Red Bull Romaniacs.Walker ne lâche rien
Jonny Walker a remporté une nouvelle victoire lors de la 3e journée du Red Bull : Romaniacs.

Alors que le champion en titre Graham Jarvis débutait la 3e journée en tête après avoir empoché la victoire la veille, il lui fallait composer avec la pression de Jonny Walker – son grand rival pour le titre final, et vainqueur du Red Bull Hare Scramble le mois dernier.
Revenir sur les pas de Jarvis était la seule obsession de Walker et, à mi-parcours, il avait déjà effacé ses cinq minutes de retard.
Alors que les conditions devenaient de plus en plus difficiles lors des épreuves de l’après-midi, aucun des deux pilotes ne fut capable de faire le trou. Lors d’un finish spectaculaire sur le toit d’une usine de charbon abandonnée, Jarvis franchit la ligne en premier, mais c'est bien Walker qui s’adjuge la victoire en temps ajusté. Alors qu’un rien les sépare au classement général, le dernier jour de course s’annonce palpitant.
La troisième place est revenue à Wade Young pour la deuxième fois d’affilée. Il semblerait que l’adolescent sud-africain soit bien affirmé, et il est maintenant en position de décrocher un podium à Romaniacs.
Débutant la journée à la cinquième position, Paul Bolton s’est fendu d’un joli ride pour glaner la quatrième place d'Andreas Lettenbichler, qui termine donc 5e.
Répare moi vite – J’ai une course demain
On ne ressort pas indemne du Red Bull Romaniacs. Ce n’est pas juste dur pour les motos, ça l’est aussi pour le corps et l’esprit. D’interminables kilomètres sur les terrains les plus compliqués de Roumanie rend la vie dure aux motards. Pour s’assurer que les compétiteurs restent dans la meilleure forme possible, la physiothérapeute réputée Annett Fischer est mobilisée pendant toute la course afin de soulager les douleurs.
Physio personnel de Stéphane Peterhansel sur le Dakar, Fischer s’y connaît en réparation de corps meurtris.
« C’est ma quatrième année sur le Red Bull Romaniacs », explique-t-elle. « J’ai vu toutes sortes de blessures sur cette course – des douleurs musculaires ou aux articulations, jusqu’aux blessures aux genoux et aux corps abimés. »
« Cette année, j’ai beaucoup travaillé avec Andreas Lettenbichler. Il est arrivé avec une blessure au cou avant même le début de la course. Les soins peuvent aider les motards à terminer les courses, mais au final c’est vraiment leur force mentale qui les aide à continuer. Ils sont tellement déterminés à terminer – c’est incroyable ».
Que nous réserve demain ?
La fin de ce Red Bull Romaniacs a beau approcher, il reste encore quelques 180 kilomètres à parcourir lors du dernier jour. Avec cette lutte pour la victoire tellement serrée, le finish s’apparentera à une bataille sans merci. Chaque erreur peut être fatale. La fameuse montée de la coline Gusterita sera également au programme de l’après-midi. Parvenez à conquérir cette pente quasi-verticale et vous serez venu à bout de la 11e édition du Red Bull Romaniacs.

« J’ai perdu ma jambe droite dans un accident lorsque j’avais 13 ans. Le sport m’a aidé à prendre en main mon destin. J’ai commencé le ski à l’âge de 15 ans, et cinq ans plus tard je suis devenu double champion du monde de ski pour handicapés et vice champion paralympique. Mon destin tragique s’est révélé être une énorme motivation pour atteindre mes objectifs.
« Après avoir concouru lors du championnat du monde Superbike à la fin des années 1990, j’ai commencé l’Enduro il y a cinq ans. Pour pouvoir participer au Red Bull Romaniacs Iron Class, je travaillais ma force et mon endurance jusqu’à cinq fois par semaine. J’ai toujours été fasciné par cette course, et maintenant je veux voir si je peux la dompter. »
« Lors de la deuxième journée, j’ai heurté une pierre avec ma botte. Après l’impact, ma prothèse a tourné de 90 degrés. Nous avons du appeler mon orthopédiste pour savoir comment mon membre artificiel pouvait être réajusté correctement. »
MOTo GP : Dovizioso prolonge chez Ducati pour deux ans / Crutchlow confirmé chez Ducati pour 2015
A l’occasion de la World Ducati Week 2014 qui se tient cette semaine à Misano, Claudio Domenicali, le CEO de Ducati Motor Holding, et Andrea Dovizioso ont officiellement annoncé que le pilote italien continuerait à courir pour le constructeur de Borgo Panigale en 2015 et 2016.
Andrea Dovizioso et Ducati ont officiellement annoncé un nouvel accord pour deux ans à l’occasion de la seconde journée de la huitième World Ducati Week, organisée au Misano World Circuit “Marco Simoncelli”.
En conférence de presse, Claudio Domenicali, le CEO de Ducati Motor Holding, a invité Andrea Dovizioso à le rejoindre sur scène pour annoncer que l’Italien continuerait à défendre les couleurs de la marque de Borgo Panigale pour les deux prochaines années.
Domenicali a déclaré : « Andrea a déjà passé deux ans chez nous, il croit en notre projet et après une saison difficile en 2013, il nous a offert deux podiums cette année. C’est notre meilleur pilote et c’est pour moi un honneur d’annoncer qu’il a décidé de continuer avec nous pour deux ans de plus. »
Dovizioso a ajouté : « Nous sommes parvenus à un accord parce que c’est un projet intéressant qui commence à porter ses fruits depuis l’arrivée de Dall’Igna. Nous avons obtenu deux podiums et nous sommes quatrièmes du championnat. La situation actuelle est très motivante, surtout en prenant en compte notre projet pour 2015. »
Cal Crutchlow a confirmé qu’il continuerait à courir pour Ducati aux côtés d’Andrea Dovizioso en 2015.
Présent en conférence de presse aux côtés de Paolo Ciabatti (Directeur du projet MotoGP) et de Luigi Dall'Igna (Directeur général de Ducati Corse) samedi à Misano pour la World Ducati Week, Cal Crutchlow a mis fin aux rumeurs qui évoquaient son départ et a confirmé qu’il disputerait une seconde saison avec Ducati en 2015.
« Andrea (Dovizioso) fait une excellente saison mais nous devons continuer à travailler dur sur la seconde partie de l'année, » a affirmé Crutchlow, qui avait été opéré des avant-bras pour soigner un double syndrome des loges en début de semaine. « Je sais que tout le monde travaille très dur à l’usine en Italie. Nous espérons nous rapprocher des leaders. Marc (Márquez) est sur une autre planète mais Andrea (Iannone) l’a déjà battu par le passé. »
Dall’Igna a ajouté : « Nous avons progressé mais pas suffisamment et nous devrons travailler encore plus dur sur la seconde partie de la saison. Nous aurons bientôt un nouveau carénage et nous aurons le nouveau châssis à Aragón. Notre objectif, qui sera difficile à atteindre avant la fin de l’année mais pas impossible, est de réduire l’écart à 10 secondes. »
Ciabatti a de son côté déclaré : « Dovizioso a renouvelé son contrat ce matin, Cal a un contrat avec nous pour la saison prochaine et il continuera dans le team ‘officiel’ l’an prochain. Iannone a fait mieux que ce que nous espérions de lui et nous souhaitons qu’il reste chez nous. Nous voulons lui offrir un meilleur soutien technique et nous devrions pouvoir finaliser les détails, la façon dont nous le ferons, son contrat et le contenu du package technique, la semaine prochaine. »
Iannone a commenté : « Les résultats que nous avons eus sur la première partie de l’année nous motivent à travailler dur. Je suis un pilote Ducati et bien que je sois assez jeune, je souhaiterais rester avec eux pour toute ma carrière en MotoGP™. »
Breslau Poland will continue...
LIVETICKER EN: THE LAST day! Good Morning from Drawsko Pomorskie to the last stage of the Breslau Poland 2014. In commemoration of the Breslau founder Klaus Leihener, who died last year in a car-accident, the stage was named "Spirit of Klaus Leihener".
"This will be a special Trophy," organizer Alexander Kovatchev said during the briefing. "The winner in the extreme class will get a special prize. We want to install this as a new tradition - like a curve in the Formula 1 is named after Ayrton Senna, from now on the last stage of every Breslau Poland will be named after Klaus Leihener. For this also Klaus´ son is with the rally today.
Today´s stage is about 107 kilometers timed section and 15 kms liaison. The start will be also the finish, the participants will pass that point four times - so very good for the spectators to see the race live... The first bike will start at 10:45.
LIVETICKER EN: NEARLY ALL competitors are in the stage, also the trucks. The field is led by Beat Juen from Austria (KTM), in the cars we actually can see a nice fight between the Opel Antara of Petar Cenkov (BG) and Wojciech Tolak in the Mercedes G500 (PL)...
The vice-winner of the "Africa Eco Race" 2013, Guilleaume Martens from Holland, totally lost the right track and is in the middle of a round course inside a wide open Polygon...
Funny thing: The tracker is working - even if you are leaving... Some competitors who left the rally forgot the bring back the tracker to the race-office... So you can follow them on their way home...
TON UP GARAGE R45 PURE
They all make it look so easy. The volume of brilliantly executed custom bikes flooding our computer screens from both pro and amateur builders alike belie a key fact. Building a beautiful custom bike is not as simple as we hope. A quick trawl through the graveyard of ebay yields any number of machines filed under “Cafe Racer”, “Scrambler” or “Custom” that just do not work. The best intentions, a smattering of new parts, some creative fabrication and a wealth of inspiration have culminated in an unfortunately failed attempt. As the donor market becomes ever more ploughed for suitable base models these halfway attempts are slipping into the potential project category. This is one such lucky machine that has been saved from its previously butchered custom state and reinvented to realise the ambitions that stirred its initial transformation.
This little R45 landed on its feet. It found itself seeking redemption within the walls of Ton Up Garage in Portugal where Daniel and Pedro have established themselves in the upper echelons of the pro build league. On the Ton Up Garage Bikeshed page you will find a trio of their splendid custom Bonneville’s and a stunning Kawasaki Zephyr build, but this is the first Ton Up Boxer to make it’s way into the Shed. You can see the Ton Up DNA running through the bike.
The name of this bike epitomises the mission statement of the build. Pure. “This bike reflects at best the essentials of a motorcycle” – “We made it without having a costumer for it, so all decisions of what to do with it were completely ours with no foreign input”. As you can see, the boys need no advice on how to put together a super clean motorcycle.
With a small 474cc engine and 35hp the R45 is a natural city dweller, preferring the commute to long legged touring. Daniel and Pedro prepared the bike with off road tyres to tackle the crumbly city streets of the old town, to match the tyres and absorb the potholes the shocks were upgraded and the forks overhauled. They report she is very well balanced and tackles the worst of the city streets with ease.
The old school off road theme continues with the spoked wheels and a custom fabricated stone guard over the headlight. Chrome mudguards were cut and fitted, the rear nestling tightly in the adapted rear subframe. High braced MX bars with a small cream faced speedometer complete the running gear.
As with all Ton Up builds the colour scheme has been thoroughly thought out and beautifully executed. “We decided to paint the bike in white purity and earth brown.” For me, I can’t look at the thing without craving a beautiful cup of coffee.
The brown finds its way onto the cylinder heads, grips, stone guard, the beautiful branded seat and the exhaust wrap. The white curiously surfaces on the exhaust cans and again on the headlight shell tying in with the front section of the tank.
The overall palette is beautiful and cohesive, the yellow tinted light and original fork reflectors adding some contrast.
Ton Up report that this little beauty is for sale thought their web page. If you don’t trust yourself with the spanners why not save some poor bike the distress of a failed makeover and get yourself this twice rejuvenated R45.

The Exec 550 by Kott Motorcycles is the Classic Driver's café racer
Café racers are enjoying something of a renaissance, with many companies reviving antiquated vintage bikes, blending modern levels of performance with incredible bespoke craftsmanship. California-based Kott Motorcycles is one such example, and this is its latest creation, the Exec 550…
Based on a 1974 Honda CB550 (the company favours Seventies Hondas), the Exec 550 has been stripped of any superfluous or extravagant features, boasting a simple-yet-functional design that is, for want of a better phrase, plain cool.
Almost all aspects of the original bike have been redefined with performance firmly in mind. Modifications include an adapted frame to accommodate the Honda 750SS’s slightly larger fuel tank, a stainless-steel four-into-one header and the addition of a second drilled brake disc up-front.
Simple, functional
There are cosmetic features, too (though only where absolutely necessary), such as the tasteful brass highlights, a Sixties-era pressed-steel Honda headlight, and a chic, hand-built leather seat that neatly doubles as a tailpiece to house the LED taillight and battery.
Peer a little closer at the extremely well-packaged internals, and the four stainless velocity stacks are just visible, peeping out of the back of the 544cc Honda engine, guarded sensibly by a custom removable splash-guard for when the going gets wet.
The Kott Motorcycles Exec 550 took best custom motorcycle at the annual Friends of Steve McQueen show. And if they think it’s fit for McQueen, we think it’s fit for every Classic Driver.

Breslau Poland: Rally on standby by Military because of actual political situation.

Because of the eventual shoutdown of an Malaysian Airplane over the East-Ukraine, the NATO-military in the Polish Drawsko Pomorkie region is in "CODE RED" actually.
The Military Police of Poland was visiting the camp and organization of the Rally Breslau today morning and submitted the newest facts. Actually the rally is not allowed to start because the Military-area (in which the rally takes place) is closed for civilians. Inside the area even all mobile-phones and also radio-transmission are blocked.
As the Military Police reported, at 11:00 CET the Polish Military officials will have an meeting in Warszaw about the actual situation - and to stop "CODE RED" in the Military area. This means: The Rally is not cancelled - the organization is waiting for a "GO" or "NO GO".
In a special briefing at 09:00 CET race-director Alexander Kovatchev was speaking to the competitors - everybody accepted the situation. "We are on stand-by," Kovatchev said. "This situation is not under our control, but the officials are with us. Please try to enjoy the day - and keep also on stand by. We are ready to go and just waiting for the "good" call!"
