MotoGP ; Pedrosa démontre son affinité avec la piste de Sepang / Sepang specialist Pedrosa leads on day one in Malaysia

Vainqueur en Malaisie ces deux dernières années, le pilote du team Repsol Honda a été le plus rapide vendredi lors des premiers essais libres du week-end.
Après un décevant abandon à Phillip Island, Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda) est prêt à se relancer ce week-end à Sepang et s’est offert le meilleur temps de la première journée du Grand Prix Shell Advance de Malaisie, en devançant Aleix Espargaró (NGM Forward) lors de la première séance, sur piste sèche.
Passé sur pneus pluie cet après-midi, Pedrosa s’est classé troisième de la seconde séance, à 1.079s de Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP), avec un pneu arrière qui ne répondait pas forcément à ses attentes.
Le pilote du team Repsol Honda a commenté : « Nous avons pu rouler sur le sec ce matin et faire de bons chronos mais la pluie est ensuite arrivée cet après-midi. Nous verrons quel temps il fera demain mais nous espérons que ce soit sec afin d’analyser les performances des pneus avant et arrière. Nous n’avons utilisé que la gomme tendre ce matin et nous aimerions essayer la dure. »
« J’ai eu problème avec le pneu pluie arrière, qui n’avait presque plus de gomme au bout de 14 tours alors que je n’avais pas eu de grip au début. Nous espérons continuer à travailler sur le set-up demain et pouvoir rouler avec un pneu qui fonctionne correctement. »

Repsol Honda’s Dani Pedrosa topped Friday practice at the Shell Advance Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix.
Pedrosa recovered from a difficult weekend at Phillip Island immediately in FP1, able to set competitive times from the off. A time of 2’01.379s from the Spanish rider had him top the session ahead of Alexi Espargaro (NGM Forward Racing).
This time was within the race lap record from last year. Pedrosa has an excellent record at the Sepang circuit, having won there in 2013 and 2012, along with four other podium visits in the MotoGP™ class.
FP2 was affected by rain, causing riders to be cautious in the opening stages. Pedrosa finished the session in third, 1.079s off Jorge Lorenzo’s (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) best time.
“We were able to ride in the dry this morning and set some good times, but in the afternoon the rain arrived. We shall see what the weather is like tomorrow, and hope to get more dry track time to finish analysing the performance of the front and rear tyres. We only used the soft compound this morning and we would like to try the harder compound,” explained Pedrosa.
He continued, “I had a problem with the wet rear, which had hardly any tyre wear after 14 laps, but no grip from the beginning. We hope to continue developing the setup of the bike tomorrow and be able to ride with a tyre that works well.”
