    AN-BU YAMAHA XS650

Where to next for the custom motorcycle scene? Over the past ten years, raked-out choppers have faded away and ‘Brat Style’ bikes have dominated. The genre is named after the Tokyo-based workshop run by ‘Go’ Takamine, one of a handful of Japanese builders who took cheap commuter bikes and stripped them back to the basics, fitting slimmer seats and removing fenders in the process.
Call it neo-retro or new wave, it’s a look that we’re all familiar with these days. So what’s next? The increasing popularity of the tracker style is one pointer, but another comes from shops like An-Bu.

An-Bu has a stellar reputation in Japan, and its bikes are different to those we usually see in the west. The company has a strong house style; It’s based around asymmetrical fairings and a vibe that is part Mad Max, part Tokyo street culture. This XS650, built for the last Yokohama custom show, is a particularly eye-catching example.

The bike is running a no-frills S&S Super B carburetor (more commonly found on Harley Sportsters), raised compression and an overbore for extra capacity. The exhaust system, spectacularly kicked up at the back, is fully custom. The engine has been tuned for torque.

The sleek black fairing—an echo of racing motorcycles from the 1960s—is matched to a race-style seat unit, brutally truncated and sitting much further forward than you would expect. For the tank paint, An-Bu has selected a military theme. The camouflage-style paintjob is reminiscent of tiger stripes, hence the name of the bike, ‘Skull Tiger.’

An-Bu’s style is certainly arresting, and there’s a solid performance boost to match. A good direction for future custom builders, would you say?

    Hakes Marine HH42 Prototype

This is Hakes Marine’s new HH42 grand prix racing yacht prototype. The China-based company is so pleased with its vessel, 100 are going to be built, and sold at around 385,000 euros each.

The fully carbonfibre-constructed HH42 has been designed to win races, and should offer outstanding performance both during competition and on more sedate voyages. Stand-out features include a thermoformed foam core, a single-piece keel and a unique hull shape, sheerline and deck gear layout.

Judel/vrolijk & co was entrusted with designing the yacht after being responsible for the 'Alinghi 5' - the boat that won the 2010 America’s Cup.

Construction began on the first HH42 in September 2012 and a boat has now been launched in Chinese waters. Meanwhile, production on the second yacht - destined for Europe - is well underway.

M1NSK MMVZ Custom by Yuri Shif Custom

The Fastest M1NSK is the ultimate transformation of a small single cylinder 125cc MMVZ, crafted by Yuri Shif Custom from the Republic of Belarus.
Located in Minsk Russia, M1NSK Motorcycle is a Russian motorcycle manufacturer also known as M1NSK-Moto. The plant was founded in 1945 and initially made bicycles with the first motorcycle production at the plant in 1951. The M1NSK plant survived the crash of the Soviet Union and has continued motorcycle production for more than 60 years now.
Yuri Shif  was commissioned to build this motorcycle for a private Belarus client. The base for the build was a 1988 M1NSK MMVZ 3.227, which has been modified beyond my comprehension.
The M1NSK MMVZ 3.227 powerplant has gone through a major overhauling and has been tuned for superior performance. The modified engine has been fitted with a Mikuni TM38 carb and a hand fabricated exhaust.
The frame was taken from a M1NSK R250 and was heavily modified to adapt the café racer style. The front fork and the brakes were also taken from a M1NSK R250, while the wheels came from aMegelli Motard  and were wrapped in 110/80-17 tires.
At the front the Fastest M1NSK MMVZ features Yuri Shif clip-ons and a stock headlight. The footrest was lowered on frame mounts and an improved rear shock was placed for better performance.
The fabrication work includes a hand-fabricated fuel tank, a small fairing with windscreen, front fender and rear tail unit.
The Fastest M1NSK MMVZ is a fusion of the past and present, packed with sturdy aesthetic elements making this Café Racer an absolute pleasure to ride and observe. This bike is like a MIG fighter jet ready to blast off on the road circuit race!
