Hennessey Venom GT hits 265.7 mph, becomes faster than the Veyron Super Sport

    Will the record stand?

John Hennessey has always wanted to steal the fastest production vehicle title from the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport and it appears his Venom GT might have accomplished that task.
During a run on February 9th, Brian Smith managed to hit 265.7 mph (427.6 km/h) while driving on the runway at the Lemoore Naval Air Station in California. This is where things fall into a grey area as the Veyron Super Sport officially hit 431.072 km/h (268 mph), but the standard model is electronically-limited to 415 km/h (258 mph). As a result, Hennessey claims the Venom GT is the fastest production model customers can actually buy.

The reasoning is somewhat questionable but the video hints that another attempt is in the works as it says "We are going to need a longer runway or road to attempt to find out its top speed. Stay tuned..."
As we have previously reported, the Venom GT has a twin-turbo 7.0-liter V8 engine that develops 1244 bhp (928 kW) and 1155 lb-ft (1564 Nm) of torque. It enables the model to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 2.7 seconds and hit an estimated top speed of 278 mph (447 km/h).
