WSSP , Argentine ;Mahias arrache la pole dans les dernières secondes ! / Mahias snatches pole in dying seconds at San Juan circuit

Les pilotes GRT signent un doublé lors des qualifications argentines et Cortese complète la première ligne.

Lucas Mahias (GRT Yamaha Official WorldSSP Team) a signé en Argentine sa cinquième pole position de la saison dans le Championnat FIM World Supersport, ce qui fait de lui le vainqueur du Tissot Superpole Award 2018. Le Français a tiré son épingle du jeu dans une formidable bagarre l'opposant à son coéquipier, Federico Caricasulo (GRT Yamaha Official WorldSSP Team), dans les derniers instants de la Superpole du Motul Argentinian Round.

Mahias a pris les commandes du classement au début de la Superpole 2 qui se tenait sur le Circuito San Juan Villicum. Il a par la suite défendu par deux fois sa première place face au leader du championnat, Sandro Cortese (Kallio Racing). Une fois le drapeau à damier exposé, Caricasulo semblait avoir réussi à arracher la pole in extremis, grâce à un temps de 1’43.328, mais le Champion du Monde 201 était bien décidé à ne pas en rester là et, en un instant, il était de retour au sommet avec une avance de 0.302s.

Mahias, Caricasulo et Cortese forment donc la première ligne en Argentine, tandis que Jules Cluzel (NRT) s'élancera de la quatrième place. Le Français est suivi par son coéquipier, Thomas Gradinger (NRT), qui obtient avec cette cinquième place ce qui est de loin sa meilleure qualification au cours de sa saison de rookie. Randy Krummenacher (BARDAHL Evan Bros WorldSSP Team) complète la deuxième ligne, devant Corentin Perolari (GMT94 Yamaha) qui permet à Yamaha de verrouiller les sept premières places du classement.

Kyle Smith (CIA Landlord Insurace Honda) a obtenu le huitième temps des qualifications, devant Hans Soomer (Racedays) et Loris Cresson (Kallio Racing), tous deux passés par la Superpole 1 et récompensés également par les meilleures places qu'ils ont occupées sur la grille cette année. Après une chute, Raffaele De Rosa (MV Agusta Reparto Corse by Vamag) s'élancera de la 11eplace, devant Luke Stapleford (Profile Racing).

Lucas Mahias (GRT Yamaha Official WorldSSP Team) claimed his fifth pole position of the FIM Supersport World Championship season and with it the 2018 Tissot Superpole Award, after a fantastic battle with teammate Federico Caricasulo (GRT Yamaha Official WorldSSP Team) in the closing stages of Superpole at the Motul Argentinian Round.

The French rider led from the early stages of the Superpole 2 session at the Circuito San Juan Villicum and successfully defended his lead twice from championship leader Sandro Cortese (Kallio Racing). With the checkered flag down, it seemed for a moment that Caricasulo might have stolen it at the death with a then-best lap of 1’43.328. But the 2017 World Champion had other plans, moving back into first by 0.302 seconds in the blink of an eye.

Mahias, Caricasulo and Cortese thus complete the front row in Argentina, with Jules Cluzel (NRT) making his way into fourth position and the front of row two. He was followed in qualifying by his own teammate Thomas Gradinger (NRT) in fifth, comfortably his best qualifying performance of his rookie season. Randy Krummenacher (BARDAHL Evan Bros WorldSSP Team) completes the second row in sixth, with Corentin Perolari (GMT94 Yamaha) making it a Yamaha lockout for the top seven.

Eighth best in qualifying was Kyle Smith (CIA Landlord Insurace Honda), with Hans Soomer (Racedays) and Loris Cresson (Kallio Racing), both through from Superpole 1, also netting their best grid positions of the year in ninth and tenth, respectively. A crash for Raffaele De Rosa (MV Agusta Reparto Corse by Vamag) means that the Italian starts back in eleventh, with Luke Stapleford (Profile Racing) down in twelfth.
