliano chez Ducati.

Alex Lowes (Voltcom Crescent Suzuki), Matteo Baiocco (Althea Racing), Leon Camier (MV Agusta Reparto Corse) et Sylvain Guintoli (Pata Honda World Superbike) complétaient un Top 10 sans le moindre Espagnol puisque David Salom (Team Pedercini), Jordi Torres (Aprilia Racing Team-Red Devils- et Román Ramos (Team Go Eleven Kawasaki) se sont classés de la onzième à la treizième places.

Randy de Puniet (Voltcom Crescent Suzuki) a terminé en seizième position. Christophe Ponsson (Team Pedercini) a de son côté dû ramener sa machine au garage en raison d’un problème technique.

2éme course ; Le pilote Ducati Davies s’est imposé devant Jordi Torres et Leon Haslam.

Dans des températures nettement plus élevées que celles de la première course de la journée, la seconde des deux épreuves du WorldSBK à Jerez a suivi un déroulement bien différent et permis à d’autres pilotes de s’illustrer sur la piste andalouse. 

Intouchable et vainqueur en solitaire le matin, Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team), qui partait en pole position, est à nouveau bien parti mais a eu beaucoup de mal à maintenir son rythme suite à la hausse des températures et a été battu par Chaz Davies (Aruba.it Racing-Ducati SBK Team) peu avant la mi-course.

Une fois passé en tête, le Gallois a creusé l’écart pour s’assurer sa neuvième victoire de la saison, devant Jordi Torres (Aprilia Racing Team-Red Devils), qui décrochait son meilleur résultat en WorldSBK, et Leon Haslam (Aprilia Racing Team-Red Devils), qui montaient sur le podium après avoir respectivement fini 12e et 5e le matin.

Tout juste couronné Champion du Monde Superbike 2015, Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team) a de nouveau terminé quatrième et aura vécu son sacre son monter sur le podium, qu’il n’avait jamais manqué cette saison avant le week-end de Jerez. 

En difficulté, Sykes n’a pas pu faire mieux que cinquième. Après avoir repris cinq points à Davies le matin, le Champion WorldSBK 2013 en concédait cette fois-ci douze au Gallois, qui compte 22 points d’avance dans la lutte pour le titre de vice-Champion.

Matteo Baiocco (Althea Racing), Michele Pirro (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati SBK Team), Leon Camier (MV Agusta Reparto Corse), Sylvain Guintoli (Pata Honda World SBK Team) et Leandro Mercado (Barni Racing) complétaient le Top 10 à l’arrivée tandis que Christophe Ponsson (Team Pedercini), contraint à l’abandon lors de la première course, prenait le point de la quinzième place.

Michael van der Mark (Pata Honda World Superbike Team) a chuté alors qu’il luttait pour le Top 5 et a terminé treizième. Alex Lowes (Voltcom Crescent Suzuki) a été pénalisé d’un ride through après être passé par la pit-lane dès le début de la course et a fini dix-huitième. 

Son coéquipier Randy de Puniet a pour sa part été contraint à abandonner sa moto en bord de piste en début de course et espèrera avoir un peu plus de réussite le week-end du 4 octobre à Magny-Cours lors de l’avant-dernière manche de la saison 2015.

The opening race of the Pirelli Spanish round of this year’s eni FIM Superbike World Championship has been won by Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team), the former champion notching up his 60^th WorldSBK career podium finish as team mate Jonathan Rea sealed his first World Title by finishing x after an early race fight with rival Chaz Davies (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati SBK Team) who eventually finished 2^nd. Sykes dominated after leading from the start easing away to take his 26^th race win.

Not wanting to risk a mistake, Rea was overhauled by Michael van der Mark who showed some real speed on his Pata Honda, the Dutchman claiming his 3^rd podium of the year ahead of the new World Champion and Leon Haslam (Aprilia Racing Team – Red Devils) who was in contention despite a lowly 11^th position grid slot.

Michele Pirro (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati SBK Team) finished a credible 6^th ahead of Voltcom Crescent Suzuki’s Alex Lowes, Matteo Baiocco (Althea Racing), Leon Camier (MV Agusta Reparto Corse) and the outgoing champ Sylvain Guintoli (Pata Honda World Superbike Team) who completed the top ten.

Jordi Torres made life difficult for himself, the Aprilia Racing Team – Red Devils rider running off track at the start. Rejoining he ended the opening lap in 18^th before eventually finishing 12^th 4 seconds adrift of compatriot David Salom (Team Pedercini) who had the accolade of being the best placed Spanish rider.

The final points finishers were Roman Ramos (Team Go Eleven), Leandro Mercado (Barni Racing) and Ayrton Badovini (BMW Motorrad Italia).

Niccolo Canepa (Althea Racing) was running a strong 4^th in the early stages before losing the front of his Ducati Panigale at Turn 6. The Italian, fresh from his first front row start was able to rejoin proceedings – he eventually finished 17^th.

Aprilia pair join Ducati winner on podium in race 2.

Chaz Davies (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati SBK Team) went one better than in race 1 to win the second race of the day at a very hot and sunny Jerez circuit in Spain.

Unlike the opening encounter race 1 winner Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team) was unable to break away after taking the holeshot for the second time and despite stretching his advantage in the early laps was passed with ten laps to go by Davies who went on to grab his 9^th win of 2015.

The race pace was slower this afternoon, as expected because of the increase in track temperature, with Davies pulling away in the second half of the race to win by x from Jordi Torres, who made amends for his race 1 and his Aprilia Racing Team – Red Devils team mate Leon Haslam who both overhauled early leader Sykes to complete the podium.

Fresh from winning the 2015 Superbike World Championship title in race 1, Jonathan Rea took another 4^th position aboard his Kawasaki ahead of race 1 winner Sykes who seemed to suffer in the hotter conditions.

The top 6 was completed by Matteo Baiocco (Althea Racing) ahead of Michele Pirro (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati SBK Team) who had another solid race to finish 7^th.

8^th to 10^th positions were taken by Leon Camier (MV Agusta Reparto Corse), Sylvain Guintoli (Pata Honda World SBK Team) and Leandro Mercado (Barni Racing).

Niccolo Canepa finished 11^th after starting on the front row aboard his Althea Racing Ducati with David Salom (Team Pedercini) finishing 12^th.

Michael van der Mark crashed his Pata Honda out of the podium fight with 5 laps to go. The Dutchman was however once again in contention until he lost the front at Turn 9. He rejoined to salvage 3 points with 13^th at the flag.

14^th was Ayrton Badovini (BMW Motorrad Italia) with the final point taken by the youngest competitor Christophe Ponsson (Team Pedercini).

Alex Lowes (Voltcom Crescent Suzuki) was given a ride through penalty after pulling into the pit lane after a lap, a disappointing end to his weekend after a strong showing in race 1.

By finishing 4^th and 5^th in race 2, Rea and Sykes give Kawasaki the 2015 FIM Manufacturer Title.

The penultimate round of the championship takes place in two weeks at the Magny-Cours circuit in France.
