WSSP ; Sofuoglu remporte son duel face à Cluzel à Assen / Sofuoglu wins Dutch WSS race after tense final lap fight

Le Turc s’est imposé suite à un contact qui a poussé le Français à la sortie de piste dans la dernière chicane.

Suite à un excellent départ de Kyle Smith (Pata Honda World Supersport Team), Jules Cluzel (MV Agusta Reparto Corse) et Kenan Sofuoglu (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) sont parvenus à progressivement reprendre les choses en main pour s’orienter vers un duel pour la victoire qui s’est conclu dans la toute dernière chicane.

Après avoir tenté un impressionnant dépassement par l’extérieur dans la dernière chicane du circuit néerlandais à deux tours de l’arrivée, le Français a immédiatement été repris par le Turc au bout la ligne droite et a ensuite attendu le dernier tour pour tenter à nouveau de s’emparer de la première place. 

Cluzel a attendu la dernière chicane de la course pour placer sa dernière attaque, choisissant cette fois-ci l’intérieur, mais a été percuté par Sofuoglu à la sortie et a dû faire une courte sortie de piste pour éviter la chute tandis que le Turc remportait une deuxième victoire consécutive pour conforter sa première place dans le classement général.

Vainqueur à Phillip Island puis victime de deux problèmes techniques en Thaïlande puis en Aragón, Cluzel retrouvait le podium mais était très mécontent de la manoeuvre de son adversaire, qu’il estimait trop dangereuse. Le Français est revenu en piste juste à temps pour finir deuxième devant Smith, qui avait mené durant les deux premiers tours et finissait troisième pour la deuxième fois de suite.

PJ Jacobsen (Kawasaki Intermoto Ponyexpres) a pris la quatrième place devant Roberto Rolfo (Team Lorini), Lorenzo Zanetti (MV Agusta Reparto Corse) et Lucas Mahias (Kawasaki Intermoto Ponyexpres), septième à 18s du vainqueur.

WSS race run at lap record pace as title fight intensifies.

A last corner decider went in the favour of Kenan Sofuoglu (Kasawaki Puccetti Racing) as the Turkish rider claimed back to back wins in the World Supersport championship to extend his lead in this year’s series.

After the disappointment of Thailand and Aragon, Jules Cluzel (MV Agusta Reparto Corse) returned to the podium in 2^nd after narrowly missing out on the victory as both he and Sofuoglu collided coming through the final chicane. Cluzel had the consolation of a new lap record as he secured 20 points to keep alive his championship chances.

The final podium place was decided after another dual, this time between Kyle Smith (Pata Honda World Supersport Team) and PJ Jacobsen (Kawasaki Intermoto Ponyexpres). Smith, who led the opening two laps after making a great start, eventually finishing 3^rdto claim his 3^rd podium finish of the year ahead of the American who once again showed that he is in contention for the championship.

Roberto Rolfo (Team Lorini) in his 21^st year of racing achieved 5^th, coming home ahead of Lorenzo Zanetti (MV Agusta Reparto Corse) who was 6^th.

Lucas Mahias (Kawasaki Intermoto Ponyexpres) had a lonely race to 7^th at the flag with Marco Faccani (San Carlo Puccetti Racing), Alex Baldolini (Race Department ATK#25) and Riccardo Russo (CIA Landlords Insurance Honda) completing the top ten at the end of an exciting lap race.
